As we walk in silence, I keep glancing over my shoulder, afraid that another beast might appear at any second. Every rustle of the leaves, every snap of a twig sends a rush of fear through me. My mind replays what just happened with the beast, over and over again, unable to process the reality of it. I can't get the look out of my head. "I know this is a lot to take in," Edward says quietly, breaking the silence. "I didn't want you to find out like this." "How did you expect me to find out?" I snap, unable to contain my anger. "Over dinner? 'Oh, by the way, I'm a werewolf'?" He sighs, his shoulders slumping. "I was trying to find the right time. The right way. I never wanted to hurt you." "Well, you did," I say flatly. "You lied to me. You made me think you were someone you're not."
