I realized as I settled into the new town that I had used almost all of the money that had been given to me to start my new life. Getting the new identities, the passport, and traveling here had taken a lot of money. Now, as I checked into a motel and looked for an affordable apartment, I realized I needed to find a job quickly to stay afloat.
My plan was to lay low, get to know a few important people, and live under the radar to avoid drawing any suspicions about me or my past. I had created a story about why I was here, and, following the advice given to me by the person who helped me with my identity, I knew I had to change locations every few years to avoid being tracked down. But I wasn't sure if I wanted to do that.
