“You’re... Reina, right?” she responds with a smirk.
“It’s Ruby,” I correct her, knowing she did that intentionally.
“Yes, Ruby. Hello. So, we meet again.”
“Yes, and you’re still knocking on Edward’s door again,” I tell her, looking at her straight in the eyes, but she brushes it off.
“This is Emmanuel,” she says, introducing the man beside her. I look at Emmanuel, and before she says it, I can already see the resemblance. He is Edward’s brother.
“My brother-in-law,” she adds.
“Oh,” I reply, taken aback. “I’m surprised. Really?”
“Yes,” she confirms.
There’s an awkward silence as we all stand there, sizing each other up. Elena’s smug demeanour is infuriating, and Emmanuel’s presence adds another layer to the growing mystery surrounding Edward’s family.
