Chapter 12: Dogs and Dreams

"YO" the door slammed loudly as Torri burst her way into our room. "That s**t did NOT just happen aha!" The glee in her face brought out a smile of my own, despite the last 15 minutes of angry tears. "How f****d am I?" I whispered bashfully. "Oh, you're absolutely f****d. In fact I'm f****d by just talking to you. Not as f****d as poor Blake who got in her way from killing you though…" she trailed off thoughtfully. "That was a lot of f***s in one sentence" I stated, mentally tucking away that I'd have to thank Blake next time I see him. Her responding grin made me throw a pillow over my face and groan loudly. I nervously laughed and sat up. "Honestly I don't even know what came over me, I was just so angry…" I mused. "Freshly transitioned vampire, it's normal honestly. Though most of us have our hissy fits behind closed doors…I like your style though. Twyla…probably not so much" she said pointedly. "What happens now?" I asked. "What do you mean? Like..school wise? Nothing. It's pretty well fair game out there unless a professor catches some drama firsthand." She shrugged before adding, "all I'd say Is Twyla isn't known to fight fair so honestly, watch your back Avs…" I rolled my eyes, and huffed with mental exhaustion. "...so…what did Lex say?" She asked curiously. "Lex?..I never spoke to him, I didn't even see him..Jet pulled me outside and yelled at me though…" I trailed off frowning. "He yelled at you…?" She seethed, distracted for a moment. "Ugh nevermind about Jet. You didn't see Lex at all?" She c****d her head in question. I shook mine no. "Hmm..." She trailed off. "Why do I get the feeling you aren't telling me something?" I asked accusingly. She sat up straighter. "It's nothing…it's just he cussed out Twyla, and then ran out after you. He's not exactly the social justice type so I was curious. You didn't see him at all? He came out the door seconds after you…" she scowled in confusion. I shook my head again, but didn't put too much more thought into it. I was wiped from the last few days and desperately needed sleep. I fluffed the pillow behind my head, and sank back letting out a silent sigh. The sound of a zipper pulled my attention back up, and I watched as Torri zipped up her other heeled boot. She met my eye as I gave her a questioning brow. A salacious grin tugged at the edge of her mouth in response, and she lifted her leather jacket onto her curved frame. "Going somewhere?" I probed. "Nothing you need to worry about, just don't expect me back until tomorrow!" She sang with a flip of her wild hair. "What about Blake?" I pressed her a little less than subtle. She stalled in the doorway a moment, her eyes meeting mine with an expressionless nonchalance. "What about him?" She panned like the insinuation I was making wasn't exactly evident. "Come on, it's obvious you like him," I grinned, propping myself up on an elbow, "unless.." I gasped dramatically, "that's who you're off to tangle with?" I wagged my brows conspiratorially, and she threw her head back with a snort. "Hell no, like I told you, Blake's just a friend. I don't like him like that. Besides I doubt he would be able to keep up with my vampire speed where it counts anyway. Laters!" She threw out while sashaying off. The door sank closed with a self locking click, and I layed back once again. I stared at the moon through the window where it stared back at me, a stream of soft light poured into the room illuminating the foot of my bed. As much as I loved Torri's company it was kind of nice to have the quietness around me to think. I hadn't had much time for that since I'd arrived. A nervous flip tumbled my stomach as I thought back to Twyla and me in the cafeteria, I'm sure I'd be dealing with the repercussions of that soon enough. She didn't strike me as the type to let bygones be bygones, especially when they occurred so publicly. I pushed her out of my mind, and forced it to settle on a different memory instead. I closed my eyes and released a long breath, envisioning the way Jets full lips had wrapped around his rough thumb, his tongue slinking out to lick my tear off it, and my stomach flipped again for a whole new reason. I was still pissed at him for chewing me out the way he had, but in the dim quiet of the room I could forget about that for a few minutes. A faint shadow in my periphery made my eyes draw to the left corner of the room just past the window, and my heart stuttered as I watched in silence for a solid beat. The corner was empty, as was the rest of the room, and I chastised myself with a smirk for being so jumpy. I let my mind wander back to the obsidian haired guy with piercing eyes, and broad shoulders, as I trailed my hand down the centre of my abdomen, sinking further down between my thighs to meet the heat between them. I inhaled a soft gasp, and let my head fall back between the pillows, my chest arching slightly at the movement of my hand. I imagined the way he had boxed me against the doors earlier, two shredded arms of solid muscle trapping me within the frame of his body, and I swear I could smell the scent of him enveloping me. Mahogany, and musk, primal and intoxicating. With every move of my hand I imagined it was his, and I sank deeper into my euphoria. The image was suddenly distorted without my command. Instead of icy white irises, dark eyes burned heat through my very core, and the vision of Lex's chiselled body sinking down between my legs filled every corner of my being. His large hand slid firmly yet slowly from the curve under my ass, up the contours of my body, before wrapping itself solidly around my throat in an unspoken domination. It was possessive, without being painful, though the pressure in his grasp felt so real. I instinctively slid a finger inside myself, my jaw opening in a silent plea at the ecstasy of the vision. "That's it, spread wider for me" his voice rasped the command inside my mind, yet sounded like it was next to my ear in the same instant. I did as dream Lex ordered, letting my knees drop to either side of the bed, leaving me open and vulnerable to the fantasy. His body was covered in a light sheen of sweat, and his bleach hair fell in a sexy disarray over his forehead. I watched in heated awe as his hand left my throat to unzip his pants, and I missed the feeling of his control in that brief moment. I stared with hooded eyes as he reached in, and pulled out his thick c**k, his hand gliding slowly up and down it as his eyes continued to pin me to the mattress. His chest hovered above me as he angled his hips forward, my eyes lingering on the hard plane of a V shaped muscle that made my fingers twitch with the need to trace it. I was ripped from the fantasy before he could enter me, a loud crash sounded beyond the foot of the bed, and I shot up in alarm wide eyed and panting. Did Torri come back after all? Embarrassment flooded me. I swung my legs over the side of the bed and stood, abruptly adjusting myself and covering my chest with folded arms as I called out, "Tor?" I waited two beats, but nobody answered. I strode over to check the door, it was still locked, and I could see with a slow gaze around the room that nobody was in here but me. My heart began to slow until I caught sight of a stack of books scattered along the floor, a glass ornament of a giraffe I'd had next to them on the desk was shattered alongside them at the foot of the bed. There's no way those would have fallen on their own unless someone knocked into them. My heart was in my throat as I double checked the room once more, peering in the shower, the closet, and under the bed before I could accept I was truly alone. Sinking back on the edge of the bed I got my breathing back under control. I pulled the blanket back into place, and rested my hands over one another on my stomach, the moment lost. Despite the fact staring me in the face that nobody was here but me, I had a cold pit in my chest trying to convince me that someone had indeed been watching me. . . . I don't know how long I stayed staring at the door waiting for Torri to get back, but somewhere along the way I clearly fell asleep. The door hit the wall with a loud smack, and I squinted against the light streaming in through the window, as I sat up rubbing my eyes groggily. "Hey, you alright?", I asked, my voice thick with sleep as I took in the hard set to her features. She huffed, tossing her bag aside, and strode over to flop down on my bed without taking her boots off. I cringed at the dirt scuffing my comforter but kept my mouth shut about it. "Turns out Calvin has a f*****g girlfriend at Astrum Academy he didn't think to mention prior to our last three weeks of hooking up." She shook her head as her disgust and anger rolled off her in waves. "Calvin?" I questioned. Guess this was the mystery guy she'd been running off to… "Yeah", Tor sighed, staring at the far wall with a pinched mouth, "he's a senior here. Wolf shifter, and a goddamn mutt if I ever saw one. You know he told me he loved me? Yeah. He got up right after to go to the bathroom, and I saw a message pop up on his phone from her asking about going home with him for Christmas break!" She spat with a quivering lip, and threw one of my down pillows across the room. I watched as my pillow hit the wall and pursed my mouth, not really sure what to say. I didn't have much, well any, experience with guys really, and her face was saying to tread lightly. I opted for the usual response I'd seen in movies. "What an asshole!" I declared in solidarity. She glanced at me and chuckled, "yeah a real grade A s**t eater. I should've expected as much from a dog." She said the word like it was a curse. "Probably can't help himself when there's so much ass out there to sniff…" I added. Torri burst out laughing, and wiped a hand under her eye to dry it. "True, guess I should've seen that one coming" she said with a small shrug, "maybe I'll go after a lion shifter next time instead, I always was more of a cat person anyway." I smirked. "So…do you love him or?" She snorted at that, "Not even a little. I'm just angry he made me look like an i***t. Probably ran around laughing with his pack mates about it." Her face fell back into a mask of steel. "So how was your night, get much rest?" She changed the topic. My chest constricted as I thought back to last night. I briefly considered telling her someone had been in our room, but to be honest I hadn't actually seen anyone, and I didn't need the only friend I had at this place to start thinking I was crazy so I just shrugged a shoulder, "yep, feeling much better today", I smiled. "Great, because it's Saturday and I want to get the hell out of here, and go do something fun. Oh! Wanna get dolled up with me? I want to March past Calvin and his dumbass friends, and show him what he lost!" She sat up with determination. Truthfully, I wanted to get out of my rut and be a bit adventurous too, but dressing up to waltz around campus seemed a bit ninth grade to me. Suddenly an idea struck me, and I gave her a slow lion's grin. Her eyes lit up, and she mirrored my excitement. "Uh oh, that face screams trouble and I like it…" I hopped up, and strode towards the shower to get ready for the day, "oh believe me, I think you definitely will '', I tossed back at her.
