Rachel trembled in the aftermath of her release, her arms locked tight around Jonah. He’d left her wrecked and raw and emotional, and she couldn’t let him go. Not yet. Maybe not ever. Because she wasn’t absolutely certain he’d come back. He’d said he loved her. But the admission had been grudging, and she knew better than to believe that was enough to overcome his misplaced sense of responsibility.
