CHAPTER 4: I need a bride

I never really liked working with women as they always tended to overstep their boundaries, but as I listened to Miss Anniston speak I could tell she was different and that she was passionate about her work.

I was in the middle of speaking with her when I heard my phone ringing. I wanted to ignore it, but I felt it could be important. I picked up the phone and checked the caller id just to see it was my father calling.

I wonder why he was calling. I hesitated but eventually accepted the call, so I could just get the conversation done or else he would just continue pestering me.

“Hello son, how are you doing?” I heard my father speak.

Why was he acting like we have a great relationship?, I thought.

“Get to the point, what is it?” I say, my face twisting into a scowl.

“Ever the impatient one son, anyways I'll get to the point. I was in a meeting today with the board members in regards to the complete handover of the company and they weren't too thrilled with you being the next CEO as you haven't settled down yet with someone, so they've come up with an ultimatum…” he replies.

“What the hell do you mean by that?” I interrupt him and end the call without waiting for a reply from him. I had to see him so we could discuss properly.

I toss a comment about my secretary emailing Miss Anniston the details she'll be needing and rush out of the room. I clear the bills and head out and my Mercedes AMG gt is already waiting for me, I drive off to my father's house.

I got to his house and stormed up to his study, not bothering to acknowledge the greetings of the staffs. I had more important issues to attend to.

“Dad what did you mean over the phone” I say glaring at him.

“Well hello to you too son” he replies sarcastically.

“Cut the crap I'm not here to joke with you” I retorted.

“Well son I meant what I said the board gave you an ultimatum to get married before the end of the year or you forfeit the seat and besides the Chinese are coming next month and you'll be needing a wife to seal that deal too, so I don't see why you're fuming” he says nonchalantly.

“I could have taken care of the Chinese deal without the meddling of the board” I reply.

“Well son there's nothing we can do now, you must get married or you lose everything you've worked so hard for” he says and waves his hand in a sign of dismissal.

I just roll my eyes and leave his office. I'd have to find someone to play wife with until I'm in the clear, before my dad decides to meddle.

I was halfway down the stairs when Sophia, my dad's annoying new wife, called my name, I simply ignored her and kept on walking.

“I know you can hear me David, but anyways your dad will be expecting you here next week for a dinner and your attendance is mandatory, he also invited Annabella so you better show up” I hear her say before I step out of the house.

Typically dad to already be meddling before the news gets to me and he didn't even deem it fit to let me know about his little arrangement, well two can play that game. I just need to find someone before then.

On the drive home I kept on thinking of who could be the best candidate for the job when suddenly Miss Anniston pops into my head.

“Woah, why did she just pop into my head?” I ask myself before smirking as an idea formed in my head.

Immediately I got home I called my private investigator Mr Carlos, he picked on the first ring.

“Hello boss, what can I do for you?” He asks.

This was why I loved working with Carlos, he was always ready to work no matter what time I call and he was very efficient. After all he was an ex CIA agent before he resigned to start his own Private investigation company.

“I'll need all the information I can get on Miss Flora Anniston, nothing should be left out” I reply.

“Okay boss, I'll email everything I find on her once I'm done” he says.

“Good” I say and end the call.

After the call I forward the details of the next meeting with Miss Anniston and the files she'll be needing to my assistant and instruct her to deliver it to Miss Anniston.

“Now just one more thing left to do and everything will be complete” I say to myself while pouring a glass of bourbon for myself.

I just needed to speak with my lawyer so I could draw up a contract that'll benefit both parties during the time of the arrangement.

I pick up my phone and dial Maurice, my best friend, legal advisor and lawyer.

“I need a contract” I say immediately he picks up.

“Hello to you too, I'm doing fine thanks for asking” he replied sarcastically.

“I'm serious, this is no time for jokes” I say through gritted teeth. I forgot how annoying Maurice could be, we've been best friends since I can remember and he has been my legal advisor since I started showing interest in the company.

“Okay, what type of contract do you need?” He asks, slipping into his professional lawyer tone.

“I need a 3 year marriage contract” I reply.

“Wait, what do you need a marriage contract for?” he exclaims.

I take a deep breath in an attempt to calm the annoyance I felt toward Maurice couldn't he just mind his business and draw up my contract but no he just had to be nosy.

“To summarize everything the board plans to take the company from me if I don't get married by the end of the year and that's not even the worse part I need to have a bride by next month or I miss out on the Chinese deal I've been working on for months” I huff annoyed.

“Sorry dude that's a lot but where and how do you plan to find a woman that'll be willing to play wife?” He asks.

“Well I've found someone but I'm hoping she agrees or I'll be forced to put up with that obnoxious Annabella and I can't have my father meddling in my affairs” I say tiredly.

“Well I hope so too for your sake man, anyways just send the details of the contract and I'll have it drawn up and ready by tomorrow” he replies.

“Thanks man, I appreciate” I say before ending the call and drinking my bourbon, the familiar burn calming my tensed muscles and relieving my stress.

I'm enjoying my drink when I get a notification from my email, I check it and see it's from Carlos.

“That was fast” I

mutter to myself and go through the file.

“Interesting” I say while smirking in delight.
