EPILOGUE

Six months later, I still go to Noir sometimes — old habits leave slowly, even the ones you're glad to be rid of. Except now it's to find the same man every time, to let him pull me onto the dance floor like he did that first night, except this time I don't disappear before sunrise, and neither does he. My rule isn't dead. Chloe likes to remind me of that, usually while refilling my wine glass and looking entirely too pleased with herself. I still tell Chloe everything before I tell anyone else, including Julian. Neither of them ever got a dramatic, gala-lit moment of their own. There was no mark, no old family legend waiting to explain them. Just two people who kept showing up to catch the pieces, until one day they realized they'd rather catch each other's instead. "No crisis tonight," Daniel says, most weeks now, pulling up outside her building anyway, right on time. "Old habits," Chloe says, and gets in the car. THE END…………………
