All eyes on him

1755 Words
Liam stopped the car in front of his house and saw the lights on. Shit! He hoped his parents were asleep so he could sneak in. He opened the car door, still trying to calm his nerves. He closed the door gently and tried to sneak to the back cabin. Even at this state of agitation, he could not stop thinking of Gina. They had gone out with the hope of coming back together but he was alone now. What was wrong with him? He just discovered that she was a werewolf and had been attacking people. He had to let her go off his mind. The front door opened and Mr. and Mrs. Crawford came out. They looked perturbed but felt a relief as they saw him. “Liam, where have you been? It’s past 1:00 AM” His mother, Angelina asked. “Oh my God! What happened to you?” “He is bleeding.” Crawford observed and Liam wished he had not come back but rather make a phone call, giving an excuse to be away for the night. “What happened to you?” Crawford said and the added, “the car is smashed.” “I had an accident but I am fine.” Liam said. “You are bleeding.” Angelina said and moved to him. “You need to be checked.” “We should take him to the hospital.” Crawford said. “Maybe he needs a first aid.” Angelina said. “How did this happen? I mean the car is so smashed. Thank god you are walking.” “Yeah, I am fine. You don’t have to worry about the hospital. I just had a lacerate.” “No my dear. We can’t say for sure.” Angelina said. “We should check for internal injuries. We are not taking chances.” Liam saw his father looking at the car. “I don’t want to go to hospital because I know I am fine.” “I insist, Liam.” Angela said.”We called you over one hundred times, left voice messages so we became agitated and called the police.” “Police? Why? I am nineteen and an adult.” “Not when you are not used to staying out this late without notification. You are wasting time, Liam.” “Okay, I will go to the hospital. I need to change my clothes.” He said and ran inside. A few minutes later, he was out and his father was behind the wheel. He was taken to the hospital his mother worked in and was checked up by another doctor. He was certified okay, and his minor wound was treated but the mother insisted he had a rest and wait for further check-ups. He was admitted and giving a bed. He was not happy about this but he knew how adamant his parents could be. “We did not tell your siblings.” Angela said as she sat by his bed. “You know how worrisome they could get.” “I know.” He said. “How did it happen?” She asked. “I need a rest mum.” He said. “Okay, my love.” He closed his eyes and his mind went back to the terrifying events. How could he tell them that he had been dating a werewolf and harboring her in their house? Everything was happening so swift. God! He could not believe he was attacked by three werewolves and almost got killed. Thank God he had his father’s gun. He could not understand this. Was Gina part of the gang that nearly got him killed? Did she send them to get the hard-disc? But she could have gone to look for it herself all those while. And she was found wounded so she was also attacked. Should he call Ian and hand over the hard disc to him? No. he did not know who to trust. Maybe he should just throw it away and let this pass by. Pass by? He killed two of them and still had the hard disc. They would not rest until they found him. What did he get himself into? Gina! Why did he still think of her. Not in a mysterious way but longing to see her ask her questions. He was crazy, right? He was longing to see a killer wolf. Why did she not kill him all those while? Why did he feel she was not evil? Was he blindly in love? Love! Damn! He was in love with her. It was not just about her luscious body, or amber colored eyes. It was more than the soothing mellifluous voice or the sweetness of their love making. There was something else, so overwhelming he could not identify but it kept him glued to her. Was this the reason they said love was blind and crazy? Was love not dangerous? Come on, Liam, stop it and leave this dangerous route you are threading on, he cautioned himself. Then he remembered their last moments together.   “I read a story book when I was a child. A girl named Cinderella was sent on an errand by her parents and along the way; she saw a beautiful horse and got carried away. She was so fascinated she forgot that she was sent on an errand and the horse smiled at her and asked to come for a ride. She remembered the errand but felt glued to the horse. She kept riding until she got lost in bliss but she knew her parents will come searching for her and the horse may be perceived to have been the cause. Now she was confused because she did not want the horse to get hurt and did not want to stop enjoying the ride. So the parents hired armed men to come for her.” “Whoa! So what happened next?” “She saw them coming and alighted and started running. The horse was shocked ad thought she was barmy but she was running away from it so she would not be found with it. She had to run from what she was enjoying.” “Irony. Did they find her?” “That is most painful part. I did not read it all because the book got lost. I still want to know what happened and now, I can’t even remember the title of the book.” “Oh, oh…I am sorry about that. Was it at the orphanage?” “Yes. That is a long time ago but you make me remember my childhood because you treat me like a pampered baby. Maybe that made me remember the story.”   There was no story book, he decided. He was the horse and she Cinderella. She was sent on a mission and got attracted by him. She got carried away but was scared he could get hurt so she had to runaway. She knew they would come after her and did not want to involve him. She had sensed them coming and she left. If he had not gone for the hard disc out of curiosity, he would have not been in danger. She loved him! Now he wanted to see her, hold her and kiss her. Was that not dangerous? He did not care. He felt dizzy, more lassitude and fell into a deep sleep. Unknown to him, Ian, Rick and Sherry were on their way to his house while there was an emergency meeting going on in Wolvercania: A team was being prepared to come for him and the hard disc.     ******     He looked like sixty year old man with grizzled slippery hair and shifty deep set eyes. His forehead was wrinkled, with a lower red lip and gap tooth. He wore black shirt over black trousers and sat with a glass of water in his left hand. This was Durenga Stephen AKA 100 Days, the head of Wolvercania. When he was a member of staff of Barklem Bank, he claimed he born in 1960 and retired in 1999. He claimed he was going to spend his retirement in Africa and since then vanished from America society. A lot of people thought he was in African but they did not know who he really was. In fact, only a few knew how he got his sobriquet  100 days though he claimed it was when he got missing as a child for 100 days. He was still in the land of America but a world on its own. A place only their kinds knew existed: Wolvercania. Durenga was born on 7 April, 1815 during the 100 days war also known as The War of The War of The Seventh Coalition, marking the period between Napoleon’s return from exile on the island of Elba to Paris on 20 March 1815 and the second restoration  of King Louis XVIII on 8 July, 1815. Durenga was the founder of Wolvercania and had a lot of support from top werewolves. He was sitting in his palace with Boris, Karl, and Daniel. Daniel had just spent one hour with his girlfriend when Durenga sent for him. There was a need for an emergency meeting. “I think we have said all that is needed to be said.” Durenga concluded. “I am sorry Daniel but without this hard disc where you said you have your blue prints, you will be of no much use to us and considering what we have done for you and what you have done for us, we should give each other benefits of doubts and grace periods. I think this is the right time to get it since you said it would take three years to get those things done again and you know we don’t have such time.” “I understand Alpha.” Daniel said, cursing under his breath. “I am glad we have an identification. Liam Crawford…hmmmmm . Killed two of my men and took away the hard disc. He may be in cahoots with the traitors. Make sure you get the disc and kill him. I also think you should watch out for Ian. He has information about the boy too and he is a traitor. Kill Ian too. His father was a good man but his children are traitors. Ian’s brother married a vampire and left. Ian is in cahoots with humans. Use CGY men as backups.I repeat, kill Ian.” Karl smiled. “Very good.” “I did not mean random killing and make sure you get the disc first. Boris, watch over Karl. You know him.” Boris nodded. “You may go. Daniel, if you succeed in getting back the disc, and the mission proceeds, you will have one million Bwaras and a trip with your woman to Red forest.” Daniel nodded. ”Thank you, Alpha.” A few minutes later, seven of them were in a plane heading to Illinois. They had to get it before Ian gets to the boy. “Pegg said Ian and his human detectives have gone to the boy’s house but only saw his car. We will check hospitals. That is a place he may be found and which hospital would be more suitable than where his mother works?” Again, Karl smiled. “Liam Crawford.” He whispered.
