The moment I stepped out with Adrian, the door behind me shut with a soft click.
It felt final.
Like there was no going back.
My heart pounded as I followed him down the long hallway, my wedding dress brushing softly against the polished floor.
Neither of us spoke.
The silence between us wasn’t awkward.
It was… heavy.
Intentional.
As if he was waiting.
Testing me.
We stepped outside, and I froze.
A sleek black car was already waiting.
Of course it was.
Everything about him screamed control.
Power.
Nothing felt accidental.
He opened the car door for me, his movements calm and effortless.
“Get in,” he said.
Not harsh.
Not loud.
But it wasn’t a suggestion either.
I hesitated for a second.
Just one.
Then I slid inside.
The door closed behind me, and seconds later, he was seated beside me.
“Drive,” he instructed.
The car moved instantly.
I stared straight ahead, my hands resting tightly in my lap, unsure of what to say… or even how to act around him.
After a few minutes, I couldn’t take the silence anymore.
“Where are we going?” I asked softly.
“My place.”
My breath hitched slightly.
His place.
Of course.
I swallowed.
“Oh…”
Out of the corner of my eye, I felt his gaze on me.
“You’re nervous.”
It wasn’t a question.
“I just met you,” I replied honestly.
“And yet,” he said smoothly, “you chose to come with me.”
I turned to look at him.
“I didn’t have a choice.”
A faint smirk appeared on his lips.
“There’s that word again.”
Choice.
Before I could respond, he leaned back slightly, his expression turning more serious.
“If you’re coming with me,” he said, “then there are rules.”
My heart skipped.
Rules?
I nodded slowly. “Okay…”
“First,” he began, his voice calm but firm, “you do exactly as I say.”
My breath caught.
“Second, you don’t question my decisions.”
That made me frown slightly.
“And third…”
He paused.
Just long enough to make my heart race.
“You don’t belong to anyone else.”
The words sent a strange shiver through me.
“I… I was never—”
“I know,” he cut in smoothly. “But now it’s clear.”
Clear?
Before I could ask what he meant, the car slowed to a stop.
I looked up—
And my breath completely left me.
A massive mansion stood before us, illuminated by soft golden lights.
It looked unreal.
Like something out of a dream.
Or a nightmare.
“We’re here,” he said.
The driver stepped out and opened the door.
I followed Adrian out slowly, my eyes still scanning the place in disbelief.
“You live here?” I asked.
“Yes.”
Of course he did.
I should have expected it.
Still, seeing it was something else entirely.
As we walked inside, the doors opened automatically, revealing an interior even more luxurious than I imagined.
Marble floors.
High ceilings.
Everything perfect.
Everything controlled.
Just like him.
“This will be your home for now,” Adrian said, walking ahead without looking back.
Home.
The word felt strange.
Unfamiliar.
A maid appeared almost immediately, bowing her head slightly.
“Prepare a room for her,” Adrian instructed.
“Yes, sir.”
I blinked.
Everything was happening so fast.
“Wait,” I said suddenly.
He stopped.
Then slowly turned to face me.
“What is it?”
I hesitated.
Then gathered just enough courage to speak.
“Why are you doing this?” I asked. “Helping me… bringing me here…”
For a moment, he just looked at me.
Studying me.
Like he was trying to decide something.
Then, slowly, he stepped closer.
Too close.
My heart started racing again.
“You really want to know?” he asked quietly.
I nodded.
His gaze darkened slightly.
“Because,” he said, his voice dropping lower, “from the moment I saw you…”
He paused.
My breath caught.
“…I decided you shouldn’t belong to him.”
My chest tightened.
“That doesn’t explain anything,” I whispered.
A faint, dangerous smile touched his lips.
“It doesn’t need to.”
Before I could react, he reached out—
And brushed a loose strand of hair behind my ear.
The gesture was simple.
But the effect—
Anything but.
“Get some rest,” he said calmly, stepping back as if nothing had happened. “You’ll need it.”
“For what?” I asked, my voice barely steady.
He turned away, already walking off.
“For what comes next.”
And just like that—
He was gone.
Leaving me standing there, confused… overwhelmed…
And dangerously aware of one thing.
I had just stepped into a world I didn’t understand.
And the man who brought me here—
Was far more dangerous than I had imagined.
