8. Mr. President

Nora POV

As soon as we reached the office, we ran towards the elevator once we were out of the car, And making the situation even more difficult we met MS. Obnoxious herself waiting at the entrance of the elevator for it to arrive. I suddenly felt my almost sweet day has taken a deviated path where I could sense trouble. she gave me the sweetest fake smile once she saw me, "Did your working time has been changed, it's almost noon !!" in other words she asking me why the hell am I this late, I gave the same fake smile to her " Good morning Mrs. Adam, how are you doing!?" Kori didn't even bother to greet her.

" Am good, thank you... you didn't answer my question though" she pinpoints me that am being rude and giggled a little trying to be sweet with her point, the elevator reached, we three entered. Well, two can play this game, I fake laughed at her "you are always upright with lot of questions, I happen to face a situation on my way to office, don't worry, I have been informed and excused by Mr. Christopher." I just wanted her to stop questioning me, and bringing Christopher name will do the trick.

"of course!! you are always excused. " she sounded irritated almost showing off her true shades, but as a pro she composed herself and gave me a slight smile,yay! 0-1, "so is this situation of yours is the reason for your blush!?" at the mere mention of it, I lost the game I blushed even more remember his face. Rachel lifted one of her eyebrows as if she is surprised to see me like this and gave me the wicked sweet smirk knowing that I lost our mental duel, I didn't answer her, she didn't question me back as well. I waited for the elevator to stop from this never ending ride to reach the 30th floor., damn it what's with this elevator being so slow today..

Once the elevator stopped , I was the one to rush out first and saw the commotion that was going on the floor, everyone were celebrating , clapping, congratulating , wooing.. ' did everyone received a bonus , what’s with the celebration' I thought to myself.

At the distance I could see Christopher along with his father Daniel Adam whose one hand is around Christopher shoulders and the other hand is holding a glass of champagne, one feet away from them I could see Jane Adam whose eyes are focused on her husband and son which is filled with adoration and proudness. I was jerked a little by Rachel who surpassed me to join them, she stood near Christopher who didn’t even bother to look at her. I was approached by Miranda , Christopher’s personal assistant “Dear girl, I heard that you have met with an accident, are you alright, were you hurt anywhere!?”. I looked for Kori but he got immersed with other employees to gather information, I specifically told him not to mention anything about the accident,.

Miranda is a women being in her early 40’s ,she always been so dear to me She is one of the most reliable and trusted people of Christopher, so she knew that am leading a double life. “Am more than ok Mira, need not be worried and thanks for the concern, But what’s happening here, what’s all with the commotion!?” I asked her still unsure of what’s going on. She gave me relief smile to know that am alright “ hah. You missed the best parts, I think you will be much glad if you come to known about the news from the man himself” she left me hanging in my confusion.

Kori came rushing to me with a shock written all over his face, but before he could open his, I heard his deep voice behind me “Am glad that you are still in one piece." knowing the owner of the voice I turned to look at Christopher himself, his radiant silver green eyes looking at me intently to check for injuries. I turned back and gave a daring look to Kori for which he just shrugged and said “ you know how that man is , he was persisting me to give all the details at one point I gave in and told him the .” I turned away from him 'I gave him just one job today, even that he screwed’ I thought to myself rolling back my eyes and focus on the man in front of me “ Chris am alright, see am not squeaking anywhere” I said moving my hands up and down, he just laughed at my behaviour “Am glad! Or else someone would have had a bad day“ he said in all serious tone. I guess he meant the other party involved with the accident. Thank goodness!

I ignored his remarks and changed the subject “ Chris what’s going on , what’s that everyone are celebrating!?” after hearing my question something ignited within Kori like he forgotten something, he went up straight to Christopher hugged him giving him taps at his back, “Am so happy and proud of you” he congratulated and acted like wiping of his fake tears. “ ji thanks man, I appreciate it ” Christopher said tapping Kori’s back. I gave both a questioning look shrugging my shoulders. “you have to tell her before she looses her mind” Kori whispered loud enough so I could hear it. I squinted my eyes on them “yea, you are right !!” he responded to Kori and pulled me to his cabin.

In his cabin, three pair of eyes focused on me as soon as I entered, Mr. Daniel Adam was glad to see me and said “there is my favourite girl”.. and MS. Jane Adam hugged me once she saw me “ how are you Nora dear !?” the situation was overwhelming to me, one of the greatest family in the world is treating me so fondly., I feel lucky and shy at the same time ., The only person who doesn’t like my presence there was obviously Rachel Adam, I could sense here throwing daggers towards me with her eyes and trying to cover her intension with the fake smile she plastered on her face. She has mastered in faking emotions, am sure she would have been a great CIA agent, people like her are not easy to c***k.

“ Am great Mrs. Adam, thanks. How are you doing?” I replied still being in her hold , wow she always smell sweet. After releasing me “ oh please!!how much time should I say to you call me Jane, you don’t have to be formal just because we are in the office.!”.. Jane and I are book club buddies ,she is a 4th generation reader and While am the 1st generation reader. We met in a book club without knowing that she is my boss mother and she gave me interesting facts on reading and suggested me great books to have a look on. Day by day we got close a became good friends and only then she revealed her identity to me and to our surprise I told her that her son is my boss., From that moment onwards whenever she visits the office we used to spend some quality time together by having lunch and we even do shopping’s together sometime.

As for as Mr. Daniel, I have worked with him on few occasions, he have always complimented well on my work ethics, and his wife words on me has been my additionally points for me to be in his favourable spot. So that’s how I think I got my title from his as “ his favourite girl”. Am proudly showing off all my 32 teeth inside my head whenever he says that am his favourite girl.! That man is quite a charm for his age, no wonder Christopher is handsome, he got all his handsomeness from his father.

“ Isn’t great , this decision ...I have been waiting long for this old man to come to his sense , and finally it happened, and I feel like the whole Himalayan weighed burden has dropped off my heart”.. Jane exclaimed enthusiastically . All I did was I could nod along with her not sure of what was the decision. Jane understood my confused state “ you didn’t know what had happened, did you!?”.. I gave a tight smile to her and shook my head saying “no”. She saw her son who was amused by the conversation me and his mother were having “ Christopher Adam will you stop tormenting the poor girl and tell her what’s going on.!”. He just laughed at his mother’s command and was about to tell, that’s when Mr. Daniel interfered and said “ I think it would be best if I tell her, because am the reason for things to happen”.

‘For god sake someone say it, suspense is killing me’ my brain was screaming from inside but I was eagerly waiting for Mr Daniel’s words without showing my inner battles on my face. “I retired” was all he said, and I wonder what’s there to celebrate about it, it’s sad to loose a great mind in the business world, but why now, why all of a sudden, before I could ask further questions, he added “ I want to spend more time with my beautiful wife, by tripping all around the world and that won’t be possible if I take business load along with me, so I had to take a decision between my two love and She won as usual, so I stepped down from my authority and placed my throne on my son Christopher’s shoulder for this kingdom I have built.” He finished off dramatically. I saw Mr. Daniel with adoration but still bit confused with his words. Christopher saw my state and got amused by my confusion “In simple terms he made me the president to Adams industries.” He said as it’s not a big deal. I was beyond shock and happiness clouded my mind, I screamed and jumped along with Jane, and hugged Rachel ( clearly she didn’t expect it)..and lastly I hugged the man himself “Mr. President”.
