3. The Shadow

Alex Vincent

My knight, my angel ,my angelic knight....

He was the one who saved me from the dreadful night, That was the first time I saw him., He is an ex-marine and now working as a bounty hunter(a person who pursues a criminal or fugitive for whom a reward is offered.).

He mentioned that he was chasing a criminal when he happened to hear my struggles, that’s when he stepped-in to rescue me from my unfortunate night.

After rescuing me he didn’t leave me hanging and move on with his life, he often visited me, kept dibs on me, he was the one who contacted my mom, explained my situations and convinced her to be supportive to me.

Initially my mom was against on having a baby out of a wedlock, so she cut of her ties with me, that’s why I happen to live with my ex/the Devil.

But like all mum, my mom gave in when she came to know that I had gone through hell and Alex words convinced her to be more supportive than ever.

Not only that, Alex was the one who helped me to attain my new identity, he knows all my in and out, he erased all about Lenora pierce, no one can track her, even when tried and made me to perfect Nora Higgins(‘Higgins’ is my nana family name), all my records are clean and prefect because of him, I will be always indebted to him..

Nothing equals to the help he has done to me. He is an angel that found me, to help me out, when I didn’t even cry for help.

His steel grey eyes looked at me adorably and smiled “you look nice, any special occasions today.!?”

I handed him a coffee mug, smiled sweetly at him “Good morning to you too, yes!! A small meeting in the afternoon with my team and other designers.” He came closer to me and stroked my cheek “You had your nightmares again..?!” I touched his hands above my cheek assuring him and smiled at him. “Its fine.. am alright.!” he gave me a tight smile and had his coffee.

Alex is a handsome hunk. He is 29 years young and 6.2 feet, he has brunette hair just like mine, but a short one, which had dark brown to light brown strands and lastly his steel grey eyes are magnetic. But that’s not his attraction ‘his smile’ it can easily affect any woman and make their knees weak, but he doesn’t smile not to anyone, because of the profession, he had choose to be all guarded always. Encountering many criminals in his life he knows other part of the world which is dreadful and unimaginable, so he shadowed himself from the sweetness of the world and always have a straight face which is emotionless. Even he is known as “The Shadow” among the people around his profession, everyone knew that he exists and but don’t know his real identity. He really knows how to be a shadow.

He even guided me too be like him, to lead a double life, which was strange for me at the beginning but considering my situation it’s for the best. Well nobody is perfect.

I was waiting for my assistant Kori, We usually go to office together. Alex doesn’t trust my driving so he personally asked Kori to drive me safe since he will be out of town most of the time. It was just one teeny-tiny accident which I caused a very long time ago, and that was it, from that day onwards Kori is being my unpaid driver.

Alex always treats me like a overprotective boyfriend..! “Boyfriend”, I am not sure to say that he is my boyfriend.

‘We are complicated’, three years back he expressed his feelings towards me, I told him that am not ready to be in a relationship now and I need time, that was it, he never even mentioned about it again, never tried to meet other girls, he just stayed muted about it. After that day he was very casual, like nothing awkward happened, he texted me, checked on me and visited my place as always whenever he is in the city, gradually I understood that he is giving me my space at the same time he doesn’t want to stay away from me as well. He is really something.

Sometimes I really do feel guilty for the way he is treating me, any women would be swooped of their feet if a man like Alex showed interest on them. But I clearly was not ready for any relationship as of now, my only focus is my career and my son’s future.

I know am an important person in Alex life, he easily let go off his guard around me, smiles more often with me, never hesitated to be silly around me, he let me know about his family and background, he doesn’t easily open up to anyone unless he feel so. But am not the one he needs, this man deserves only the best things in the world and I don’t think am that person for him.

Honestly even I tried, to see him the way he sees me, I even gave my flats key to him to see if there is any change of emotions between us, but it went off as a casual thing between us, his closeness never affected me., I feel safe and secured when he is around me, his hugs comfort and soothes me rather than making me attracted to it.

I can’t even imagine my life without Alex being in it. I wanted to be there for him like he is being there for me every time. I always have this urge to take care of him even though he doesn’t need to be taken care off, I wouldn’t excuse myself by saying it’s just ‘friendship.’ What we have is beyond friendship and zero percent ‘intimate’. The bond we share is yet to be named by the human race.

I know am being a stupid to neglect the feelings from a man like Alex, either am freaking crazy or I might be not into “prince charming”.

My door bell goes on, averting my thoughts, Alex opened the door, revealing Kori along with his husband Marcus (Kori and Marcus are homosexual) Kori greeted me “hello beautiful, shall we get going!?” He eyed Alex “Well, hello there marshmallow, it’s been a quiet a while since I saw you, how have you been!?” he excitedly threw his arms around Alex shoulders and hugged him( more like squeezed him), Marcus rushed towards Kori side and pulled him off Alex ‘jealousy is evident in his eyes’, Marcus then expands his shoulders to make it look broad so that he would match Alex and greeted him “Hey man what’s up, how are you doing?”

Alex sees my way shaking his head and rolled his eyes ‘”Ah!! These lovebirds”. I laughed at his comment, grasping Marcus attention, he came closer to me and gave me a beso. “Good morning, Gorgeous lady!” he greeted me, I smiled at him “Good morning to you too Marcus and thank you”.

Kori came near me all smiling, “Christopher called your office number and told that he has cancelled the meeting but he said that there is an important announcement he needs to make so it will be better if we get going.” he said

I looked over Alex, he was having his coffee, before I could say anything he said “Be safe, take care and have a nice day, love” I smiled at him and said “you too Alex.”

Kori and Marcus bid their bye’s to each other and we rushed to my parking lot where my white JAGUAR XF was resting, perks of being a boss! Kori started the engine and we are off to our office.
