Sin of Lust by Swapie Achilles CHAPTER VII OCTOBER   The four of them are cleaning the rooms, Mary Jane is pushing and pulling the cabinets, bed, shelves, and tables, while the twins are sweeping each corner of where the furniture came from. There are also boxes laid on the floor neatly, so when the some arrives to get it, it will be easier for them to take. “Sister Mary, are you tired? You’re doing all the heavy duties here.” Micah asked, when she notice the nun is getting tired of their chores. “No, I’m fine.” She replied, wiping the sweat on her forehead. “Nah, we’re not dumb not to notice, you’re tired, sister.” Melody replied with a sigh as if she’s older than the nun she’s talking with, “now, now, take it easy and we will get us some snacks.” “No, no, no, I will get you our snacks, so stay here.” Mary Jane insisted, because to her, wherever angle you look at it, it doesn’t look appropriate for kids to prepare snacks for older people. “No, you stay here because you’re tired. We got this, sister!” Melody retorted. “Sister Novelyn told us, that if someone is tired, we should help them in all possible way we can do.” Mary Jane can’t argue because they’re right, she did all the heavy pushing and lifting in the room so she’s undeniably tired. But to think that she would hear something like that from a kid, makes her realize one thing, there’s still a hope in this orphanage. “I’ll go with you!” Blanche chirped. “Thank you, Melody,” she thanked the kid before she runs off with Blanche who volunteered to help her prepare their food. Mary Jane sighed, with a small on her lips, “Maybe they’re a lot smarter on their age. We can use that to make Daleon fall.”   As of now, Mary Jane and Micah are left in the room, as they’re taking a rest Micah can’t help but get curious. “Something is strange.”  She stated as she looks at the ceiling with her feet swaying, since it’s too short to touch the floor from where she’s sitting. “Huh? What is it?” Mary Jane asked, taking the linen cloth that covers her dark hair off. “Revered Daleon didn’t really have appointment on Sundays, because it’s his rest day. He usually denies whenever he’s getting invited to any religious matter on this day, so, it’s kind of strange for him to bless a house on Sunday.” Micah said. Mary Jane’s heart beats faster from what he learned, “Did he know what I’m doing? Did he get an idea? Did he get suspicious? If so, when did it started?” The curiosity on the kid’s face fades and turns into a delighted one, “But I guess that’s Daleon to you. He’s such a kind man.” But even though she’s delighted, the nun can’t help but get scared for her and for the children, from the fact that if he gets suspicious to anything she says and do, the worst case is she’ll have the same fate with Sister Novelyn or worse, one of the kids will perish. Her train of negative thoughts were interrupted with a loud cheery voice of two kids, “We’re here! We make us omelet sandwiches!” “Omelet?!” Micah jumps from the table she’s sitting on and went to get the tray from Blanche hand and put it on the table, “did you two made it?” “Yeah!” the youngest one beamed, “we made sure no one’s looking when we cook it.” “Why?” Mary Jane asked, “were you not allowed to cook?” “Well, we are allowed to cook, if… a very big if there’s an elder that will supervise us.” Melody said. “What?!” The nun was very shocked, “you cook under my supervision but I am not there!” she frantically yelled. “Chill, sister. We still got it.” Melody put her hand on Blanche’s shoulder, “right, Blanche?” The little one bob her head up and down as she jumps, “Yes! I did my best to be look out!” “Oh my god, these twins have some guts…” Mary Jane sighed, “but please don’t do it again, you’ll get us in trouble.” “Yes, ma’am.” Melody and Blanche answered in unison with huge grin on their faces. “It’s seems like they’re not planning to obey me, and by the looks of it, they’re going to do it sooner or later,” she internally analyzed the two. “If I caught you or someone caught you doing that, I will have your dinner, and you’ll get none. For an entire week.” She stated in a stern voice, and she’s sure that she heard the two of them gasped in surprise. Blanche and Melody look at each other from the corner of their eyes as if they’re communicating. “Don’t try me.” She continued. “Yes, we will not do it again anymore.” They said with a sad tone. “But I guess, you did good this time.” She praised them, “let’s cook together!” And they all cheered happily. “Now, let’s eat.” Mary chirped. When they are eating Melody said the same thing Micah have said to her, “It’s Sunday, why reverend Daleon wants to bless a house?” she asked with her mouth full of food. “I thought so too,” Micah replied, while wiping the pieces of bread from her cheeks, “but don’t you think he’s just doing his job? “That looks strange to me,” she answered proceeding to gulp her glass of juice. Micah sighed from her response, “Everything is strange to you.” Mary Jane and Blanche look at each other. “Can you not judge me? I want to be a detective, so if you want to be one, then everything around you is strange. You’re not going to be good detective if nothing is strange in your eyes.” Melody puffs out her chest and put her fist on it with such dignity. “Detective isn’t even that cool,” Micah exhaled, “firefighters are way cooler. They are fighting of deadly fires with their magics! Their water that cleanse the devil is mightier than sword that only brings destruction!” she beamed with her fist high up in the air. “But detectives can solve the most difficult riddle that history has never been answered before. They will see through deceptions and will bring right judgement to others.”  Melody retorted with might on her tone. “Okay, okay, both of your dreams are best.” Mary Jane stops the two, but she can’t deny the fact the powerful mind of these are out of this world, maybe they’ve read too many fantasy books but for them to think like that is really amazing. Their minds are all beautiful. “How old are you again guys?” she asked, them. “We’re eight years old.” Melody and Micah simultaneously replied. “I’m six.” Blanche replied. “What about you, Blanche? What’s your dream?” Micah excitedly asked. The kid put unfinished sandwich on her lap as she contemplates what to answer to her, she was quiet for the mean time so they all thought she doesn’t have a dream yet. “W-Well, it’s if you have no dream as of now, I’m sure you’ll find what your heart truly desires,” Mary Jane pats her small shoulder. “Yeah, that’s true, it took me a whole week if I’m going to be a detective or a guard of the palace, so take your time to think about it.” Melody commented. “No,” the youngest of them replied, “I’ve made up my mind,” Blanche lifts her head up, “I want to be a nun! Like Sister Mary Jane! And I will take care of the kids and I will make them safe!” Micah and Melody look at each other along with Mary Jane. They were silent when the heard the kid’s dream. “W-Why? Is it bad?” Blanche asked innocently thinking that dreaming to be nun will futile and close to being impossible. “No!” the twins beamed at her, “that’s not bad! That’s actually good dream!” Mary Jane can feel her heart warmth at the thought of this kid, she might be young but her heart is as pure as diamond with no tint of impurities. And the only thing that matters to her is make her siblings and others safe. Dreaming big is something that most of are afraid to do so, since we’re bound to get caught up in a whirl of expectations that will be cause of our own downfall. But Blanche has a bigger dream than anyone, and a huge heart for such a small kid. “But before you became a nun, you need to pass some initiation!” Melody chimes. Melody let out an exasperated sigh, “I don’t know if I should trust them…” “Sister, do you know how to read?” Melody asked the nun. “Yes, why?” she replied shortly. “Teach us!” the three’s eyes glistened with excitement when they knew they have a chance to read and write. “That’s basic essential for a detective,” The older sister, Melody put her hands on her eyes as if she’s putting a binocular and scanning around. “I want to write my name!” Micah shouted. “I want to learn everything sister Mary knows!” Blanche jumps up and down. “Alright, Okay, calm down guys, I will teach you.” The kind sister pats their head as she tried not get to overwhelm by their enthusiasm.   They already cleaned the room; all the things were neatly packed and the room is good to go if ever there’s newly arrived nun for them. “Alright kids, now it’s for us to pack up and leave,” Mary jane put her hands on her waist and in a victorious manner, “thank you for helping me.” She smiled at hem. “Don’t worry about it, sister, we got you.” Melody grinned as she slumps the map on her shoulder and a bucket of water on her other hand. “Just call us, we are the captains of cleaning here,” Micah agreed with her sister as she lifted a box of books to put it on top of the others. “And to you too, little one, thank you for helping us,” Mary jane pats Blanche’s head and that makes her giggle. “You did good! You dusted them well.” She gave her a praise. Blanche can’t help but giggle at the attention, thus the twins gave their praises too. “Yeah, you did good baby Blanche, now we’re hiring you in our crew. But you’re not going to be a crew mate, I promote you in the position of vice captain.” Melody told her. “Welcome aboard mate,” Micah cheered.   Mary Jane laughs at their colorful imaginations, “Kids really do have a huge imagination…” Now that the twins are gone to put the cleaning materials away Mary Jane and Blanche once again get the box from behind the shelf and get it. When the box is finally on Mary Jane’s hand, she scans it thoroughly, “This isn’t just a wooden box, is it?” The box is almost perfect cube that is the size of a small ; she twisted it in different ways but she found no lock on it or any whole where a key should be inserted. “How can you open this?” she asked out loud as she forced it to open. “May I see?” Blanche extended her hand, “please?” Mary Jane didn’t hesitate to give to her. Blanche did her best to open it but it was all futile, “Maybe we should get Melody, may she can open this.” “But if you do…” this time, the nun falters, “they might know.” “Why” the kid tilted her head to the side, “are you planning to keep it a secret?” Mary Jane was taken aback by her question, she does want to keep at a secrete for anyone not to get suspicious, but if she’s planning to save all the kids, she needs to tell them sooner or later. “Yes,” she replied with determination, “I want to keep it as secret for now until we have a way to get it done.”
