THE FORGOTTEN BLOODLINE

1574 Words
The morning light touched my face and I opened my eyes slowly. I was still lying near my mother’s grave and the grass was wet under me. My dress was cold and dirty. For a moment, I thought I only dreamed what happened last night, the voice, the light, the howl, but when I touched the tombstone, I froze. There were marks on it, strange marks glowing faintly like tiny silver fire. I whispered, “What is this?” The glow grew stronger and the soft wind circled around me, and the air smelt like rain and smoke and then I heard it again. A voice, it was calm and clear. “You are not what you think.” I jumped back. “Who said that?” My heart beats fast. “Who’s there?” Silence. Only birds singing far away. But the voice stayed in my head, quiet but sure. “Find your truth, child of the Moon.” My knee shook and I fell beside the stone and touched my chest, my heartbeat felt too loud and my hands were trembling. “Am I going mad?” I whispered. A small flash crossed my eyes, just for a second, but it was so real and I saw fire. I saw my mother screaming my name and I saw a man with silver hair carrying a baby through smoke. Then everything faded and I breathed hard. “That… that was me.” Mira’s voice called from far away. “Lyra! Lyra, are you out here again?” I wiped my face quickly. “I’m coming!” I ran through the trees, my heart was still racing and my hands wouldn’t stop shaking. When I reached the mansion, Mira was waiting near the kitchen door. “Where did you go? Head Omega has been looking for you since dawn.” “I just… went to see my mother.” She frowned. “You look pale.” “I’m fine.” She studied me for a second, then sighed. “You always say that.” I followed her inside and the omegas rushed around preparing food for the Alpha warriors. Today, they were training outside and I heard the sounds of growls and metal hitting. Mira whispered, “Stay away from the training field. You know how they treat us.” But I couldn’t, something in me pulled toward the noise, toward the power outside and I slipped out quietly. The sun was high and the warriors were lined up, fighting in pairs. Alpha Kian stood in front of them, shirtless, sweat running down his skin and his body moved like it was made of fire and steel and every command he gave made the warriors tremble. He turned fast, punched one man to the ground, and shouted, “Again!” The others bowed their heads and continued. I hid behind a tree, and watched, I shouldn’t be here, but I couldn’t look away, he moved like he owned the air itself, he was strong, sharp and cold. Then his head turned suddenly and his eyes met mine and I froze. For a moment, the world felt quiet and everything stopped, the shouting, the fighting, even the wind and his gaze locked with mine, and my breath caught.. He walked toward me slowly. “What are you doing here?” His voice was deep and low. “I..I was just passing..” “You were watching.” His lips curled into a small cold smile. “You like seeing your Alpha fight?” I shook my head fast. “No. I mean… I didn’t mean to..” He stepped closer until I could smell his scent again, pine, smoke, and danger and his eyes were dark, unreadable. “Did no one teach you where you belong, omega?” he said. My fingers tightened around my dress. “I’m sorry, Alpha. I will go.” He studied me for a long moment. “You always say sorry. Does it make you feel safe?” His words stung and my throat burnt, but I kept my voice calm. “It makes people stop hitting me.” He blinked once, like my answer surprised him and then his eyes softened..only for a second, before they turned cold again. “Go back to work.” “Yes, Alpha.” I bowed quickly and turned, but as I did, our arms brushed slightly, just a small touch. And then it happened. Something sharp ran through me, like lightning under my skin and my heart jumped, my legs almost gave out. Kian steps back fast, his jaw tight. He looks at me strangely, like he felt it too. I breathe hard. “What—what was that?” His eyes flashed with something fierce, something confused and he opened his mouth to speak, then closed it. “Leave,” he said finally and his voice sounded rougher now. I nodded and walked away fast, holding my chest and my heart wouldn’t stop beating wildly. My body felt hot, strange, alive in a way I have never felt. Inside me, something moved, a whisper, soft but real. A voice. “Lyra…” I stopped walking and my eyes widened. That voice again. Inside my head. My wolf and for the first time in my life, she was awake. The Night of the Ceremony The night sky shone like silver and the full moon sat right above the field, glowing so bright it felt alive. I held a tray of drinks and moved among the pack members and my hands shook a little, but I forced myself to smile. I was only here to serve, not to be seen. Music played and laughter filled the air and everyone looked perfect, except me and my dress was plain, my shoes were old. Omegas like me didn’t belong here, but Alpha Kian said everyone must attend. “Lyra! You’re spilling the wine!” Mira whispered sharply, grabbing my wrist. “Sorry,” I mumbled, straightening the tray. She sighed “Just keep your head down, alright? You look like you’re about to faint.” “I’m fine,” I said even though my heart beat too fast and my skin felt hot, like something inside me wanted to break free. Alpha Kian stood on the stage, he was tall and serious and his eyes scanned the crowd. When they brushed over me, my chest tightened and I dropped my gaze. The Beta steps forward and spoke. “Tonight, under the full moon, the goddess reveals true mates. Step forward when you feel the call.” People began to move and the air hummed. The moonlight grew stronger, and spilled down like water and then suddenly, it touched me. A gasped escaped my lips and the light burnt on my skin, bright and hot and my tray fell. Cups shattered on the ground. “Lyra!” Mira cried, but her voice sounded far away. Everyone turned to look at me and the moonlight wrapped around my body, swirling, glowing and my arms trembled. I couldn’t move and then, something bright shaped itself on my wrist, a small mark, shining like fire. “She’s marked by the Moon Goddess!” someone shouted. The light moved again, and stopped right on Alpha Kian and a dead silence fell. The crowd parted as he stepped down from the stage and his eyes were locked on mine. My whole body trembled and my breathing stopped. “No,” someone whispered “That’s impossible. An omega?” Alpha Kian stopped in front of me and his scent hit me, it was strong, dark, powerful and my knees felt weak. He looked at me like I was dirt and his voice was low, cold. “You.” My lips parted, but no sound came out and the light between us pulsed harder, pulling me toward him. I felt it, the bond. It burnt in my chest and I could hear my heartbeat in my ears. Kian’s jaw tightened and his hands curled into fists. “This can’t be,” one of the pack elders muttered. Kian looked down at me and his voice cut through the air. “I, Alpha Kian Blackthorn, reject you.” The words hit me and I dropped to my knees. Pain tore hrough my chest and I clutched my heart, gasping and then the bond ripped apart inside me, and I screamed. Laughter broke around me, it was cruel, sharp, endless. “Did you hear that? The Alpha’s mate is a servant!” “How disgusting!” “She deserves it!” I could barely breathe and the pain burnt through every bone. Mira ran toward me, but guards held her back. “Kian, please!” she shouted. “She’s bleeding!” But Kian didn’t look at me and he turned his back and walked away. The moonlight flared again, brighter, angry, like it was alive and the ground shook and the wind rose howling. People stopped laughing and fear filled their faces. The moon glowed so bright it turned the whole sky white and I lifted my head weakly. My skin was still burning, and my tears shone under the light. And then… The moon exploded into a violent blaze above us and everyone screamed. The last thing I saw before darkness took me was the mark on my wrist glowing again, brighter, stronger, and alive.
