Chapter Seven - This should be interesting

772 Words
Walking into chem class with Jacob I see two open seats. I’m sure Jacob already has an assigned partner so I’m a little nervous who I’ll end up with. Jacob looks apologetic but walks to his table to sit next to his partner. I walk to the empty seat across the isle. Leg jumping under the table, nerves settling in my stomach. I look up just in time to see Edward sit next to me. My breath catching I look down at the table. I’m never gonna escape all these new feelings with Jacob and Edward constantly around. Now I have to sit next to Edward in not one, but two classes. In that moment I realize I’m still wearing Edward’s jacket and start to take it off to give it back. As I’m pulling one arm out his hand reaches out to stop me. I look up startled. “You can keep it. In case you get cold again” I just stare at him dumbly. Then nod okay and go back to staring at the table. Wondering if Jacob has noticed what’s going on over here I look over at him. He’s not looking completely murderous. He does look a little agitated though. I give him a smile so he knows I’m okay and he smiles back. Just then I hear Edward chuckle under his breath. Can laughs be beautiful? Because I’m immediately drawn to the sound. I want to hear it again. I look over at him and see a small smile on his face. “What’s funny?” I ask, voice low. “It’s nothing. Just your friend doesn’t seem to like me very much.” “He’s harmless, honest. I think he’s just being protective because I’m new here. I’ve known Jacob since we were kids.” He hums at that. Smiling he says “I don’t think that’s the only reason.” He seems entertained by Jacobs interest in me. I flick another glance at Jacob again. He’s still staring. Eyes flicking between me and Edward. I stand and walk over to him. “Hey you okay Jake? You seem a little upset.” I rest my hand over his. Feeling the little electric tingles again. I pull my hand back, wondering if he felt it too. He’s staring down at where I touched him. Lightly shaking his head he says “I’m fine Bi, everything’s okay. Promise.” He smiles that brilliant dimpled smile. Giving me a little push back to my table. “Go sit down, the teacher will be in in a second.” I sit back down and look at Edward again. He’s still got a smile on his face. His eyes look to me and I feel like I could drown in them. Two pools of melted gold. Before I can stop myself I blurt out “your eyes are beautiful.” Then promptly slap a hand over my mouth and turn about twenty shades of pink. Oh my God. I can’t believe I just said that! What the hell is wrong with me. Way to go Bianca he’ll think your insane now. “Yours are too. Breath taking actually” I drop my hand and feel my mouth drop open too. Just then the teacher walks in and I face the front. Trying to pay attention. Nerves completely on edge. and dying of embarrassment. The rest of class we remain mostly silent. Edward makes small comments about what we’re working on. I glance at Jacob a lot. He’s already looking at me 90% of the time. That sends a small thrill through me. How can I be attracted to both of them? Equally. Feels impossible but it’s definitely happening. Doesn’t really matter anyway. Jacob may be a little flirty but he’s just looking out for me. Being friendly. Edward I’m not sure about. That also seems like a small chance in hell. So I’m just going to try and focus on making friends. Doing my school work and getting through this year. and hiding my secret. The bell rings on that last thought. I stand and gather my things. Edward slips something into his jacket pocket; that I’m still wearing. Then he’s out the door. Just before I reach into the pocket to check Jacob walks up next to me. “Ready to head out? I’ll give you a ride home.” Smiling, I nod and he grabs my hand this time. Instead of my arm. and I look up at him, my eyes the size of saucers. Small tingles shooting through my hand. Maybe he’s not just being friendly?
