Edward and Jacob both look shocked. Eyes wide, mouths dropped open.
“You’re a what?” Jacob asks. Glancing at Edward and then back to me.
“A banshee.” I whisper, looking down.
“Well f**k. No wonder the Gods decided to give you two Mates.” Edward says, clear disbelief in his voice.
My eyes shoot back to them. “Why?”
“Banshees are rare Bianca. Very few left in the supernatural world. I honestly thought they had gone extinct.” Edward says.
“I still don’t understand. Why would they be extinct. My mother an I are both banshees. She never made it seem like a rare thing. Just that I needed to be careful and hide my gift.”
“Bianca, little one. They were hunted to the brink of extinction and then the few remaining went into hiding.” Jacob says, voice soft.
“Who hunted them? I ask, my eyes flicking between Edward and Jacob quickly.
“A faction of supernatural hunters. They hunted all of us. They went after banshees the hardest though. They figured out a weakness they had. Iron. Made iron bullets and killed as many as they could find.”
I stumble backwards. My knees going weak. He was right, iron was a weakness. I had no idea it went this deep, this darkly twisted world. No wonder my mother hid it from me. She was trying to protect me, let me have a normal childhood.
I take in deep dragging breaths. My chest tighter than it’s been the whole night. My knees finally giving out. Landing hard.
Jacob and Edward both stand quickly and are next to me in an instant.
Edward pulling me into his arms my chest pressed to his. Breathing in his scent.
Jacob cocoons me from behind. Stroking my back. Them calming me. Bring me peace.
“We will protect you Bianca. Always. This is why the Gods gave you two Mates. It answers everything. The Gods knew you would need protection. What better protection than a Vampire and a Werewolf.” Jacob says.
“Do you think they’ll come after me?” I say when my breathing has finally calmed.
“Not if we keep you hidden. We’ll do everything we can to make sure they NEVER find you.” Edward says fiercely. Pulling me even tighter to his chest.
I lean my head back looking up at him, then over my shoulder at Jacob. Adoration on their faces. Knowing it’s reflected back from my own.
“Am I supposed to feel this intensely about you both already?” I ask, worried I’m already falling in love and it’s only been two days.
Edward smiles softly down at me “It’s normal little one. We already feel quite intensely about you ourselves.”
“Agreed. It’s apart of the Mate bond.” Jacob says, voice a little deeper and raspier.
“Now, before we put you to bed. Should you tell us your gifts so we know how to help you manage them?” Jacob asks.
“Oh. Yes I guess so. My mom taught me a lot about managing them, but I still have my days. It has a lot to do with my anxiety.” I say, nuzzling back into Edward’s neck.
“We seem to have the ability to calm you, so maybe we can help with the anxiety part.” I hear Edward say as my eyes start to droop. Sleep creeping up on me.
“She’s too tired right now. She’s taken in a lot of information. Let her sleep.” I hear Jacob say behind me.
I feel my body being lifted, and carried. Then my body makes contact with the soft mattress. I feel the bed dip on either side of me. Warmth enveloping me.
A few seconds later sleep drags me under.
