POV: Elena Beep. Beep. Beep. She's stable, someone said. I could hear other voices, but they seemed far away. I did not want to hear voices. Maybe if I went back to sleep, it would all go away. Beep. Beep. Beep. I was up again. What was that beautiful smell? Had someone brought roses? They smelled so nice. Thank you, kind person. People were not usually kind to me these days. Beep. Beep. Beep. That sound was so annoying. I would open my eyes. Somehow my eyes did not want to open. People were arguing again, and I thought someone had brought more flowers. I wanted to open my eyes, but it felt like something was covering them. I could not move either. Why couldn't I move? Beep. Beep. Beep. I slowly peeled my eyes open — just a sliver. The light was bright, but my eyes were adjusting.
