The Day I Lost It All

POV: Elena School was going by as fast as I had hoped. My gamma classes were advanced, but that had never been an issue for me — I was an A student. My dad would expect nothing less. There I was, sitting at a lunch table by myself since Jen was in her beta junior classes, and I did not associate with anyone else here other than her. I was sitting eating an apple when suddenly David and Marcus decided to sit at my table. I looked around, wondering why they had chosen this table. Lynx must still have been in class. David was looking at me with an annoyed look in his eyes, and Marcus was looking at me with his usual smile and beautiful blue eyes. David made an annoying sound with his mouth, and my eyes drifted back to him. I looked him straight in the eye. He was letting off his alpha aura, trying to intimidate me, but it was not working. I assumed it was because I did not have my wolf yet. Once he realized I would not lower my head, his eyes widened for a second — what looked like shock — before he went back to being annoyed. "Move, b***h. You're sitting at our table," he said. "I was here first," I told him calmly. I was not trying to start anything, but he would not intimidate me that easily. Usually, people would cower and leave, but I was the gamma's daughter. There was not much he could do to me without my dad finding out. "There are plenty of other tables in here, so you can choose from those and leave me in peace." I could hear gasps from some of the people around us. Marcus started to laugh, and I swear it was like music to my ears. I could not help but smile a little and blush. Why was he so damn handsome? David, however, was fuming, and he stood up. Everyone in the cafeteria went quiet and stared. I held his gaze as I ate my sandwich. "How dare you disrespect your alpha, you fat slut? Get the f**k away before I make you," he threatened, using his alpha voice. Fat slut? Coming from the man w***e? This was rich. I should have chosen that moment to walk away. I did not. I stood up too. "I don't care if you're an alpha — I was here first. I have never done anything to you, and you come to my table and disrespect me. So how about you move to another table and leave me alone?" At that point I was nearly fuming, and he staggered back for a second as if I had just pushed him. However, he was an alpha, and even as that last word left my mouth, I knew I was in trouble. Marcus had not said a word the entire time but kept looking at me with what looked like pride. David started to growl, making himself look terrifying. I admitted to myself that I sat back down after a moment — afraid, but holding my ground. David had already gotten his wolf, so what I had just said was messing with his alpha nature. He shook his head and whispered something to Marcus, which wiped the smile from Marcus's face. Before I could register what was happening, David had me and was running down the hall at a speed invisible to human eyes, with Marcus right behind him. I kicked and screamed for him to let me go. I started to panic even more when I realized we had just entered the boys' restroom. "Hold her down," I heard David growl, using his alpha voice. Marcus had no choice but to listen, but he tried to change David's mind about whatever he was about to do. "Don't do this — she is the gamma's daughter," Marcus said. His deep voice made me slightly calmer, but I was still screaming for help. David shot him a look that clearly said, shut the f**k up. "Shut up, b***h," David said, punching me in the stomach. I hunched over, but Marcus held me upright. David then gripped me by the throat. It felt like he was crushing me. "You think I care that you're the gamma's daughter? You think you're better than me, w***e?" He tore my shirt, leaving my bra exposed. "You're nothing but a stupid f*****g human who doesn't know her place," he said, following with a punch to my face. "Drop her," the alpha commanded Marcus. Marcus let me go, and I fell to the floor. I could see blood coming from my nose. He kicked me while I was on the floor, back-to-back, as I covered my head, until I heard Marcus stop him — yelling that was enough and pulling him off me. David got down on the ground and pulled my face toward him. "You tell anyone about this and I'll f*****g kill you," he said. He then picked me up, carried me through the empty gym, and tossed me out the back door. I felt my vision fading as my head hit the concrete, and the last thing I managed was a small "help" as I looked at Marcus. He gave me a sad look before going back inside with David. Then everything went black. I could see the goddess from my dream the night before. She was mouthing words, but I could not make them out. I suddenly opened my eyes and looked around. It looked like I was in a bedroom. My bedroom. I looked at the clock and saw that school was still in session. My body was in so much pain, and I could not speak. My throat hurt terribly. Our family doctor, Laura, was sitting by my bed. Once she saw I was awake, she began asking me questions about who had done this to me. I remembered David's words and started crying, shaking my head, unable to answer her. "Okay, we will try again later," she said. I looked at her, wanting to know how I had gotten home but unable to ask. Luckily, she could tell. "Someone from school found you lying on the ground behind the gym. They took you to the school nurse, who patched you up and brought you home. I've just let your father know you're awake." I heard dad rushing upstairs, and the door flew open, relief on his face. "Baby girl, who did this?" he said, his eyes flashing black. I could tell he was trying to contain his wolf. "She can't talk right now," Dr. Laura said. "Her throat was gripped tight enough to damage her vocal cords. It may be a while before she can speak again." "f**k this — I'm contacting Alpha Ned." My eyes went wide, and I gripped his hand and shook my head. Even though I knew the alpha would never punish his own son, I knew David would carry out his threat and kill me. "Why not, Elena?" my dad pressed. I started to tear up, and his face softened. "Okay, sweetie, but you will find a way to tell me later, okay?" I nodded my head. "I will be back to check on you," Dr. Laura said. Dad kissed my head, and I felt myself drifting back to sleep, letting the drowsiness take me. I could see the goddess again, and she was closer now. The meadow was just as beautiful as it had been before. "Stay strong, Elena. Remember — you are strong, and your time will come. Be patient," she said, turning and walking away. "Wait — what do you mean?" I called after her. It felt like a warning, but I could not seem to move my feet to reach her. I watched as she turned into the largest white wolf I had ever seen. She looked back at me and howled. I was shaken awake by someone shouting. It was Dr. Laura. "Wake up, Elena — we are being attacked by rogues," she said, panicking. I darted out of bed, still in tremendous pain, but I knew I was not safe. I limped downstairs and saw my father, half-shifted into his wolf form, fighting off rogues attempting to break in. "Dad," I tried to yell, but I was still unable to speak. Three other pack warriors were trying to kill the rogues, but I could tell my dad was taking the most damage — the other three pack wolves looked like they were about to give out. A rogue got past and injured Dr. Laura. I grabbed a knife from the kitchen and threw it to stop it. It went straight through the rogue's head. I did not even know I could do that. My dad leaped back and looked at me, gave a quick nod of thanks, and turned to go back to the fight — but then looked past me and ran to kill the rogue I had not heard sneaking up on my other side. I jumped out of the way just in time, and my dad caught it mid-air by the throat before it could reach me. However, my dad breaking rank on the far side with the three warriors caused the rogues to push through. My dad shifted back to human form. "Hide, Elena," he said. "They are coming for you," he told me while fighting a rogue with his spear. Dr. Laura pointed to a large cabinet, and I ran to it. I hid in the cabinet, trying not to cry from how much pain all of this was causing me. I peeked out through the crack, only to see Dr. Laura killed by a blow to her head. I could see my mom sitting on the couch as if nothing was happening. Was she not afraid? She caught my eyes, and hers widened. "Come on, Mom," I mouthed, trying to get her to come into the cabinet with me. She eyed me with a wicked gleam, and suddenly I was afraid and confused. A rogue came from behind her and, surprisingly, walked right past her. "There she is right there," my mom said, pointing at me. The rogue looked at me and growled. He came at me, and luckily, my dad arrived just in time to injure its legs before it reached me. He looked at my mom in horror as she smiled at him, and suddenly everything happened in slow motion. As he turned toward my mom, the rogue whose legs he had injured hopped up on its hands and jumped onto my dad's back. My dad gripped the rogue by its arms and flipped it over his right shoulder — and mid-air, the rogue twisted my dad's head from his body while at the same time my dad tore out its heart. My dad's head rolled toward me as it was wrenched free. I tried to scream, but I could only make a small sound as I stared at it. My mom's head snapped to the side as though she heard something, and she called to the rogues, ordering them to retreat. They obeyed instantly. But my focus was on my father's head. His eyes were still open, looking directly at me. The two warriors who remained turned around, but they were not fast enough — my mom tore out their hearts. I watched the gruesome sight. The rogues had taken their lives, and then my mom sprayed some sort of aerosol before extending her claws from her left hand. She stepped toward me, picked up my father's head, and yanked me out of the cabinet. I tried to fight her off, but I was powerless. My body was still broken from earlier, and I was helpless. I closed my eyes, ready to join my father. But instead of killing me, my mother shoved me to the ground. She then took her claws and slashed herself across the face, stomach, and shoulder, and fell beside me — placing my father's head right next to me — and smirked. Not even ten seconds later, Pack Alpha Ned came crashing through the door with David, Lynx, Marcus's father Jed, and Marcus. My mom started panting as I tried to crawl away from her. "She shifted, killed her father, the warriors, and scratched me," my mom said. I shook my head and pointed at my mom, desperately trying to tell them she had set this all up. They looked at my dad's decapitated head, the fallen guards, and my mom, and then back to me — and one by one, every expression turned to horror. My mom had known I could not defend myself. She had timed it perfectly, knowing I could not speak. It was at that moment I understood that no one would ever believe me. I looked to Marcus, pleading with my eyes — begging him to know I had not done this. But his father stepped in front of him, eyeing me with a look of pure contempt. I expected the alpha to kill me without hesitation, but instead, he spoke the words that would drive my life further into hell. "Take her to the dungeons."
