Up In The Stars

Later that night somewhere far away up in the stars was a handsome nineteen-year-old star boy named Leo Galaxy who was minding his own business until suddenly there was a knock on his front door. As he went to answer the front door his father already did and to his surprise it was the leader of his people. Galaxia their Queen then said, “sorry for the intrusion but I have a job for your eldest son.” Leo then said, “what type of job do you need me for your majesty?” Queen Galaxia then said, “my first-born daughter who is half human half Starian has passed away and her daughter is about to find out a lot of hard stuff and I need you to be there for her.” Leo then said, “of course your majesty.”

Queen Galaxia then said, “thank you Leo here is a file about everything you need to know about her.” Leo then said, “of course your majesty.” Hours later Steve, Leah and I were out the front about to all leave when Leah said, “I hope you both have a great day, and I will see you later.” I then gave her a hug and said, “I hope you have a good day as well.” Steve and I then got into the car and headed off to school. Once we got to school, we walked into the office and that was when I saw him, he had black hair with speckles of white and the most beautiful eyes they were blue with specks of purple in them. I then noticed that he had a similar mark on his arm like mine. Suddenly he walks up to me and said, “cute smile.” I then blushed a little and said, “thank you.”

Steve then came up to me and said, “the office has changed your details so you can head off to your homeroom and I will see you in first period.” I then said, “ok thank you Mr Johnson for all of your help.” Steve then said, “your very welcome Luna.” I then turned around to tell the boy my name, but he was gone. Soon enough it was time for first period and so I walked into the English classroom and went and sat in my regular seat when suddenly Hayley walks into the classroom and sat on the other side of the room. Steve then came up to me and grabbed the chair next to me and he said, “the deputy principal said that she will only be in this class with you because she needs more help with English, and this was the only class she could be changed into.”

I then smiled and said, “that’s fine I know that she won’t say anything to me while being in this class.” Steve then smiled and said, “good.” He then pushed the chair he was sitting on back in and walked up to the front of the class. Suddenly the boy from earlier walked into the room and Steve said, “class can I have your attention please I wanted to introduce you to our new student and wanted him to tell us something about himself.” Leo then smiled and said, “of course sir hi my name is Leo and I just moved here from overseas to live with my sister.” Steve then said, “you can go and sit in one of the spare chairs.” Hayley suddenly put her hand up and said, “Mr Johnson Leo can come and sit next to me.” Steve then said, “that is kind of you Hayley.” Leo then said, “thanks for the offer but I think I’m going to sit next to dimples.”

I then smiled and said, “sure if that’s what you want speckles.” He then smiled as he walked up and sat next to me and I said, “my name is Luna Covington.” He shook my hand and said, “Leo Galaxy nice to meet you.” Steve then said, “well Luna since you are the top of the class would you like to catch Leo up on what’s happening.” I then said, “of course Mr Johnson.” Soon enough the first two periods in English were over and it was time for first break and so I headed off to my favourite place to sit when suddenly Hayley called out saying, “hey druggo why are you even still at this school nobody here wants you here.” As I was about to say something back Leo came up and said, “Kayley, was it? Why don’t you go and bully someone who cares.”

Hayley then said, “it’s Hayley and I’m just reminding Luna here that we don’t like her type being here.” Leo then said, “how about we get out of here dimples?” I then smiled and said, “I think that’s a good idea speckles bye Kayley.” Hayley then started to scream as we walked off.” Leo then said, “where are we headed dimples?” I then said, “we are going to my favourite place in this town.” Leo then said, “sounds like fun.” Five minutes later we arrive to a bush track and Leo said, “are you sure we aren’t lost?”

I then smiled and said, “just wait and you will see.” Leo then jokingly said, “if this is my last time on the Earth, please let me have a dying kiss.” I then laughed and said, “look up.”

So, Leo looked up and saw a tree house and he said, “how did you find this place?” I then said, “my mum and I built this when I was younger.” Leo and I then climbed up and sat down on the blankets that I left there. Leo then said, “so do you want to talk about what happened back there with Kayley?” I laughed and said, “Hayley was my best friend but once the holidays were over, she was talking about me behind my back.” Leo then said, “I’m sorry to hear that nobody should have to go through that.” I then smiled and said, “its ok my mum taught me that I don’t need to have friends to be happy.”

Leo then said, “well I hope that doesn’t include me dimples.” I then smiled and said, “I might be able to make an exception for you and is it ok if I ask you a couple of questions?” Leo then said, “well thank stars for that and sure.” I then said, “so where did you move to?” Leo then said, “I moved in with my sister and her partner at her family farm.” I then smiled and said, “I live next door to Sally’s farm.” Leo then said, “that’s my sisters’ girlfriend.” I then smiled and said, “there is only one farm in this town, so it wasn’t very hard to guess, and my last question is where did that mark on your arm come from?” Leo then looked down to his arm and he said, “where I’m from we all have similar birthmarks.”

I then smiled and said, “well I think it makes you look cool, and we should be headed back to school unless you want to skip this period.” Leo then laughed and said, “I don’t think that would be a smart idea for the new boy and the top student to do.” Hours later school has finally finished and as I was walking out of my class Steve walked up to me and said, “Luna I am so sorry but I have to stay back for a meeting so I can’t drive you home.” I then smiled and I said, “well I can wait for you if you like.” Steve then said, “I can’t ask you to do that.” I then smiled and said, “its fine I’m happy to wait.” Steve then said, “well the meeting should only go for an hour.”

I then said, “well I will meet you at the car in an hour.” Steve then said, “stay safe.” I then smiled at him and started walking off and as I was about to leave the school I hear, “dimples wait up.” I then turned around and smiled and said, “hey there speckles did you enjoy your first day of school?” Leo then smiled and said, “I liked my English class and a certain someone who made me feel welcome.” I then smiled and said, “your welcome speckles.” Leo then laughed and said, “oh it wasn’t you that made me feel welcome it was Kayley.” I then laughed and said, “well then if that’s so then I won’t invite you to hang out with me.” Leo then said, “I’m sorry I was only joking.” I then laughed and said, “you’re lucky I like you freckles.” Leo then said, “oh, oh does this mean I can make us best friend bracelets?”

I then laughed and said, “well if you want to speckles then sure knock yourself out.” Leo then said, “well just you wait for tomorrow dimples you will have one friendship bracelet.” I then smiled and said, “I can’t wait.” Suddenly Leo’s phone goes off and his smile fades away, so I said, “Leo is everything ok?” Leo gave me a small smile and said, “my sister just messaged me saying she can’t pick me up until later because the cows got out and that was the first time, I heard you call me Leo. I then said, “well I wanted to let you know that I was worried about you and well if you like we can walk home together even though it’s a thirty-minute walk or we can go to the treehouse, and you can come home with me when the meeting is over also is your sister Nova?”

Leo then said, “to the treehouse it is, and yeah have you met her?” I then said, “I will explain when we get to the treehouse.”

So, we walked to the treehouse, and I quickly messaged Steve saying, “hey Steve is it ok if Leo comes home with us because his sister can’t pick him up because there has been a cattle emergency.” Leo then said, “well are you going to explain?” as I was about to explain my phone buzzed and so I said, “one second.” I then checked my phone, and it was a message from Steve saying, “that’s fine just make sure that you are both at the car in thirty minutes.” I then sent Steve a thumbs up and I said, “sorry speckles that was just me confirming our ride.”

Leo then laughed and said, “that’s good now can you explain.” I then said, “yes now I can explain.” I then took a deep breath and that’s when Leo said, “does this have something to do with what happened to your mother?” I then said, “so, you have heard what happened to her.” Leo then said, “yes I did but I didn’t want to trust them until I heard it from you.” I then smiled and said, “well it’s true my mum had an overdose, but she was a good mum before the drugs.” Leo then said, “I just want to let you know that I know how you feel my mum passed away when I was five to an overdose on some chemical made drug.” I then gave him a hug and I said, “I’m so sorry.” He hugged me back and said, “it’s ok it was a long time ago.”

I then said, “I was on the run from Children protective services and that was when I bumped into your sister in the middle of the main street.” Leo then said, “let me guess she had a go at you?” I then said, “by the look of her face she was going to until she saw how I looked, and she saw my birth mark and she gave me one hundred dollars and when I asked her why she gave me the money she said that our people help each other when they need help.” Leos face then flicked with change for a second and then back to normal.I then said, “Leo do you know what she meant by that?”

Leo then looked at me and said, “yes but you won’t believe me at least not yet and until you find out more, I can’t say but what I can say right now is that I was asked to keep an eye out for you and to be there for you.” I then said, “who asked you to be there for me?” Leo then said, “I can’t say their name yet, but they are someone very powerful.” I then said, “Leo I know we just met but I trust you but promise me that when the time is right you will tell me.” Leo then said, “I promise.” I then smiled and I then grabbed my phone out and passed it to Leo and said, “give me your number speckles.” Leo then smiled and said, “sure.” So, he put his number in and saved it and then he got my camera up and said, “we need a photo for my contact photo and to coumarate our first day being best friends.”

I then smiled and said, “best friends and only friend also we need to get photos on your phone too then.” Leo then laughed and said, “deal.” So, once we took the photos on his phone and added my number to his phone, we had to run back to the school ground. Once we got to the car Steve walked out and said, “so it looks like that you too have become close.” Leo then said, “yep dimples and I here have become best friends.” Steve then laughed and said, “well I’m glad that you both have become friends since we are neighbours now.” I then said, “so am I, also is it ok if we drive up the road to mum’s house so I can get the blankets out of my cubby house and wash them to take back there tomorrow?” Steve then said, “yeah that’s fine.”

So, we quicky drove up to get my blankets and on the way back Steve said, “so Leo outside of school you can call me Steve but if you call me Steve in class, I will revoke this power I am giving you.” I then laughed and said, “what if I accidently call you Steve in class?” Steve then said, “well there wouldn’t be a consequence because we live with each other.” We then finally arrived home.

Once Leah heard the car, she ran out the front and gave me a hug and said, “how was your day at school Luna?” I then said, “it was good, and I met our new neighbour today.” Luna then smiled and walked up to him and shook his hand and said, “so you must be Nova’s little brother it’s so nice to meet you.”

Leo then said, “yeah that’s me and my name is Leo and it’s nice to meet you too.” I then said, “is it alright if Leo and I go for a walk to the creek in the back field?” Steve then said, “that’s fine but he needs to get permission from his sister even though I know you are both old enough to do things without permission, but this is just a safety situation.” Leo then said, “that’s fine I will call Nova now.” A few minutes later Leo came back saying that it was alright. So, together we walked up to the creek and once we sat down Leo said, “so, I’m guessing that Steve isn’t your dad.” I then said, “no, my mum never told me who my dad is so, maybe he was just a one-night stand.” Leo then said, “do you think that your dad knows that you exists?”

I then said, “well there’s a fifty percent chance that he does but then there’s another fifty percent chance he doesn’t know.” Leo then said, “do you want to find your dad?” I then said, “a big part of me does but another part of me is scared to know the truth.” Leo then said, “well it’s up to you if you want to find out all you need to do is ask Steve or Leah if you can get an DNA test.” I then said, “I will have to think about it.” Leo then said, “that is completely fine now how about we go for a swim?” I then laughed and said, “I will go swimming with you speckles but only if you catch me first.” I then started running and suddenly I felt a strong pair of arms around me, and he lifted me up and ran into the creek with me in his arms.

I then laughed and said, “you are faster than you look.” Leo then said, “well dimples I was the top track star at my old school.” I then said, “well that explains it.” For the next hour we were swimming until Leo’s phone started ringing and so we got out and we both knew that it was nearly time for us to go our separate ways. So, we both walked back up to my doorstep and Leo said, “until tomorrow dimples.” I then laughed and said, “see you tomorrow speckles.” As I turned around Leah walks out with a towel and said, “here you go it looks like that you two had fun.” I then grabbed the towel and wrapped myself with it and said, “thank you and yeah Leo is my first friend since Hayley.”

Leah then said, “well I’m glad that you two have found each other then.” I then smiled and said, “I am too.” About four hours later I was in my room laying in my bed thinking about what Leo said about getting a DNA test when suddenly my phone buzzed and it was from Leo saying, “hey there dimples sorry for the late message, but I just wanted to say good night and how do you like this?” He then sent a photo of a friendship bracelet that had the letters L.C and L.G with a star bead in between. I then sent a message back saying, “hey speckles its fine and I absolutely love it and I made up my mind I am going to ask my caseworker tomorrow if she can get give me the DNA test, she said she would get me.”

Leo then messaged back saying, "well that is great and I am tired so I will talk to you tomorrow.” I then messaged back, “good night see you tomorrow.” Suddenly there was a knock at my door so, I said, “come in.” Steve then walked in and said, “sorry to interrupt but I just got a message from Bella, and she said, “that she will be coming in the morning, so we are going to be a little late to school.” I then said, “that’s fine I want to take that DNA test anyway.” Steve then smiled and said, “well if that’s what you want but I just want you to know whatever happens you will always have a place here.” I then smiled and gave him a hug and said, “thank you Steve.” He then said, “you are very welcome.”
