From Best Friends To Catching Feelings

Days after taking a DNA test Leo and I have been attached to the hip whether it was at school or at each other’s houses. But today was the day that I started looking at him in a different way. It was first break and once again Hayley came up to me and said, “hi dimples are you going to go and have your drugs like you always go and do?” Leo then came up from behind her and said, “hey Kayley only I can call her dimples so how about you go and get lost and go and talk crap about someone else.” Hayley then said, “you must be on drugs too if you are sticking up for her that’s probably why you hang out with each other every day.”

I then said, “isn’t this getting tiring Hayley saying the same stuff repeatedly and for what a seat with the “popular” girls who are going to stab you in the back when they are tired of you.” Hayley then said, “you don’t know what you are talking about.” I then said, “when they finally do it don’t come running back to me.” Leo then grabbed my hand and as we were about to leave Hayley yelled out, “hey everybody did you know that Leo’s mother died for the same reason that Luna’s mother died.” Leo then said, “how did you find that out?” Hayley then said, “I followed you to that treehouse.” I then walked up to her and got into her face, and I said, “so, you went on my property without my permission.”

Hayley then said, “get out of my face druggo.” I then turned around and I looked at how upset Leo was, and it made me snap and that was when I turned back around and headbutted Hayley in the face. Hayley then fell to the ground, and I grabbed Leo’s hand, and we started walking to the cubby house. Once we got to the tree house Leo said, “Luna why did you do that for?” I then said, “because I had enough, and she deserved it.” Leo then said, “aren’t you scared she’s going to go and tell the deputy?” I then said, “let her the deputy knows that she has been bullying me constantly and if I get suspended then it would only be for a few days since it would be my first suspension.” Leo then said, “next time promise me you will walk away.”

I then looked at him and I could tell that he was being serious and so I said, “ok I promise.” Leo then said, “thank you.” I then said, “how would you feel if we stayed here for the rest of the day until we have to go home?” Leo then said, “I think we both deserve the rest of the day off so why not, let me just message Nova, so she doesn’t kill me.” I then laughed and said, “Steve will message me once he finds out I’m not in class.” Leo then said, “I reckon he will understand.” I then said, “do you want to see my childhood house?” Leo then said, “sure but do you even have a key to get into the house?” I then smiled and said, “just follow me.” So, a few minutes later we arrived at the front porch of my childhood home, and I lifted the sign off the door and grabbed the key from behind it. Leo then said, “that’s smart.” I then said, “my mum was always working so I needed a way to get in.”

A few moments later I had opened the door and as we walked in all my childhood memories came flooding back. Leo then grabbed my hand and gave me an encouraging smile and said, “you can do this Luna.” I then squeezed his hand and smiled at him we then started walking towards the loungeroom and that was when we saw my mums old video camera on the coffee table. Leo then said, “please tell me that there is little Dimples videos on that.” I then laughed and said, “there should be little ones and some from the past couple of years on it yes.” Leo then said, “well what are we waiting for can we watch them?” I then grabbed the video camera and turned it on, and I said, “it looks like it only has enough charge to watch one video on it.”

Leo then said, “well let’s watch the first video on it.” So, I found the very first video and I said, “I haven’t watched these videos before but by the looks of it I was just a newborn baby.” I then pressed play and that was when we heard me crying and that was when suddenly we hear my mums voice saying, “shhh, shhh its ok Luna mummy’s here and I know that if I told your daddy that I was pregnant with you he would be here too.” As I was about to pause the video the camera went flat and that was when I said, “my mum actually knew who my dad was, but she didn’t tell me.” Leo then pulled me into a hug and said, “I’m so sorry Luna I know that this must be hurting you.” I then started crying and I said, “why didn’t she just tell me the truth?”

Leo then said, “I don’t know Luna, but she must have had her reasons.” I then said, “I know but now those reasons have left me with pain and a lot of questions.” Leo then said, “I know but I am going to be here for you, and I am going to help you as much as I can.” I then smiled and said, “thank you Speckles.” We then got up off the lounge and I grabbed the video camera’s charger and put it into a bag. I then said, “we should probably go now.” As we were about to leave Leo stopped and I turned around to see him looking at two photo frames one that had a picture of my mum and I when I was young and the other with a picture of us a few months before she died. Leo then said, “look how cute you were here Dimples.” I then laughed and said, “that was my third birthday.”

Leo then said, “well I think you should take both of these photo’s home with you.” I then said, “I don’t think I can I’m just so angry and upset with her right now.” Leo then said, “that might be true, but you still have love for her, and I know that you will regret not taking the photos with you.” I then said, “I know that your right so I will take them, but they are staying in this bag until I’m ready to see them.” Leo then said, “whatever you need to do.” As we stepped out of the house and after I locked the door my phone started buzzing and it was Steve trying to call me. So, I answered and said, “hi Steve.” Steve then said, “Luna where are you is everything ok?” I then said, “something happened with Hayley and so I needed to get away from her.”

Steve then said, “where are you and I will come pick you up.” I then said, “I’m fine Leo is with me.” Steve then said, “I’m still coming to pick both of you up.” I then said, “we will be at the treehouse.” Steve then said, “I will be there in five minutes.” Leo then said, “are we in trouble?” I then said, “I don’t think he’s angry I just think he is worried.” Leo then said, “so, I guess we are going to the treehouse.” I then said, “yeah Steve will be there in a few minutes.” Leo then said, “well we better get going then.” So, we both started running down to the treehouse and as we got there Steve was pulling up. Steve then got out of the car and pulled me into a hug and said, “are you ok?”

I then hugged him back and I said, “I’m just sick of Hayley saying the same things every day and now she thinks its ok to follow Leo and I and to use our private conversations against us.”Steve then let go of me and said, “if you both like to go to the principal about this we can.” As I was about to say something Steve’s phone started ringing and he saw that it was the school. So, he answered and said, “hi this is Steve speaking how can I help you?” a few moments later he said, “what why what has happened?” l couple of minutes later he said, “ok we will be there in a few minutes thank you.” Steve then turned around to face me and said, “Luna you headbutted Hayley!” I then said, “I know I shouldn’t have done it, but I just snapped.”

Steve then said, “well you are suspended for the rest of the week.” Leo then said, “I’m sorry Steve I should have stopped her, but it was too late.” Steve then said, “I’m not mad that it happened but next time please both of you just walk away.” I then said, “I promise I will walk away if it gets that heated again.” Leo then said, “and I will make sure she keeps that promise.” Steve then laughs and says, “thanks Leo but now we need to go and pick up the rest of your work for the week.” So, we drove down to the school to pick up my schoolwork and on the way home from school Leo said, “it’s going to be weird going to school without you.”

I then said, “I know it’s going to be weird not being able to see you most of the day and you better not get a new best friend while I’m away.” Leo then dramatically gasps and says, “I would never replace you with anybody you’re the only person I need in my life Dimples.” I then laughed and said, “you better be telling the truth Speckles.” Leo then said, “I swear on all the stars that I am telling the truth Dimples.” Steve then started laughing and jokingly said, “why don’t you both get married already.” Leo then said, “maybe one day we will.” I then laughed and said, “well I could do worse than you.” Leo then said, “and we don’t want that now do we.” As I was about to say something the car stopped, and I saw Leah already waiting for us to get back.

As I got out of the car Leah ran up to me and gave me a hug I then said, “so, I’m not in trouble?” Leah then said, “while I don’t condone violence, I’m proud of you for sticking up for yourself and Leo.” I then said, “I promise I won’t do it again.” Steve then said, “let’s just hope Bella doesn’t try and take you away from us.” I then said, “if she does, I will tell her that it was my fault and you guys didn’t condone it.” Leo then said, “I don’t think they will take her away.” A week later Steve came to my room and knocked on my door so, I answered it and Steve said, “Luna your test results came in the mail today.” I then said, “did you tell Bella?” Steve then said, “yes I did, and she said she will be coming around this afternoon.”
