Happy Birthday Dimples

It’s been over a month since I’ve seen my best friend and it is also the morning of my eighteenth birthday. Suddenly there was a knock at my door, so I answered it and Leah was there. I then said, “good morning, Leah.” Leah then said, “good morning sweetheart happy birthday.” I then walked up to her and gave her a hug and said, “thank you Leah.” Leah then said, “your welcome also the postie has been here for you.” So, we both walked down to the kitchen where Steve was cooking breakfast and he said, “there’s my birthday girl.” I then said, “good morning.” Steve then said, “I hope you like omelettes because that is what we are having.” I then laughed and that was when I saw a small package on the bench and that was when I said, “is that for me?”

Leah then said, “yes, it is.” She then passed it to me and so, I took it out to the loungeroom and as soon as I opened it the first thing that I saw was a letter. So, I picked it up and as soon as I saw the handwriting, I started crying the letter was from my mum. After I wiped away my tears, I started reading the letter which said, “my dearest Jellybean I know you must be wondering how this is possible. well as you should know I’m no longer around and so, I made my lawyer hold onto this letter and these gifts for your eighteenth birthday. You also deserve to know the truth… I was dying from a rare cancer, and I knew that I couldn’t die like that and so I died on my own terms. I am so sorry that I didn’t tell you until now, but I wasn’t strong enough.

In this package I leave you with a few things that I know that you will look after and that I hope you can share with your future kids.

the first thing I leave you is all the land I own and our house. I also know how much you loved my motorbike and so I leave you with both my motorbike and my car but please get a responsible adult to teach you how to drive. My last two presents I want to give to you is something I know that you have been wanting for a very long time and so, it’s time you know the truth. My sweet Jellybean your father’s name is Steve Johnson, and he was my next-door neighbour. At first, we didn’t get a long, but both our dads were best friends and once we were in high school, we started getting along.

Your father was the first man I have ever loved, and he had big dreams to be a teacher and when I found I was pregnant with you I knew that he would keep his dreams on hold, and I didn’t want him to not follow his dreams. So, when I told my dad I was pregnant with you, and he kicked me out for wanting to keep you I thought that it was a sign to move to a new town to start fresh and that was went my aunty bought me our house and the surrounding lands. I hope you can forgive me for not telling you who your father was, but I didn’t want to watch you get hurt but I want you to keep this bikers’ jacket he bought me for my eighteenth birthday.

Jellybean I give you this information about your father so, you can find him if you want to and if not, that is fine as well it’s up to you, I also want you to know that I will always be with you and I will be watching you grow, fall in love, get married, having kids and everything else you decide to do I love you with my whole heart until we meet again mum." Once I finished reading the letter, I placed it on the lounge and the first thing I picked up was a keyring that had all three keys on them with a charm that has Jellybean written on. I then picked up a piece of paper and it had written on it, “ownership of house and land.” Written under that is, “Luna Johnson.” Once I read that I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw that my last name on the deed was Johnson.

Suddenly Steve called out, “Luna breakfast is ready also we have a letter here for you.” I then walked out, and Leah handed me my letter while Steve placed my plate of food down on the table. As soon as I had the letter in my hands, I opened it and in it was my new birth certificate and my new photo ID. Steve then said, “you better eat your food before it goes cold.” I then smiled and said, “I already knew this before this letter even got here but I’m officially Luna Johnson.” As soon as Steve turn around to look at me he had the biggest smile on his face and he quickly picked me up and put me on his shoulders and he started screaming, “my daughter finally has my last name!”

A minute later he places me back down and what we both didn’t realise was that Leah was recording us that whole time. I then said, “I love how excited you were when I told you.” Steve then said, “well of course I’m excited.” Leah then said, “well let’s eat breakfast.” Five minute later we were finished breakfast and so, I said, “I hope you don’t mind if I finish looking through my present that I received.” Leah and Steve both then said, “of course not we will be in once we finished cleaning up.” So, I then walked back out to the loungeroom, and I pulled out the last thing that was left in the box and it was Steve’s biker jacket that he gave mum and when I unfolded it something fell out of it. It was a photo and once I turned it around it was a picture of mum and Steve on a motorbike which I am thinking was Steve’s.”

I then put the jacket on, and it fitted me perfectly I then got up and placed all my other presents onto the coffee table. Once I knew what I was going to say to Steve I walked out to the kitchen where he was washing up and I said, “hey dad does this jacket look familiar to you and I wanted to know if you wanted to keep this photo or if you wanted a copy of it?” As I was saying that he stood in shock until he turned around and said, “did you just call me dad and I gave that jacket to your mum on her eighteenth birthday also what photo?” I then said, “yes dad I did and here.” Dad then took the photo from me and before he even looked at the photo, he pulled me into a hug and he said, “I love you Luna, you have made me the proudest dad in the world.”

I then said, “I love you too dad.” Leah then walked out and said, “did I just hear that correctly?” I then said, “yeah you did.” Leah then looked at dad’s face, and she said, “how do you feel dear I know you have been waiting for her to call you dad.” Dad then said, “I feel like the luckiest man in the world that I get to have a wife like you and a daughter like Luna.” Dad then let go of me and he looked at the photo and said, “this photo was taken on my nineteenth birthday, and you should keep it.” I then said, “would you like a copy of it?” Leah then looked at the photo, and she said, “Steve, I think you should get a copy Ashley was the first person you ever loved, and you share a beautiful daughter together.” Dad then smiled and said, “well then I would love a copy of it.”

Leah then said, “we will get it copied tomorrow and I think we should give you your presents.” I then said, “you guys didn’t have to get me anything for my birthday.” Dad then said, “of course we did it’s your first birthday we get to celebrate with you.” Leah then said, “your presents will be out in the backyard.” So, we all walked out into the backyard and that was when I saw a kayak and a caravan. Dad and Leah then both said, “surprise!” I then said, “omg this is too much I can’t accept them.” Dad then said, “you have to because we aren’t taking them back.” I then said, “well in that case thank you both so much I am getting really spoiled this birthday.” Leah then said, “you deserve this and more.”

Dad then said, “I agree with Leah and was that jacket in that package you received?” I then said, “yes as well as a letter from my mum telling me that she was dying from a rare cancer and that was why she chose to overdose.” Leah and dad then both came and wrapped their arms around me, and they both said, “we are so sorry Luna.” I then said, “its ok I’m glad she got to go her way and that I didn’t have to see her sick and also she wrote that she has left the house and the surrounding lands to me including her car and her motorbike.” Leah then said, “so does that mean you’re moving out?” I then said, “I’m not planning on moving out any time soon but when the time is right, I will move back into my house.”

Dad then said, “well I hope you know that we will help you every step of the way.” Leah then said, “well how about we all go inside and play a board game or something.” I then said, “sure let’s go.” So, we all walked into the loungeroom, and sat down. Dad then said, “I need to go to the bathroom quickly.” Leah then said, “well while you go and do that I will go and grab a few board games.” Before I could even say anything, they were both gone. What I didn’t know was that dad and Leah was in on a big surprise and a few minutes later I could hear footsteps coming up from behind me and before I had the chance to turn around, I hear, “happy birthday Dimples.”

Quickly I turned around and that was when I saw Leo with tears in my eyes I ran up and jumped into his arms and said, “I thought you said you weren’t able to make it back in time for my birthday Speckles.” Leo then laughed and said, “well I wanted to surprise you and I wasn’t going to miss your special birthday.” A few minutes later he put me down and that was when dad said, “here you go Leo.” Leo then took a present from my dad, and he said, “it isn’t much, but I hope you like it.” I then opened the present and it was a handmade photo frame with the word Dimples on the right side of the frame and it had a picture of us in the treehouse hugging. I then said, “omg Leo I love this so much thank you.” Leo then smiled and said, “you are very welcome.”

Suddenly there was a knock on the door and that was when dad opened it and said, “I hope you guys are ready for lunch because we have pizza!” Leo and I both ran out to the kitchen table and sat down. Leah then laughed and said, “I am so glad that you could be here with us Leo.” Leo then said, “I am to thank you so much for helping keep this secret.” Dad then said, “well we know that it was going to be a lovely surprise.” We all then ate lunch, and we all went and started playing board games. Hours later dad and Leah walked up to Leo and I and dad said, “go on you two we know that you want to go to the treehouse.” Leah then said, “and if you both want to stay at your house tonight then we won’t stop you.”

I then gave them both a hug and I said, “thank you both so much!” Dad then said, “have fun you two but not too much fun.”

Leo and I both then laughed, and I said, “we will see you tomorrow.” We then walked out of the house, and we got into Nova’s car, and we drove off to my treehouse. Once we got there Leo locked Nova’s car and we climbed up to the ladder and into the treehouse. We then sat there in silence until I finally said, “Leo I know that face what’s wrong?” Leo then took a deep breath and said, “you know how I told you that I would tell you the secret of who wanted me to look out for you when the time was right.” I then said, “yeah I do.”

Leo then said, “well the person who told me didn’t say it was the right time, but I can’t keep this from you anymore even if I do lose you.” I then said, “Leo, you will never lose me.” Leo then said, “Luna I’m not from Earth.” Before he could say anything else I said, “you’re from a place in the stars, aren’t you?” Leo then looked at me surprised and he said, “yes I’m from a place called Starian and the person who told me to look out for you was your grandmother Queen Galaxia Way.” I then said, “wait I’m part Starian royalty.” Leo then said, “yes and I am so sorry I didn’t tell you until now and I understand if you don’t want to see me again.” I then said, “Leo calm down of course I want you in my life I am in love with you!”

Right after I said that Leo’s lips crashed onto mine and suddenly, I felt something powerful happen and that was when Leo pulled away and said, “did you feel that too?” I then said, “you mean that powerful surge?” Leo then said, “yeah that.” I then said, “what was it?” Leo then said, “I don’t know but we should go to Starian and ask Queen Galaxia.” I then said, “I agree but first I want to know is it true that you have powers?” Leo then laughed and said, “yes we do everyone has a special set of powers that only they can do.” I then said, “really well what type of power can you do?” Leo then said, “it’s not the best power but I have learned to like it.” I then said, “well can you show me?” Leo then said, “well since the stars are out, I can show you.”

Leo then closed his eyes and when he opened them back up the purple speckles in his eyes were glowing and he then lifted his hands and pointed them up to the stars. A few moments later when I looked up at the sky, I couldn’t believe my eyes. Leo made all the stars around us all different colours.

As I finished changing the colour of the stars, I looked at Luna and I love seeing how her face lit up with the biggest smile and with her eyes full of hope and wonder. I can’t believe that this one person can make me feel so much love. I can’t wait to see how our future is going to turn out and however it turns out I know that I am going to keep falling heads over heals for this girl.

Luna's point of view.

Once I stopped looking at the stars, I could see Leo was staring at me and that was when I said, “Leo this is the most beautiful thing I have ever seen and wait does this mean everyone else can see this?” Leo then said, “I’m glad you like my power and no only the people I allow to see it can see it or if you are Starian.” I then said, “do you think that I could do something like that?” Leo then said, “well I don’t see why not you might not be able to do much because you are only part Starian but then again you are Starian royalty so you might even have more power than most Starians.” I then said, “are Starian royalty more powerful than the rest?”

Leo then said, “yes they are everyone that was born in the royal bloodline can do more than one thing with their power.” I then said, “so I might be able to more than a normal Starian?” Leo then said, “I don’t have all of the answers and the only person that can answer them better is your grandmother.” I then said, “so when do we leave?” Leo then said, “well we need to ask her about that powerful surge we felt, and I know you have your own questions for her so the sooner the better.” I then said, “just let me write dad and Leah a letter and then we can go.” Leo then said, “are you sure you want to go now without saying goodbye we don’t know how long we are going to take.”

I then took a deep breath and said, “Speckles I can’t say goodbye to them especially not dad because I just can’t handle seeing the heart break in their eyes.” Leo then said, “well if that is what you think is best then that’s what we are going to do.” I then said, “thank you Speckles.” Leo then said, “your welcome also by the way I love you too.” I then smiled at him and said, “I know you do.” We both then climbed down the treehouse, and we went hand in hand up to my house so I can write a letter for Leah and dad. Once we done that, we then locked the door behind us, and we walked back down to Nova’s car, and we drove back to Leo’s house.

Once we got to Leo’s house Leo said, “I will wait here for you.”

I then nodded and I sneakily walked over to dad’s house, and I slid the letter under the door, and I quickly left before I could get spotted. Once I got back to Leo, he wrapped his arms around me and he said, “it’s not going to be forever.” I then weakly smiled at him, and said, “I know.” Leo then said, “you will see them again soon.” We then both walked into his house, and we walked up to his bedroom, and he opened what I thought was a cabinet, but it turned out to be a portal. Leo then grabbed my hand and picked me up into his arms and he said, “this way we will both fit, and I will know that you haven’t got lost.” Suddenly the room turned blue and then we started lifting into the air and it was too much for my eyes, so I closed them.
