After six months of training, Mother Caldo came to the class. “It’s time for those of you whom we deem suitable to become lay healers. Your teachers have been assessing your abilities during your lessons, along with my priests with whom you worked in the infirmary. We have decided the following people can begin work as lay healers.” She lifted a piece of paper and read a list of names. Asphodel held her breath, and her stomach churned. What if her name werenot on it? What would she do? She had her heart set on becoming a healer. Mother Caldo read the entire list, and Asphodel felt sick. Her name hadnot been called.
