I grab the thick branch from behind me and hold it out in front of me, putting all my strength into it just as Ezekiel punches me. The branch pierces right where his heart is, and I see the shock in his eyes. Unable to bear his weight, I fall down, the branch snapping in two. But the damage is done. His eyes roll to the back of his head as he coughs out blood. Trembling, I stare at his quivering form. Death throes. I killed him. There was a howl from behind him, and I looked over to see my father standing there, his eyes wide in horror. I expect him to run towards me, to attack me, but instead, he stumbles back before turning on his heel and running away like a coward.
