I didn’t understand why she couldn’t feel the bond, she should have the second Jay left us. But had she sensed their bond, how would she have reacted? I presume not well. It wasn’t that I wanted her to forget about Jay, but I couldn’t help not wanting more. It took every restraint I could muster to stop myself from going to her. To hold her in my arms and tell her she was meant to be mine. Still, I wanted her to choose me just as much as we were destined to be together.
I watched her for hours as she lay over the very layer of dirt I had found Jay in. I recall the pool of blood that surrounded his rigid body. His scent was still fresh to the nose, he was struggling to hold on to his life. Knowing that Amari suffered, I knew I would trade spots with Jay without flinching.
