Emma was out in the forest one night crying because she had finally made her decision. Emma was 14 years old and had had enough. She had her bag packed and stashed at a root nearby. She knew in her heart that there was a better and loving life out there. She would find it.
She took her bag and ran. She ran from all the pain. She ran from all the disappointing eyes. She ran into the city.
She was wandering the streets for a few hours. It was getting late and reality started kicking in. She had no money, no home, no one to protect her. She was just about to give up and go back home. She prayed no one had figured out what she had tried to do.
Until an older lady, that looked homeless and sweet called to her. "Child, what are you doing out here so late and by yourself?" Emma thought for a minute. She had been taught not to talk to strangers but she was so lonely and this seemed like a sweet lady. With down turned eyes, "I ran away!" The old lady got a suspicious glint in her eye. "You ran away?! What's your name child?" "Emma, ma'am."
"Why don't you come with me and I'll get you some food and some place to sleep for the night!" Said the old lady. Emma had no other choice unless she went back home. So, she followed the old lady.
They went down a couple of streets until they were at an abandoned looking warehouse. From the outside, most of the windows were broken, bricks were missing. The building definitely looked like it was falling apart. The old lady opened a door and Emma saw a small office that was turned into a small makeshift bedroom. The old lady quickly shut the door behind them and said "My name is Mrs. Brown. Let's get you some food and then we'll rest. "
Emma ate what was prepared and felt awfully tired. So she yawned and laid down on the cot. It wasnt comfortable and as warm as her bed at home but she was so tired it didn't matter.
