18. To Miles and Beyond

"Maa!" Nandini walked to the kitchen after her evening nap spotting Sreelekha alone in the kitchen.

"Jee beta?" Nandini smiled at the motherly warmth Sreelekha was providing her with "Main kuch help karu?"

"Nahi Nahi! Sirf pakore hi talne baaki hai" Nandini nodded and stood beside her "Maa, aapse ek baat karni thi"

"Haa bolona!" Taking a deep breath she continued "Aap hi toh saare ghar ka budget rakhthi hai, isliye papaji, chachaji, chote chachaji, bhaiya, Cabir bhai aur Manik aapko hi apna salary dete hai!" Sreelekha nodded while frying the aloo pakoras when Nandini said "Meri bhi 60,000 ho jaati hai.. Usme main apne savings me 25,000 rakhthi hu.. Toh aap aadha le lijiye ga?" Sreelekha looked her at with surprise "Lekin beta?"

"Maa, aap beti toh maanti ho Mujhe. . Please le lijiyega! Maine unse se bhi baat ki toh unhone bhi bola ki aap se baat karne.. Shaadi se pehle main Mumma ko de deti thi.. Abb please aap rakhiye!" Sreelekha kissed her forehead "Tum na bohot pyaari ho!"

"Aap bhi bohot acchi ho Maa!" Nandini was about to continue when the main door rang and she smiled deeply "Wo aagaye main dekhti hu" Sreelekha smiled and continued with her pakoras while Nandini walked to the door and found him smiling at him, tired. She took his bag and slowly looked behind and then ruffled his hair while he looked at her with a smile "Chalo room me!" Nandini nodded and walked to the bedroom and Manik followed her.

"Pankaj, Manik ke kamre me pakore bhijwa dijiye chai ke saath!" Sreelekha ordered Pankaj who nodded and took the pakoras to their room.

"Kaisa gaya aapka din?" Making him sit on the bed, she started ruffling his hair to dry them off the sweat and then started loosening his tie, started opening his coat while he smiled and sat there chewing the pakoras "Bohot tiring tha Nandini.. Uff! Maar daala Bill Gates ne! Tumhara kaisa tha?!" She giggled and kissed his forehead softly "Mera accha tha! Aap fresh ho jayiye! Main dinner ki tayyari karti hu!" She was about to go when he held her wrist and pulled her "Bohot sundar lag rahi ho aaj!" She blushed and pushed him "Kaam hai, raat ko baat karenge!" And she ran away downstairs giggling while he ruffled his hair with a smile, moving towards the bathroom.

After a Month.

"Congratulations Manik!" This was all he could hear as he came out of his boss's cabin with a never ending smile. He was being promoted to a higher level due to all the work shifts he worked which led to the increment in their shares even. Manik thanked them all while his heart danced inside to thank his family, and mostly his lucky charm. She surely proved to be a lucky charm to him.

He quickly took a seat and blushed "Dinner date pe le jaaun ya Shopping?" He thought for a second "Dinner Date will be more economically resting!" He chuckled knowing what an amaze shopper she was and continued working on his computer when Rohan, his fellow friend came in with a smile "Aye Manik! Congratulations bro! So proud of you!" Manik hugged him and thanking him, got seated again.

"So, what are the plans tonight?" He winked to which Manik smiled "Dinner date with wifey!" And he winked back.

"Aha! I did the same! Natasha was so happy.. She called up our parents and they were so glad too!" And that hit him. s**t. He had a family with whom he shared his first promotion too but?

"I never thought about it yaar! I have got a family, a huge large family..I don't want to go leaving them! Nandini will let our family members accompany us?" He wiped the sweat forming on his forehead and thought to which Rohan exclaimed "I don't think so. See, you guys are newly weds and obviously she will ask for some space.. So I guess that will be a prob!" Manik pouted "But I never celebrated without my family.. Man!"

Rohan smiled "That's very sweet.. Lekin?"

"Ek baar Nandini ko order toh deh hi sakta hu.. I mean tho I don't mean to be dominant lekin I can.. For once!" Rohan laughed it off and went away since boss called him while Manik's thought-process came to a halt due to the continuous rings.

He smiled weakly and picked it up "Mil gaya promotion letter?" He smiled genuinely and said "Haan..!"

"I am so happyyy Manik!!" She chidded happily which made him Happy too "Let's go on Dinner today?"

"Haa pleasee!! But alone.. I will reach home as fast as possible and get ready.. Bye!! Have a class now!!! So proud of you!!" Nandini spoke in a go and hung up the call while Manik sighed "Why me, Rabba ji?"

He was not at all interested to reach home today but had to. He never wanted to celebrate his achievement without his family, but Nandini was his priority too. With a weak smile, he knocked at the door and Sreelekha came up with a sweet along with Divya and Aditi. Manik smiled genuinely and spotted Nandini smiling behind. She surely wasn't selfish and asking for a lone time with husband wasn't wrong anyway, but?

"Manik!! Congratulations!!" All spoke in a go and he smiled warmly. There was Nandini's family too. He bent down to touch every elder's feet and stood when suddenly his eyes went at Nandini who was looking like a rose in the cherry red coloured saree she was wearing. His eyes met the appearances of others even and his mind went blank. Why were they decked up and all? s**t!!

"Manik!! Aap thora fresh ho jayiye phir chalenge!" Manik quickly went to his room while Nandini followed him while the others waited for a while, for him to get back.

"Congratulations Manik!" As soon as he locked the door, she hugged him and kissed his cheek which made him smile "Thank you so much, lucky charm!" Her blush made her look prettier and he couldn't agree more.

"Chalo.. Dinner pe!" He said softly not meeting her eyes when she smiled deeply "Haan aap ready ho jayiye.. Sab intezaar karrahe hai!!" Manik turned his face towards her "Sab?"

"Haan!" She was taking out his clothes from the cupboard "Kitne excited hai sabb! Maa ne toh Baba aur Maa ko bhi bula liya!!" Nandini giggled while Manik stood there confused.

He pulled her by waist "Lekin you said.. Alone?"

"Haan.. Alone matlab sirf hum! No friends and late night parties with them!!" She giggled and that finally made him smile so deep that he smashed his lips on her. She was surprised yet responsed and both broke the kiss "I love you so so so much!!" And he quickly went inside leaving a confused yet smiling Nandini behind who walked to the dressing table to apply the lipstick again.
