“My name is Julian” “Sergeant Noah!” I whispered. “Please tell Julian I can handle this. It was that brat’s fault. I can fix this please, please, pl-..” The sergeants voice echoed in my ears. “Oh. You knew Colleen?. My mistake, you worked together right? I don’t want to sound hysterical while saying this Ms.Keno, but Colleen was a bad person. He deserves what happened to him.” Julian said. “No he didn’t, you dirtbag!!” I screamed, running towards him, but I was restrained by the two big men who were behind me. “No need for hostility Ms. Keno. I assure you that I am of no harm. I simply bring justice to those who believe themselves to be above the law.” Julian said. Something about the gentleman made him different from every other I’ve met. He was calm. He wasn’t enraged easily. He radiated this harmonic energy. At that particular moment, I could not bear any hatred towards him. I knew nothing about this man, but something tells me that he is not what I think he could be. “Unhand her,” he ordered again, “And leave us, I would like to have a word with Ms. Keno alone.” “I do not want to talk to you. Don’t leave, You stay!” I told the big men. “Very well then. Stay. Honour her wishes.” He said. “Who are you? And what do you want from me? Why did you kill Sergeant Noah?” I asked. “My name is Julian and I assure you that you will be answered once you have calmed down Ms. Keno. I also am a human being after all, I do, perhaps, have my own story to tell.” Julian said, walking to the dinner table and opening a seat for me. “Would you like to take a seat Madam?” I went in closer and took a seat where he pulled the chair. “We are going to have dinner. You have your own room that you will be sleeping in. My aides will assist with anything you might require. Do not hesitate to order anything, my treat. And please refrain from trying to run away, this manor is manned with 24/7 hardcore security. Trying to escape will not benefit you in any way.” Julian said, as he sat down on the opposite end of the table. “What do you want from-..” I was cut by a phone ringing. His phone. “Oh where are my manners?, my sincere apologies Ms. Keno but I do have to take this phone call. I trust that you will get comfortable. Do not hesitate to call out for help if needed. Dallas and James behind you will show you where you will be stationed for the night. Excuse me.” Julian said whilst standing up and walking away from the room. “Madam, Is there anything I may assist with? My name is James, and he is Dallas and we are your personal assistants.” One of the big men said. “You hit me in the head, you big hunk of shite.” I responded. “My apologies madam. I apologise for my actions, I did not intend to cause you harm.” Dallas said. It’s like these people were built to be emotionless. I was escorted to my supposed room by a woman who also worked for Julian. “This is your room madam, ring the bell if you need anything. I will be at your service.” She said, as she left the room and closed the door behind her. Everything about this felt wrong. I was kidn*pped by a mysterious gang leader, now he’s trapped me in a luxurious house with everything that I need. I wonder what he wants from me. Judging by the big house, the suits, the workers, he’s probably a hotshot mob boss, but what kind? Is he mafia? does he sell drugs? cartel maybe? or is he just a normal gangster who rose above the ranks?. I had so many questions. I was laying on the bed, contemplating on whether I should try to escape or if I should wait till I know who he is and what he wants, until I heard knock at the door. “May I come in?” Julian said from behind the door. “No, f**k off.” I responded. “I see you have gotten comfortable. Do you need anything?” He said, opening the door and coming in to see me laying on the bed. “What do you want from me? All of this? This is frustrating me, you kidn*pped me and know you’re locking me up in this hotel with whatever I want? Are you going to kill me? If you are please do it now. I don’t want to delay anything.” I said, getting up from the bed. “Can I tell you a story?” He asked. “Please answer my questions Julian, I’m tired of these riddles.” I whined. “Ancient Chinese cultures believed in something called The red string theory,” He said, while coming in closer and sitting on the other side of the bed, “this theory basically says that two people who are destined to marry, have a red string that hangs from the pinky finger of one of them and connects to the pinky finger of the other. And that this red string might stretch, or twist, or tangle or contract, but this string can never break Ms. Keno. The reason why this string is red is because the Chinese believed red to be the colour of pure emotion in the ancient Chinese culture.” Julian explained. “How does that have to do with what I’m asking you?” I cried. “You seem tired Ms. Keno. You should get some rest. I’ll ask Ma’am Grace to bring you something to eat. Goodnight Aviva.” He said, getting up from the bed and walking toward the door. “But-..” I was cut short by the sound of the door closing behind him. What does that mean? Was that supposed to be some sort of riddle? Or is he…? No, I’m not his end of the red string. Am I? He couldn’t possibly think that I am his soulmate, could he?. But why me? I don’t even know this guy. I mean I am flattered but no. No, that’s not what he meant. My mind ran all over the place. I couldn’t process what was going on. There was a knock on my door. “Madam, I brought your dinner. Mr. Julian instructed me to bring you something to eat. I am Grace.” The woman said from behind the door. “Come in.” I said. “Here is your food madam. Be sure to let me know when you are finished so I can come fetch the plate for you.” Ma’am Grace said. “Ma’am Grace?” I said subtly. “Yes madam?” She responded. “Please, call me Aviva.” I said. “My apologies Aviva.” She responded. “Why am I here? Is he going to hurt me?” “Who? Mr. Julian? He would never hurt you. I apologise Aviva, but I too am in the dark about why you are here. Maybe Mr. Julian caught your eye. Maybe he likes you. But what I do know for sure, is that he would never do you any harm. I have worked with his family for 54 years and Mr. Julian is the kindest person whom I had ever worked for. He does not do anything without reason.” Ma’am Grace said. “Oh, he does not?” I repeated. “You should have a bite and go to sleep Aviva. You have a big day tomorrow.” She said. “A big day? What’s going on tomorrow?” I asked “Goodnight Aviva.” Ma’am Grace said as she walked out of the door. “Why does everyone do that?” I said aloud to myself. *** I was woken up the following morning by his voice from the outside of the room. “Good morning everybody. Are all the preparations ready?” …
