Ann's heels kept making a loud sound through the marble floors of Daniel’s building, her steps slow, yet deliberate as she ascended to his office suite. She had been silent for most of the morning, eyes glued to her phone, scanning texts and rewatching the courtroom footage. “She’s too calm,” Ann murmured. Daniel glanced up. “Who?” “Aria.” Her voice was clipped. “No one makes a move like that unless they’re holding a bigger card.” He rested back in his chair, clearly annoyed. “You’re exhibiting an irrational fear.” “No, I'm not” she said as she glided both her thumbs together, turning to face him fully. “I’m being smart.
