The lingering echo of Thomas's quiet promise hung heavy in the vast executive office, thick with an intoxicating, breathless intensity.
His large, warm palms were still cupping Jen's face, his thumbs gently wiping away the remaining moisture on her cheeks. His forehead rested lightly against hers, his deep, steady breathing fanning softly across her trembling lips.
Jen's heart hammered violently against her ribs, every nerve ending in her body singing from the overwhelming closeness of him. for five years, she had convinced herself that she hated him. But being trapped in his magnetic orbit, feeling his raw, possessive heat and hearing the gut-wrenching confession of his loneliness in Boston shattered every wall she had built.
" Thomas...." she whispered, her voice barely audible, floating between them like a fragile thread.
" I mean every word, Jen," Thomas rasped softly, his gravelly voice dropping into a tender, hypnotic register. He didn't pull away; instead, he leaned down, pressing a lingering, soft kiss onto her forehead, over her brow, before slowly releasing her cheek.
The loss of his warmth hit her like a sudden, chilly draft. Jen took a quick step back, trying to smooth down her suit jacket and regain her professional composure, though her face was still flushed a deep, rosy pink.
" We...... we have a resort to run," Jen stammered, avoiding his intense dark eyes that were watching her every move with hawklike focus. " And if you expect me to work alongside you as co-head, I need to go back down to my office and pack my things for the executive wing."
A slow, devastatingly handsome smirk touched the corner of Thomas's lips, a rare glimpse of the arrogant, confident titan she remembered. " You don't need to pack anything. Marcus has already moved your personal belongings to the executive suite. Right next to mine."
Jen shot him with a sharp glare. " You move too fast, arm. Bolduc."
" When it comes to you and Gioia, I've already wasted five years," Thomas replied smoothly, steeping around his suit jacket. " I don't intend to waste another second."
The Office Gossip Mill
Down on the main administrative floor, the atmosphere was buzzing like a disturbed beehive.
The news of the emergency acquisition by Bolduc Dynamics had already sent shock waves through Solaria Bay Resort, but the memo that had just hit every staff member's email inbox ten minutes ago caused outright chaos.
"Effective immediately, Miss Jen Delos Santos has been elevated from Assistant Hospitality Manager to Co-Head of Global Resort Operations."
In the open-plan office break room, three senior supervisors were huddled over the coffee machine, whispering furiously.
" Co-Head of Operations?" Loida, a senior front-desk supervisor, hissed in disbelief, holding her mug with both hands. " She was just an assistant manager yesterday! How does someone skip three management tiers overnight?"
" Did you see the new owner?" Another coordinator chimed in, leaning closer. " That billionaire, Thomas Bolduc. He didn't even look at Mr. Villa during the morning briefing. But every time Jen walked into the room, his eyes followed her like he owned her."
" Is it true?" Loida whispered, her eyebrows raised with sharp curiosity. " Did she know him before? Or did she somehow pull off a corporate miracle in a single private meeting?"
Before anyone could answer, the glass doors of the administrative floor slid open with a soft hum.
The entire break room went dead silent.
Jen walked onto the floor, carrying a small leather notepad. But she wasn't alone.
Thomas was walking right beside her. He had shed his suit jacket, wearing only a crisp white dress shirt with sleeves folded back neatly to his forearms, emphasizing his imposing, broad frame. He stood nearly a head taller than everyone else on the floor, radiating a lethal, undeniable authority that made staff members instantly straighten their spins and look down at their desk.
Yet, despite his terrifying executive presence, Thomas was paying zero attention to the nervous employees. His entire focus was fixed solely on the woman at his side.
He walked dangerously close to Jen close enough that his broad shoulder occasionally brushed against hers, a silent, possessive declaration to the entire room that she was under his direct protection.
" Is your desk set up acceptable, Jen?" Thomas asked, his deep baritone carrying clearly across the quiet office floor, sending a wave of goosebumps down the spines of the watching staff.
" It's fine, Thomas," Jen said under breath, her face burning slightly as she felt forty pairs of eyes staring at them. " You really didn't need to walk me down here to grab my remaining files."
" I wanted to walk with you," Thomas replied flatly, without an ounce of apology in his tone.
He reached out, his large, warm hand casually sitting against the small of her back, a subtle, deeply intimate gesture that sent a jolt of electricity straight to Jen's heart. He didn't care about the corporate rumors. He didn't care about the office gossip. He was marking his territory, loud and clear.
Loida and the supervisors in the break room exchanged wide-eyed, stunned glances, practically dropping their coffee cups.
The Fire of Jealousy
They reached Jen's old desk near the corner window. As Jen began opening her drawers to organize her personal files, a tall, handsome junior marketing executive named Rey stepped out from his cubicle, holding a thick Manila folder.
Rey, who had harbored a subtle crush on Jen for months, smiled warmly as she approached her desk, entirely oblivious to the dark shadow towering right behind her.
" Hey Jen! I mean...... Congratulations, Miss Delos Santos!" Rey said enthusiastically, offering her a sweet, charming smile. " We were all so shocked by the promotion announcement, but honestly, no one deserves it more than you. You work harder than anyone in this building."
Jen smiled back warmly, glad for a moment of genuine kindness amidst the awkward stares. " Thank you, Rey. That really means a lot."
" I was wondering if we could grab lunch at the resort bistro today?" Rey offered smoothly, leaning lightly against the edge of her desk. " To celebrate? My treat."
Before Jen could even open her mouth to answer, the air temperature around her desk dropped below freezing.
Thomas stepped forward, his massive frame completely cutting off Rey's line of sight to Jen. The billionaire loomed over the younger marketing executive like an impending storm. His dark brown eyes narrowing into cold, lethal suits.
The relaxed, charming smile on Rey's face instantly vanished, replaced by a look of sheer, instinctive terror as he absorbed the hostile, territorial aura radiating off the owner of Bolduc Dynamics,
" Miss Delos Santos's lunch schedule is entirely booked with executive briefing meetings," Thomas stated, his gravelly voice dropping an octave into a low, deadly rumble that made Rey flinch. "With me."
" I...... I see," Rey stammered, stepping back so fast he nearly tripped over a waste-basket. " My apologies, Mr. Bolduc. I'll ....I'll just leave the marketing reports on her desk."
" Leave them with Marcus," Thomas commanded flatly, pointing a long finger toward his assistant who was standing discreetly by the glass doors. " And return to your department."
Rey molded frantically, bowing his head in quick deference. Before virtually sprinting back to his cubicle.
Jen stared at Thomas, her jaw dropping in utter disbelief as she slammed her desk drawer shut.
" Are you serious?" Jen whispered sharply, glaring up at him with sparky, indignant eyes. " Rey was just trying to be nice! You are completely terrifying my staff!"
Thomas turned his fierce, unyielding gaze back onto her. Instead of looking guilty, he stepped into her personal space, trapping her between his broad body and the edge of the desk. He leaned down until his lips were mere inches from her ear, his breath hit against her skin.
" I don't care about being nice to him, Jen," Thomas growled softly, his dark eyes burning with an intense, possessive fire that made her breath hitch in her throat. " The only man allowed to buy you lunch, hold your attention, or stand this close to you in this building is me."
