Chapter Four

1105 Words
He had used going to find Sage as an excuse to leave the building. He was starting to feel suffocated, and he didn't want to raise more suspicion by just leaving without any valid reason. He was starting to feel that Astrid was suspecting something, he didn't think it was necessary to involve a lot of people now till he and Sage found out what really caused her death. He was going to have to call Caleb sooner than later, how would he explain to him that he had been right, that his worry had been valid and Emily was dead? This was something he had never thought would happen in his life. He had grown up in Ravenshire and things like this didn't happen, or maybe they did, and he just never knew. He had always believed that everything was out in the open in Ravenshire, that everybody knew everything that was going on in the town. He had decided to be a sheriff because he believed he wouldn't have to do many things, he wasn't lazy or anything, he loved patterns and knowing what to expect the next day, being a Sheriff had helped him achieve that lifestyle, and now the lifestyle he was so used to and enjoyed so much was about to be disrupted. He was confused and didn't know the next step. He needed to find Sage, they needed to know the next step they should take, if it was wise to let the town know or not, if they were going to do an autopsy or not and what they would do with her unalive body. He had gone through her phone earlier to check for a family number, but there had been none. She didn't seem to have many friends either, there weren't many numbers on her phone. He and Sage would try the numbers later, but first things first, he needed to find Sage. Caleb checked his phone for the 100th time. Why hadn't he gotten a call from Gavin or Emily? He had thought he would be done with what he needed to do on time, so he could check on Emily himself. It was weird that she hadn't called to give report if Gavin had done what he asked. He wasn't feeling so good, and he knew he wasn't going to make it to the bar today, and even if he did, it would be at night. He was feeling totally different aside from the fact that he wasn’t feeling so good, and he couldn’t place his mind on what the problem was. He tried Gavin again, still getting no response. Getting up from the position he was, he headed to the cellar, he needed to sort the wines he was going to take along to the bar. After trying to get Gavin and Emily, and it not being successful, he decided to get Amelia, one of his other staff and one of the few persons he had seen Emily get along with. She was going to be on night shift today, so she might not be able to know if Emily came in or not, but he was hoping he might be able to get to someone who did through her. Amelia put the last dish she had just finished washing and was heading to the laundry when she heard her phone ring, taking a minute to recall where she had dropped her phone, her legs moving her to the dining area, and where her phone lay on the table, picking it and reading the caller ID, why was her boss calling her, she panicked for a while her eyes checking the time for a brief second, before remembering that she wasn't meant to be on duty in the morning, she answered the call, put it on speaker, then went about doing what she had planned. The call didn't last long, not that she thought it would, she hadn't really paid attention to what he said either. She could only hope it wasn't something that would cost her job. Shoved it out of her thoughts, she went ahead to stuff her clothes into the machine, hoping to go back to sleep when she was done. She had placed the clothes in the dryer, her mind going back to the call, trying to remember if it had to do with something at the bar, she wouldn't want to lose her job due to her attitude. After thinking for a while, she remembered it didn't have to do with her , she wasn't that close to Emily, she had just tried to be nice to her a few times, she couldn't understand why Caleb would call her to ask about Emily, shrugging, she tossed the thought aside, hoping Emily was okay though, she didn't like hearing bad news, especially if it had to do with someone she knew whether on a deep level or not. Sage breathed quietly, what was she doing, where she was? She took a moment to check her surroundings. She couldn't remember driving to this place. Although she knew she had driven herself, she was still shaken by the fact that she had shot at Astrid, had almost killed her, not that she had never shot at someone before, it just felt so different, so terrifying, she had never lost her calm this much, she had never shot at a colleague, she needed to go back, she was sure Gavin was looking for her. She needed to get herself together, she was starting to irritate her, she was an ex FBI for Pete's sake , why was she acting the way she was, she was starting to feel like she was overreacting? Was it the incident that had happened while she was still with the FBI that was making her so jumpy and terrified? She needed to get her mind cleared and focus on reality. She hadn't realized she had driven to the edge of a cliff while she had been so concentrated on trying to regain a clear mind, she hadn't even known she had driven close to a cliff at all. She felt the car titling forward, she was trying so hard to reverse but her tires weren't responding, was this how she was going to die. She had never thought anything like this would happen to her. Thinking back now, she had never thought she would experience how today had gone. She closed her eyes, preparing her mind for her fall. She hoped her body would at least be found on time, and she would get a proper burial.
