Gavin was starting to get frustrated, an hour had almost passed, and he still hadn't found Sage, why was she making herself hard to see? He was starting to get angry, she wasn't acting as professional as she was meant to. Had he been too soft to the people in the department, he knew Ravenshire was a peaceful place and there hadn't been need to be violent, but a Sheriff is meant to know when to step up and put in the work, and she had worked as an FBI.
He rang the office, making sure she hadn't gone back, and his anger had been misplaced. Nobody had seen her since she left. She lived alone so he couldn't call her house. The thought of having to drive to her house at this time of the day for a reason he was already angry about made him more annoyed.
She wasn't home. He had tried calling her, but her number wasn't reachable. He was starting to get worried. He hoped that she hadn't been so unfocused that she ended up where she wasn't meant to be.
He headed back to his car and turned to the main road, checking every turn and curve as he drove, there still wasn't any sign of her. After much thought and contemplation, he decided to scan the woods and cliff area, though he was doubtful that he would see her in any of those areas.
Sage felt the car stop. Was she dead? Had finally fallen, and the pain had numbed her. She scanned her body briefly, there were no bruises, nothing, her mind going back to the car. She felt it tilting now, but it wasn't moving. This was her chance she wasn't going to die, at least not today.
Opening the door as gently as possible so as not to cause further movement, she jumped out, her body making contact with the ground. She felt her knee pop. She didn't need this, she hoped it was so bad. Looking at her knee, she realized she had sustained a bruise. Her elbow wasn't left out from the bruise, groaning silently, she tried getting up, crashing back to the ground.
Her knee was badly broken. She tried standing up several times, giving up when her knee refused to support her weight, crawling to a corner, hoping she was with something sharp, so she could cut the cloth that was rubbing against her knee bruise, there was no way she would be able to support her knee by tying it, because it will intensify the pain of her injury.
She was glad she hadn't changed her keyholder from being a pen knife as she slowly cut the cloth from that area, being as careful as she could.
Gavin was almost giving up when he spotted Sage's car, breathing a sigh of relief momentarily before he realized where the car was sitting. What was she doing? Was she on a suicide mission now? He couldn't count the number of times he had headache today, just because of Sage. When this was over, that's if he is able to save her before she tumbled over, he was going to give her a piece of his mind. He already had a lot he was thinking about , so to add her to his list of thoughts wasn't possible.
Getting out of his car as fast as he could, he ran towards Sages', halting when he reached the driver's side, and she wasn't there. The door was swinging and looked like it would fall off its hinges. Slowly closing the door, he turned around, bending off the edge of the cliff, to see if she had fallen, either by mistake or intentionally.
“He wasn't going to see her, no matter how hard he strained his eyes he wasn't going to see her”, he was murmuring to himself. He sank to the ground burying his head in between his knees, rubbing his palm across his head.
Sage couldn't help but smile at how Gavin was acting, forgetting her bruises and the sharp pain she had been feeling for a while, laughing wholeheartedly in a silent chuckle. She couldn't remember the last time she had smiled, since today.
Her laughter wasn't as silent as she thought as Gavin turned towards her, his expression turning from relief to worry, then anger, getting up from the position he was, he walked to her, counting to ten to make the anger he was feeling subside a bit. Opening his mouth to speak, surprised at how calm he sounded.
“What were you thinking?”" Do you think your death will bring her back?”
Sage stared at Gavin, trying hard to listen to what he was saying. Now that she wasn't laughing, the pain she had been feeling had intensified. She didn't know if it was the laughter and the movement of her body that made the pain increase.
Her eyes shifted to the large stone which still held her car. She had never been so thankful to a stone. She could imagine her shattered ribs and bloody flesh lying below the cliff if not for the stone. Nobody would have known what had really happened to her, they would have assumed whatever they felt was right and made it their reality.
She was very grateful though that she hadn't died, and from the look of things, she might be able to save her car. She had planned to use stone in wedging the other tire, but it had been too huge for her to move, and her broken knee made it harder for her. She was grateful that Gavin was here, signaling to him, they rolled the stone, her sitting on the ground and using her back to push it, securing the other tire, she was sure now that the car wouldn't tumble over. Smiling softly at Gavin, she muttered a tiny “thank you”.
When he didn't respond or smile back, she remembered he had been saying something and she hadn't paid attention.
“I am sorry”, “I know i haven't been acting so professional today and I have probably made you worry and wasted our time and progress today, and I am really very sorry”.
Sage heard herself say, looking Gavin straight in the eye.
