Chapter Three
The man standing at the door might be a ghost. His presence was unexpected, surprising. I didn't want to look at him, not after everything that happened. Not after years of pain, betrayal and unanswered questions. But I can't look away. He was tall, broad-shouldered and of a light brown complexion. His eyes looked at me—those piercing, dark eyes—and for the first time in years I felt a shiver run down my spine. "I never thought I'd see you here, Isabella." Sound. It was deep and simple and it carried something bad. The voice used to be very powerful to me. The voice of the man who changed my world, the man I thought I would never hear again. I opened my mouth, but no words came out.
My heart pounded in my chest, blood pounded in my ears. My body went cold, frozen, as if I couldn't quite grasp the man standing before me. His eyes locked on Gabriela, who didn't move a single bit. Gabriela was not clearly identified, there was no indication that she knew who this man was. But I know. I know exactly who it is. This is Lucas. The man who took my life.
"You..." I whispered, my voice ragged as if I hadn't spoken in years. "What are you doing here?" Lucas didn't answer right away. Instead, he entered the room, filling up so much space that I felt like I couldn't breathe. His eyes never left mine, just curious. This was different - something deeper, darker. "I think you know why I came here," Lucas, his voice small, full of the evil charm that had once drawn me. "It's been a long time, Isabella." I shook my head, trying to clear the fog that filled my mind. My eyes darted between Lucas and Gabriel, trying to make sense of the situation. Gabriel's expression hadn't changed, it was still as meaningless as before, but now there was something in her eyes – a hint of suspicion, of distrust. "You..." I tried again, my voice harsh. "What do you want from me now?" Lucas approached, slow and deliberate. "I don't want anything from you, Isabella," his voice dropped. “I came to see the woman that happened. Who hid the truth for a long time. ” I felt a lot of anger in me, but I controlled it. I couldn't let him have the satisfaction of seeing me helpless. "I'm not hiding," I said loudly, even though my hands were shaking a little. “I'm here because I need to hear it. Why did you do that? Why did you betray me? After all we had - I thought we had - why? ” Lucas's lips curved into a smile, but there was no warmth in it. “You really don’t know, do you?” he said, almost excitedly. “I never wanted to hurt you, Isabella. But you shouldn’t have been with Gabriel. “You should have been with me.” His words hit me in the face. I stepped back as my mind raced, trying to figure out the web of lies and distortions that had unfolded. "I don't know what game you're playing, Lucas," I said, my voice shaking despite myself. "But I'm done. I'm done." He seemed oblivious to my anger. In fact, he seemed pleased, as if he'd expected my anger. “You can't get away from it. You've always been a part of this mess, whether you like it or not. Do you think you can give it all? You can't. " I stepped back, shaking my head. It wasn't going to happen.
Not here, not now. But the more I tried to remove the truth, the closer I got. The wall was closed. "I was wrong," I said, trying to calm my voice. "I have nothing. I came here because I need an answer. And you're going to give it to me. “You think you have it, but you didn't do it from the beginning.” I don't know what to say. Those words felt like a choking and closing throat. I wanted to run away from every part of my life, but I knew I couldn't. Not when I'm far away. I tried to look him in the eyes, standing. "Don't scare me, Lucas," I said, though my voice was barely a whisper. His eyes were dark and for the first time I saw something wrong with him. "You should be scared, Isabella," he said in a low, almost hypnotic voice. "Because I'm not done with you yet."
The atmosphere in the room was somehow, Gabriel didn't move, didn't say a word, but I could feel his eyes searching me, as if trying to understand what was going on. But I didn't have time to worry about Gabriel. No, as far as Lucas was concerned, his presence trumped everything else. “You think I'm right,” I said, my voice strong. “But you're wrong. I know exactly what you did. I know how you used me. ” Lucas's smile faded for a moment, but it only lasted a second. He quickly recovered, and moved closer until we were face to face. I felt his breath on my skin and it chilled me. "Do you think I will benefit?" he said, his voice dark and dangerous. “No, Isabella. I never took advantage of it. ".
I swallowed hard, my mind racing. What game is he talking about? What on earth is he talking about? Before I could ask another question, Gabriel finally moved. He stepped forward and placed a hand on my shoulder. "That's enough," he said, his voice cold as steel. "I don't know what your problem is Lucas, but you can't drag it out here." I turned and looked at Gabriel, shaking at the sound of his voice. It's not what I'm thinking now. But maybe never. But I can't die then, unless something shakes inside me and makes my heart race. But Lucas wasn't afraid. If anything, he seemed to be enjoying our conflict. "I don't care what you think, Gabriel," Lucas said, his voice almost mocking.
"This isn't your fight. This is Isabella's fight. It always has been." Gabriel's hand wrapped around my shoulders, and I felt his warmth, and there really was no end to the glow between us. I opened my mouth to say something, but before I could, there was a crash in the bedroom. It sounded like - something was breaking, something was shattering. Gabriel's eyes turned to the sound, but at the same time, I saw a flash of something. Something dark and dangerous. "Stay here." Gabriel's voice was hoarse, and he turned and ran in the direction of the sound. I stood there, frozen, staring at the door, wondering if everything I'd learned would come to my way. I was unprepared for what was about to happen. It hadn't come in a long time. But it came. But I had no choice but to face him. Before I could move, I heard footsteps behind me - quiet, fast. There was someone behind me. I immediately turned to see a figure enter the room and close the door. My breath caught in my throat. And then I heard a word I never thought I'd hear again. "Isabella, it's time for you to know the truth." And just like that, everything I thought I knew began to be revealed. .
