Finding herself

Chapter 6: First day

Maya walked me to the diner she worked at. It was beautiful. It had a red and white theme, she said it was the 70s style. Whatever that meant.

I met with the boss and he showed me around. We agreed I would work here for as long as I wanted and I would get a free meal here every day and free coffee. I will have to learn how to make coffee and where everything is, but it's not that hard. I think I will manage. I got my red and white uniform and shoes and was shown where I could keep them, so I won't have to bring them here every day.

I met the morning cook, his name is Frank, and some of my new co-workers, whose names are Vanessa, Irina, and Elena. They were all very nice and showed me where the cutlery and menus are. Frank made me a burger and fries so good, all my hair was standing on my arms. It was delicious and I could tell, he has been cooking for a long time.

After I finished my meal, the girls showed me how to make coffee in a pot and I went to change into my uniform. It was close to 3 o'clock and Maya's shift started and so did mine. Just before it did, the afternoon cook, named Jesse, and the waitress, named Dani came. They introduced themselves and went to change, while Maya gave me last-minute tips.

"Remember, grab the big tray and go clean the dirty tables. When you finish, bring the tray back and grab the cutlery and napkins, and put them neatly on the table. When you finish that, grab the tray again and take it into the kitchen and clean the dishes. That's all you have to do today. We usually rotate doing that, so you have to do it every third day. You'll do it today so that you get the feeling of what it's like working here and how quickly you have to do it. We usually get the same customers, except if someone is passing through. So it's pretty much the same every day, just the menu changes sometimes."

Maya then put her apron on and grabbed a pad and a pencil and went to take orders. I took my tray and went to clean up. And I did that again and again, for the whole shift. I quickly got the hang of it and it wasn't so bad.

I did it just like I was doing it for the last 14 years. Except these people weren't such pigs as my adoptive family was. Were they my adoptive family? What do I even call them now? Monsters? That would suit them. Monsters it is.

These people must respect the work that waitresses do, they put everything together so that I didn't even have much to clean. They ate most of their food and the tables weren't as dirty as I was used to. I loved it more and more as I was working. If I could even call this work. It's like a vacation for me.

'Stop grinning like a dumbass, you look stupid.' my wolf Onyx said, making me mad in an instant.

'Shut up, you must. Go back to the hole you crawled out of and leave me happy for once in a long time.' I try pushing her back, but she didn't budge.

'I'm not going anywhere. I'm waiting for you to embarrass yourself. I need some entertainment too. I'm bored' she whined.

'That's not my fault. You decided you wanted nothing to do with me so go where you came from and stop ruining the day for me.' As soon as she spoke, she ruined it, but I'm not going to give her the satisfaction of knowing that.

'Fine. But when do we get to have real fun? Like dancing, and running, but not for our lives? Drinking? s*x? You know, the real kind of fun. Not this boring stuff that you like.' She sounded bored and I believe her. This is not for everybody. But for me, it's bliss. I have a lot of time to think about what I want to do next.

'Let me ask Maya and stop with the whining. You're giving me a headache.' And like she heard me, Maya came to my side.

"So, what do you say if we go to a club tonight? There's this amazing place, not far from here, it's open every day and a lot of wolves will be there. A lot of opportunities for dancing and making out." She winked at me and I blushed instantly.

'God, you're such a virgin.' Onyx remarked and I imagined what it would be like if I could slap her hard. It's one of my dreams, but sadly, one that would never come true.

"That would be great. The dancing I mean. I don't know about the second part," I laughed shyly. I wouldn't even know how to start talking to a guy, much less how to make out with one.

"Right, I forgot. Well, you just follow the guy's lead. They usually know what they're doing. You will see, it's not that hard. Now come on, let's finish for today and get out of here, I have a dress you can borrow. I just don't know about the shoes. But we will find some heals somewhere. Go clean that table there and I will help you wash the dishes and we can go." she pointed at the empty table that had a couple of dishes and mugs on it. I looked around and saw that no customers were in. Is the day over already? I loved how fast it went by. I guess time flies by when you are enjoying what you do.

I cleaned the table and just as she said, Maya helped me clean the dishes. When we were done, we changed into our clothes and locked up the diner.

We walked to her place. Well, she almost ran from excitement. As we reached her house, I saw it was gorgeous. She also had a lot of plants inside and outside. Must be the werewolf nature to have life all around you. Like a tiny forest within the house.

Maya ran up the stairs and that made me run after her, or I would get lost. We came to a door, that she threw open and it revealed a big room, with white walls and floor, but all the furniture was black. The bed even had black pillows and covers. There were black curtains in front of the windows, but white roses on the bedside table. It looked like a room out of movies. I couldn't help myself but admire the style.

"Stop staring and come here, "Maya told me, as she walked to the white door on the left of the room. I walked behind her and she opened the door, revealing a walk-in closet. At this point, I'm not even surprised. She grabbed my hand and pulled me with her towards the dress part of the closet. She looked for a bit and took a beautiful short black dress out. It had a tight top with roses embroidered in it and the skirt part was kind of wavey and almost see-through.

She turned to me and put the dress in front of me, as to see if it would look good.

"This is perfect. Try it on and I will see if I have some here for you." She handed me the dress and I could instantly see, it would be a little short.

"Don't you think this is a little too short? I feel like my whole ass would be hanging out. I don't think I'm quite ready for that."

"No, just try it on, it will look perfect, you will see. Now stop whining and go put it on. The bathroom is on the other side of the room." She turned away from me, towards the shoe side of the closet. And there were a lot. From heels, boots, sneakers, and sandals, it almost looked like a shoe store in here.

I went into the bathroom and put the dress on. And as Maya said, it fits perfectly. I almost couldn't believe it. It came down to the middle of my thighs and it didn't feel nor look too revealing. I looked in the mirror and almost couldn't believe how much I looked like my mom at that moment. She always wore dresses and I did too, until the attack. After, I always wore sweatpants or trousers.

"I found something that I think will fit," Maya called from the closet, pulling me from my thoughts. I went to her and saw she had black heels with lots of straps. The heel wasn't too high, and I was relieved because I wouldn't know how to walk in bigger heels.

"These look amazing. I surely hope they fit or I will be disappointed. I love them." I said with basic hearts for eyes. I didn't know you could love shoes before, but I guess I had just never seen shoes like these before. I put them on, and just like the dress, they fit perfectly. I was so happy at that moment.

"You keep those. They look amazing on you." Maya said and I was reluctant.

"No, I can't do that. They are yours. And even though I think they are amazing and incredibly comfortable, I couldn't do that." She put me in an awkward position. Even though I wanted them, they weren't mine.

"No, keep them, please. They are too big for me and I was going to give them away anyway. I have an identical pair, just smaller, don't worry. And even if I didn't, I have enough others, as you saw." She smiled and it was genuine.

"Thank you so much. It means a lot. And now I have something to wear to the ceremony. I just have to get a dress and don't have to worry about it anymore. Thank you again." I hugged her because I didn't know how else to show her my gratitude. She hugged me back for a couple of seconds and then let me go.

"Okay, now I have to find something for myself, you get ready and we will go. I can't wait for you to meet some of my friends, they will love you. Just know, they are sarcastic sons of bitches and if you do not listen carefully, you just may miss the sarcasm. And we like to drink a lot. As we are wolves, we have a higher metabolism and we process alcohol quicker than humans and it takes a lot for it to take effect. Just know, if you don't want to, you don't have to drink. Nobody will push you to do it, and if you drink too much, we will get you to your bed safely. We always have one person that drinks a little less, so that the others get home ok. And tonight that's not me, so I'm going to have a lot of fun. I will introduce you to some guys and you do what you want with whoever you want. Just be safe and if you plan to hook up with someone, don't drink too much. Just in case he wants to do something you don't want. And remember, all the guys are wolves. No humans. So you can say what you want, without revealing something to someone, that shouldn't know."

I couldn't believe how responsible Maya and her friends were. And they have a good system that keeps everyone safe. From what I heard in my old pack, those my age weren't as close to being this responsible and still having fun. I just knew I would enjoy my night. I don't even know what will happen, but hopefully something new and exciting. Especially if there will be a lot of guys and a completely inexperienced me. I can't wait.
