TWENTY-FIVE The drab exterior of the Law Offices of MacIntosh & Adair reflected the career of the man behind the name. Just as the building on Cedar Springs Road, on the northern edge of downtown Dallas, had once been a showplace, so Austin “Mac” MacIntosh had once been mentioned in the same breath as Racehorse Haynes, Phil Burleson, and Percy Foreman as one of the state’s top criminal defense lawyers. But just as time and new construction nearby cast the building in a dimmer light in recent years, so, too, had Mac’s star also faded. Now in his early seventies, Mac still presented flashes of his brilliant past, but with his short stature, white hair, and stooped posture, his appearance no longer inspired the same confidence it once had.
