THIRTY-EIGHT Monday mornings were notoriously hectic at the Dallas County courthouses, both civil and criminal. Docket calls for trial matters and jury selections for the number one case on each court’s docket were typically relegated to Monday mornings, and this Monday was no exception. Kelly had gotten to the criminal courts building early, after a lonely weekend working at the office, then she spent the better part of ninety minutes bouncing around three courts where she had cases pending, doing the typical small office practitioner’s juggling of cases and trying to meet all her settings.
