FIFTY Monday morning – show time! The trial date arrived, and Kelly and Mac spent most of the final weekend taking care of last-minute preparations, then paid a final visit to Frank at the jail. They wouldn’t see him again until the trial started, when he would be ushered into the courtroom by sheriff’s deputies, and where he would continually be referred to as “the Defendant,” at least by the prosecution, and not “Mr. Oliver.” They were sure that Frank would consider that the ultimate insult to his dignity. But, after having killed a man in jail and thrown his wife down a flight of stairs, regardless of what he did or didn’t do to Ken Hargrove, he had to get used to insults to his dignity.
