Throughout the entire school day, my mind has been elsewhere. On multiple occasions, the teachers have even had to call out to me. This really isn’t like me at all. I enjoy school. Ughhh! It is those damned blue eyes! They haunt me now.
I am now walking towards Caleb’s car since classes are over. Out of nowhere, I felt someone’s arms wrap around my waist from behind. The instant fear of being grabbed, left me screaming and fighting to get out of their arms, but at the same time, it felt like this is where I am meant to belong. I managed to squirm out of their arms.
“Um, who are you?” I questioned this guy who was standing in front of me. He was tall, possibly around 6 foot 5, muscular, with dark brown hair down to his collar bones. The only disappointment for me is that he is wearing sunglasses.
“Oh, I am sorry. Let me introduce myself. My name is Eryn, and you, Gwen, are my Queen and….” He started saying before he was rudely cut off by the most hated and annoying male in my life.
“Gwennie, you beautiful soul. I missed you.” Bailey teased as he wrapped his arm around me.
“f**k off, Bailey. Will you just back off already?” I hissed at him. While I was focused on the stupid annoyance, I started to hear a low growl, but I couldn’t tell where it was coming from. All I knew was that it was close by.
“Now, now, don’t be like that! You know you love me.” He coaxed.
“I believe the lady asked you to f**k off. Do so before I help you make sense of what she said.” Eryn bellowed. I looked at him as soon as he started talking. There is something about his aura. Its familiar!
“And who are you, pretty boy?” Bailey laughed. “She is mine and she will learn to accept it eventually.”
With this, Eryn’s face started to get red in anger. I swear, any minute now, I will see steam pouring from his ears. However, in the blink of an eye, Bailey was on the ground. Eryn had taken one swing at Bailey and dropped him. Honestly, it serves the prick right,
“Eryn?” I whisper.
Eryn looks at me, and visibly relaxes.
“Are you okay? You didn’t need to do that. I have been dealing with his crap for so long, I just got used to it. But I really appreciate it” I, continued.
He grabbed my hands and looked at what I presumed to be my eyes.
“I will always protect you.” He calmly said, and with that, he walked away.
I stood there, stunned. I don’t think I moved for a little while. It wasn’t until Caleb walked up to me and got my attention.
“Hey loser, you coming?” he laughed.
I looked at him. If looks could kill, he would have been dead a million times over.
Once we are in the car, I can’t help but think about Eryn. Why did he feel so familiar? His aura was familiar. I just don’t understand.
We pulled up home and there was an unfamiliar car in the driveway.
“Caleb, who is here?” I asked him. All he does is shrug his shoulders as he turns off the car and gets out.
I grabbed my bag and ran inside. I don’t know why, but I feel like something is wrong. I got to the front door and hesitantly opened it.
“Mum, are you okay?” I yelled out, not knowing where she was.
“Yeah babe,” I heard her response from the kitchen. I made my way there. I see mum sitting at the kitchen table with an elderly man and woman.
“Mum?” I worryingly asked.
The elderly gentleman stands up and just as he is about to speak, Caleb walks in and gives the old man a hug and kisses the woman on the cheek.
“Hey Gramps, hey Grammy”. Caleb exclaims.
WHAT?! That’s Dad’s parents! I just turned around and went up to my room. Stuff this! Mum could have forewarned me that this was happening. She knows I get defensive about not being included in things that include me.
After a while of lying on my bed, I heard a soft knock at the door, and it slowly started to open before I could say anything.
“Hello Gwen. I’m sorry for intruding on your personal space but I would like to have a chat with you about these dreams you are having”, my Grandpa announced. Great!
“Yeah, I guess so.” I replied.
Grandpa has a seat on my bed with me and I sat up so I could see him properly. Grandpa asked about what had been happening in my dreams and I told him everything, right down to the smallest detail, like the scents of the forest, the way the beast/person’s eyes made me feel.
“Oh wow, that would drive anyone crazy. There is an explanation for everything though, my dear, and that is your heritage. You are not a full-blooded human.” Grandpa blurted out.
“What?” I half yelled in shock. “What do you mean that I am not a full-blooded human?”
Once I asked that question, Grandpa went into detail about everything. How my dad and the rest of his side of the family are werewolves. I laughed when Grandpa said this, but the seriousness in his face shut me up.
“I understand that this is a whole crazy load of information to get, Princess, but it is true. You are half werewolf, but not only are you half werewolf, you literally are a Princess. You come from a long line of royal werewolves. Your father is the new King of the Werewolves, and you are their Princess, just as Caleb is their Prince.” Grandpa continued to say.
“Grandpa, why would you keep this from us? I mean, what does this mean for me?” I cried to him.
“I am so sorry that we kept this from you, but we did it out of pure safety for you and your brother. There are a lot of people out there who would love to destroy our family blood line and to take over the throne. You have no idea how much it has hurt your father, your grandma and me. Even your mum has been hurting a lot over this.
When your mum rang me after you told her about your dreams, I knew that your powers were starting to awaken. Your dreams are your way of seeing, what we call, a mate. This mate is your other half to make you whole. Once you meet him, you will know who he is. You will know this as soon as you look into his eyes. First, you will smell his scent. His scent is what will drive you crazy, but it will be your safety net. His scent will be one of a kind and only you will smell it.
Your mum told me that in your dreams, you saw a massive black wolf, with ice-blue-coloured eyes?” All I could do was nod at him.
“Hmmmm. I don’t believe I know of any members within the community here that have such intense eyes, but I will keep my eyes peeled open, if you are worried?” He mentioned.
“Thank you, Grandpa. I met this boy today at school. His name is Eryn. He grabbed me at the end of school, introduced himself to me and called me his queen and was about to say something else before we were interrupted by some other guy I go to class with. I thought I heard a growl but couldn’t figure out where it was coming from. It was weird. Out of nowhere though, Eryn hit this other guy and when I started to talk to Eryn, he visibly calmed down.” I blurted out to him.
“Princess, I think this Eryn is your supposed mate. Did you look into his eyes?” Grandpa suggested.
“Umm, unfortunately not. He was wearing sunglasses,” I replied.
All Grandpa could do was nod slowly. We sat there and spoke about more of this werewolf stuff and by the time we finished, it was getting quite late.
