Chains in the shadows
No one in the mafia business hasn't heard of the “Robbys”. Rufus Roberto happens to be my father, a dreadful, merciless man; his eyes were always cold, emotionless, and blank. I guess I got some of my traits from him. Anthony, my younger brother, he is even more dreadful than my father but also kindhearted like my mother. Less talk, more action is how he gets the job done. I admire his charisma so much.
I arrived at our family house, a multimillion-dollar mansion. The mansion was all concrete and had tall glass windows that gave a view of the mountains, its towers piercing the sky. Ohhh, how I love coming home to this warm ambiance.
Marilyn welcomed me at the entrance, she is my brother’s wife. She is too good for him, so calm, obedient, and loving. ”Your beauty almost blinded me. I love your floral dress,” I said.
”Thank you so much, my mother made it for me,” she replied with a smile so warm it could melt a stone.
“Antonio, my boy, come give your father a hug,” he said out loud. I burst into laughter, looking at him upstairs with his customized robe he wears for dinner. I ran upstairs to give him a tight hug, and we both came down for dinner afterwards.
The maids served dinner, they had cooked my favorite food, grilled chicken with mashed potatoes and vegetables.
It was time to discuss what had brought me home in a long time, “Dad, We have a problem. Andrew has f****d us all over now we have to deal with the cartel, you and I both know they don't joke around when it comes to their goods” my father's face went pale instantly, he stopped eating. ”Let's talk in my office,” he said.
”How could you let this happen!?” he slammed his hands on his desk looking at my brother with terror in his eyes. Anthony and Andrew are partners because Dad doesn't trust Andrew to handle things alone.
“I…I wasn't aware of this,” my brother stuttered as he responded.
“Find a way to fix your mistake, you were supposed to keep an eye on every deal he makes and who he makes it with!” he yelled.
He continued pacing the room, he was restless. “You boys will be the end of me”, he said as he pulled his leather chair to sit down, he grabbed his head with both hands, and all I could do was stand there in silence. “Out of my office, you two, I need to think”,he yelled with frustration in his voice.
Sofia POV:
I woke up to the bright light coming in from my window, ” It's morning already,” I groaned, dragging my duvet to cover my face from the sunrise. I got out of bed and headed to the bathroom, had my bath, and got dressed. I headed to the kitchen to make breakfast.
Summer break is here, so I don't have to go to school. I made banana pancakes, “Dad, won't you eat before heading out”? I asked. No response, I knocked on his door and found out he had left for work.
I decided to take lunch to him at his workplace. I packed the food, put on my heels, and grabbed my earbuds, listening to music elevates my mood.
“Enormous,” I said as I got down from the cab. This is my first time coming to my father’s workplace, The building is a mansion, well designed with proper detailing to the surroundings.
I was stopped by a man holding a gun, who was dressed like an official. He wore a black suit, black glasses, and I could see a surveillance earpiece in his ears.
”I'm looking for Mr David Lance”. I stated calmly.
“The driver? He drove the boss out, come back later,” he replied in a harsh tone.
“Let me wait for him at least, I'm only here to drop off his lunch,” I pleaded. The security was adamant, causing a scene is one of my biggest specialties. But I didn't want to get my father in any trouble, so I chose to remain calm.
“Please let me wait for him; it won't take long,” I pleaded repeatedly. A man came out from the balcony and yelled, “What's all this fuss about?”
Antonio POV:
I saw a lady dressed in a pink dress and short heels, I couldn't see her face properly, so I told the security to let her in.
”You again? Who sent you? Why do you keep showing up where I am?” I asked in a coarse tone.
”I'm here to drop off lunch for my father, no need to be dramatic,” she responded.
“You haven't seen dramatic, Carlos, search for any weapons or listening devices,” I told my security.
”Fine! Have at it,” she yelled, spreading her hands apart for the search.
“Let her sit at the guest house after you search her properly,” I told my security before heading inside.
Sofia POV:
“Such an asshole” I muttered to myself.
The guest house was unusual; it was spacious, had modern furnishing, and soft lighting, which made it cozy.
I sat down a bit, but I got bored. I decided to take a walk around the compound. I stumbled upon an abandoned house, I took a peek, and saw a man tied up in chains, he also had blood all over.
I rushed inside. “Are you okay?” I asked, worriedly. He was not breathing, he had no pulse. I didn't know what to do.
”Hello, hello….can you hear me? Please say something”I said, slapping his wrist for a pulse. It was faint, I tried to get him down for CPR(cardiopulmonary resuscitation).
I felt a gun on my head, and I froze, my heart started pounding so fast, I could hear each beat. I started hyperventilating. I couldn't decide whether to say something, turn around, or keep mute.
“How did you get here?” A man yelled at me from behind, making me slightly flinch.
