They reached the New Mexico facility three hours later. It was buried in the desert. Just a concrete entrance built into a hillside. Looked abandoned. Forgotten.
Maya scanned her palm on the biometric reader. The door opened. Lights flickered on inside.
"Welcome back, Dr. Chen," a computer voice said. "Facility status: operational. Last access: six months ago."
They descended stairs. Down fifty feet. Into a bunker that looked like it belonged in a science fiction movie. Clean. Modern. Fully equipped.
Medical bay. Armory. Living quarters. Computer systems. Everything they needed.
