Wren awoke to see dim golden light seep through the branches of the trees, warmly kissing his skin. Blair laid beside him against the tree, eyes closed.
"Blair?"
Still, as stone without even a flicker of her eyelids, Wren questioned if vampires slept since he only knew the human version of vampires.
"I'll be back."
He wrapped his jacket over her shoulders before going towards the most decorated tent in the centre of the field, poking his head inside and calling out.
"Clint? Alrick?"
A cheery voice answered back with the following clash of broken glass.
"Wren dear! How can I help you?"
The woman came into view, her grey hair buried under her cap with strands sticking out as if electrified.
"Good afternoon Miss Applecorn, I was wondering if I could see the section in the book about vampires?"
Applecorn hesitated, her hand holding her chin as she stared unnaturally serious. Wren considered what h was doing was possibly not needed, after all, he could just ask Blair.
But he figured it was better if he did the research himself if he showed his knowledge maybe she would be impressed. Or disrespected.
"Of course you can! Just remember the rules!"
"Thank you Miss Applecorn."
Wren watched for a few seconds as she hummed approvingly and began dusting off the tent, not even paying attention as he walked to the luminous azure light in the centre of the tent. Within the orb of light, there was the grimoire of their Warren with an ocean cover, the words constantly shifting to hide the true identity of the book.
He whispered the words to unlock the book while drawing a shape in the air, watching it open and waiting for his request.
"Reveal to me the knowledge of Vampires."
The pages flipped through rashly before stopping at page 113, an illustration of a vampire under the title. Beginning to read the inscription;
'Vampires according to our knowledge are fierce, volatile creatures of shadows and darkness. Their instinct to kill overwhelms anything else, they are hard to get close to and even harder to make a deal. Do not approach unless absolutely necessary!'
Wren rolled his eyes at the beginning, he only wanted to know as much as possible to show he was interested in Blair.
'Vampires are weakest against fire, sunlight and being starved. They do have a way to survive sunlight thought we have not determined how they have incredible heightened senses and physique. As a pack, they are near-impossible to beat, do not approach alone.
On a rare occasion, a Vampire may access a unique ability however the reason for this is unknown, there are many variations of Vampires that—'
The pages beyond was unreadable at that point until the chapter about fairies, his brow furrowed.
"Excuse me, Miss Applecorn?"
"Yes?"
"What happened to the pages?"
She glanced over to the grimoire barely changing her smile, giving him a little faith.
"Unfortunately almost the rest of the book was damaged by a reckless witch 30 years ago if you need more information you could ask Alrick...or your fiance."
Wren felt his feet crinkle as if spiders crawled over them at the thought, glancing back at the entrance wondering if Alrick knew anything about Blair. He hoped that the hunting party hadn't left already but since it was noon already it was most probable that it was too late, Alrick was always the head hunter.
Yet, he knew once seeing the twins by the campfire that it was too late. If they were here that meant the night hunting party had already left, luckily it would only be 3 hours at most they were gone.
Wren could spend that time getting to know Blair on a deeper level than just about her being a vampire, he began walking back to the tree they slept at deep in thought. Besides the obvious fact that she was a vampire, he knew zero about her.
But when he glimpsed at the tree she was gone, along with his jacket.
"Blair?"
Groaning out as it seemed like all he was doing today was trying to find people, or informtion.
"Will this day ever end?"
Wren turned back to the twins at the camp, the bright autumn leaves blending with their hair.
"Hey Root, Branch! Do you know where Blair is?"
The air was completely silent as he added,
"Actually, where is everyone?"
Root glanced up from the sock he was sewing and pointed a finger towards the waterfall.
"Miss Fauna is teaching the girls their magic."
Branch stopped embroidering one of the girls' dresses,
"The Vampire? She followed Miss fauna."
Wren glanced back at the twins who resumed working, muttering under his breath.
"Her name is Blair."
Part of him began questioning why Blair would follow the girls to their lesson, the image of the illustrated Vampire from the grimoire pestering the edges of his mind. Pushing through thick brush and around trees away from the camp until finding Fauna who was smirking and the group of girls at the base of the waterfall, recognising the inky hair tied up into a ponytail.
"Blair?"
Her hand was outstretched to the stream connected to the waterfall, eyes closed and unmoving. A chuckle overlapping the crashing of water from Fauna,
"What are you thinking Vampire? You aren't one of us!"
The sound of her voice silenced as a light began to envelop around Blair, a similar light to the girls. Wren's eyes widened as pebblets of the stream began to rise towards her hand, growing and changing form.
"I-Impossible..."
