CHAPTER 002 - THE OTHER MRS. VEXLEY

SABRINA'S POV Silas’ expression changed in an instant, “Sabrina, stop this madness!” He hissed, his voice trembling slightly as he pushed me away. I landed on the tiled floor with a hard thud, pain shooting right through my whole body. For a few seconds, all I could hear was my own ragged breathing. Silas ran a hand through his hair, casually fixing his collar. I was still on the floor when the door suddenly pushed open. “Honey, what's taking you so long?” A soft, calm voice asked. Honey? It must be her. The owner of the red lipstick. The mistress. The reason my husband abandoned our child on his birthday. “Oh my goodness. What happened here? Why is she on the floor?” The lady gasped, rushing to me. Her arms wrapped around me until I was up on my feet. I stared at her for a moment, contemplating. Should I thank her for helping me up just now? Or should I smack her hard across the face for turning my whole world upside down in the worst possible way? My hands were already clenching into tight fists, I really wanted to slap her. No… I wanted to punch her now. But this lady, who was more polished… more beautiful than I had ever been in my entire life, held my face and smiled warmly at me. “Silas told me about what happened to your son. I'm so sorry for your loss.” It took a whole lot to control the scream that almost tore out of me. Calmly, I brushed her hands off my face, and turned to Silas. He looked unfazed, like he was in full control of the situation. He even met my gaze steadily, as if he was daring me. He wasn't that man anymore. The man who had once held me warmly, and promised to never break my heart, but love and protect me for the rest of my life. I hadn't even said anything when the lady suddenly gasped loudly again. “Hold on…” “Aren't you Sabrina? You were the one who won best employee at my restaurant's award ceremony last month, right?” She giggled excitedly. This time, I didn't hold back the dry laugh that tore from my throat. How awesome could this get, huh? Not only was she my husband's mistress, she was also my boss at work. I just kept laughing so hard that it hurt… so hard that I could almost taste blood. “Let's get out of here now, Ava. I'm sure she will be fine on her own.” The words rushed out of Silas’ mouth as he dragged her to the door. The lady, Ava, shook her head, her eyes fixed on me. “But she is crying. She is obviously in pain. We can't just leave like this. We have to do something for her, honey.” I touched my cheek, and only then did I realize that I had actually been crying… while laughing. How pathetic! I wiped the tears roughly across my face. “Do something?” I tried to catch my breath. “Do you even know what's happening right now?” Ava stepped closer, her face full of concern. But I couldn't tell if it was real or just an act. “I don't. So talk to me, Sabrina. I will help you however I can.” She still didn't get it. Slowly, I pointed at Silas, who glared daringly at me. “This is my husband, Silas Vexley.” Ava's brows snapped together. Her gaze shifted to Silas, then back at me, but she didn't say anything. I continued, even though it was taking everything in me to keep myself going, to keep standing. I pointed to myself. “I'm Sabrina Vexley, his wife. We have been married six years now.” Ava still didn't say anything, her eyes didn't leave mine either. Her reaction was way too collected for a mistress, just like her appearance. I swallowed as I pointed to Christian. His little body had been covered with the hospital's white silk cloth. “And under there… is my four years old son, Christian Vexley.” I paused, swallowing another lump that had formed in my throat. “Today was his birthday. He was supposed to be at the park, having fun, but look…” I kept pointing at him. “He is… he is dead. Only because my husband left him all alone at the park to go cheat on me… with you.” I pointed at her now. There was silence. But only for a few seconds before Ava's loud laugh tore through the thick air. “You didn't tell me she was also mentally ill.” She whispered to Silas. Silas's eyes flickered to me, a sly smile tugging at his lips. His eyes were full of mischief and something else I couldn't name. Ava turned to me then. “I'm really sorry about the death of your son. But I think you are greatly mistaken, Sabrina. I'm Mrs. Vexley. Silas is my husband. We were actually each other's soulmates in high school.” She paused, and smiled at my husband. “We got married five years ago, and we have twin girls now. We are a complete, happy family. Your husband was my husband's good friend, but he is long gone now. I hope you get your senses back soon, because you seem to be a little lost, and out of place.” My eyes hadn't widened the way they just did my whole life. Married? Five years ago? Twins? My chest felt crushed so hard that I couldn't draw a single breath for seconds. The room became a blur around me. I wanted to scream, throw something at them, tear them apart… but the energy wasn't there. I was already barely holding on. Five years ago? That was around when I had been pregnant with Christian. When Silas' company had suffered a great setback, and I had to give up on my life and dreams to help him back up on his feet. Even while growing a life inside of me, I had worked tirelessly at factories, retail shops, restaurants. I had even drained my whole life savings just to support him. Five years. Five whole years of lies. Of pretending to be my husband, of smiling at me, and playing father to my son while building a better life with another woman… Five years! It was like a punch I didn't see coming. I wanted to vomit. I tried to swallow, but the air felt too thick. So, I just stood there, blinking, and speechless. My eyes drifted briefly to them, and I hated the way they were looking at me. Like they pitied me. Like they had won. I inhaled sharply, forcing myself to breathe, to stand straight, to look right into their eyes. Falling apart wasn't an option. Not in front of them. Not now. But before I could say anything, the door pushed open, and Silas’ parents rushed in, their faces a mask of sheer shock. They stood quietly, staring at Christian until my father-in-law, Edward, stormed to me. “What did you do my grandson? You orphaned parasite! How could you have let such a tragedy befall my own grandson?” He thundered. Of course, they would blame me first before anything else, like always. “I was at work,” I sighed. “Work?” My mother-in-law, Agatha, hissed loudly. “Your son died because you were too busy chasing some stupid tips and paychecks! You were never a real mother, Sabrina! You deserve every bit of the pain you’re feeling right now!” Something inside me snapped.
