“There are no settlements this far inland,” Ekwansi said. “And it would take a large settlement to emit that much light.”
“Whatever ‘Falcon’s Egg’ is, it isn’t concerned about being seen from orbit,” Lorn said, staring at the glowing clouds. “That’s…worrisome.” He glanced at Ekwansi. “Still want to take a look?”
“More than ever,” Ekwansi said. “Margaret’s Land is my home, and the people who live here are my friends and neighbours. If there is something across that ridge that poses a threat to the settlements, I need to know…and warn them.”
Lorn stared at him, surprised by how sincere he sounded. But he didn’t question it: truth was, he’d be glad to have someone at his side. “So let’s go find out what’s waiting for us, shall we?”
“By all means.”
