Claire’s eyes lit up the second she heard his voice—her savior, right on cue. The fear drained from her face, replaced by a defiant glare aimed straight at me, her lips moving silently: You’re done. Then, she flipped the switch, tears streaming as she wailed, “Alpha Sean… save me… I’m so scared…” But I wasn’t letting her play the victim. As he started forward, I signaled to the bodyguard, who slammed the basement door shut. The clang echoed just as her sobs hit their peak. I met her eyes through the small window, ice in mine.
