Chapter 19

"Thanks," I said, not bothering to refuse. I stepped to the side, waiting for him to finish up. But before I knew it, a rough hand clamped down on my wrist, yanking me away from Alpha Alexander. I crashed into a familiar, muscular chest, the scent of Alpha Sean's cologne overwhelming my senses. His hand dug into my waist, pinning me against him as he glared at Alpha Alexander. "My mate. I'll take her. Don't trouble yourself," he said, his voice as cold as ice. Before I could even protest, he started dragging me towards the exit. Alpha Alexander's hand twitch, as if he wanted to stop us, but then he let it fall back to his side. He knew our history, knew about the bond that had once tied Alpha Sean and me together, and the love that had been the talk of the pack. A few steps outside, my anger flared. I clawed at Alpha Sean's grip, hissing, "Alpha Sean, who the hell do you think is your mate? Let go!" His face darkened, his eyes turning into a stormy abyss. His grip on my waist tightened, feeling like an iron vice. I winced in pain, digging my nails into his hand, but it was useless. It was like trying to break free from a steel trap. No matter how much I scratched or pulled, he wouldn't let go, hauling me towards the door with brute force. I sneered at him, my voice dripping with venom. "Alpha Sean, the great alpha of the Jovia pack, making a spectacle of himself by clinging to his ex in front of everyone. Don't you have an ounce of shame? Claire, who'd followed after realizing Alpha Sean had left the restroom, caught up just in time to see him holding Olivia. She stepped forward. "Alpha Sean…" He didn't even glance her way, ignoring her completely. As Alpha Sean dragged me along, his grip like a vice, I could feel Claire's eyes burning into my back. The storm of rage and jealousy brewing within her. Suddenly, I heard a dramatic gasp, followed by a weak call, "Alpha Sean…" His whole body froze, and his eyes snap away from me. I turned my head to see Claire swaying, her arms reaching out as if she was about to collapse. Her face was deathly pale, and in the next moment, she started to crumple to the floor. In an instant, Alpha Sean released me. I stumbled, caught off - balance from all my struggling. As he rushed to catch Claire, I crashed into a nearby vase. The sound of shattering porcelain filled the air, and I felt a sharp pain as my hand landed on the shards. "Ah!" I cried out, the pain shooting through my arm like a bolt of lightning. I stared at my bloodied hand in horror, my voice trembling. "My hand…" "Olivia!" Alpha Alexander's voice, filled with worry. He lunge forward, but everything had happened too quickly. He couldn't reach me in time. I sat there, feeling as pale as a ghost. Panic welled up inside me. I'd promised Ellie that I'd become a famous designer. My hand couldn't be ruined. It just couldn't. "Don't panic. It'll be okay. I'm getting you to a healer," Alpha Alexander said, rushing to my side. My legs felt like they were made of jelly, and I was too dazed to stand. Without a word, he scooped me up and carried me to his car. At the Healer's, I waited with bated breath as the healer examined my hand. "Relax," the healer finally said. "No nerve damage. You'll be fine. Stay here tonight for observation, and you can leave in the morning." A wave of relief washed over me, and I felt my tense muscles finally loosen. Alpha Alexander took care of all the paperwork for my stay. I thanked him in a soft voice, still shaken. "Rest up," he said, dimming the lights before leaving. The click of the door closing echoed in the room. The night seemed endless. Ever since Ellie's passing, I'd been having trouble sleeping, often relying on herbs to help me. Tonight, without them, I tossed and turned, haunted by nightmares. In the middle of the night, I felt a presence by my bedside. It was familiar, like a shadow from my past. I was too groggy to tell if it was real or just part of my tormented dreams. The next morning, with my hand bandaged, I went through the discharge process on my own. Just as I was about to leave, I heard Claire's voice. "Olivia!" She reached for my injured hand, but I quickly dodged. I tried to walk past her, ignoring her, but she blocked my path. "Olivia, what's the point of playing both sides? You said you and Alpha Sean were unbound, so what are you doing now?" She stepped closer, her voice sharp and mocking. "Give it up. Alpha Sean's heart belongs to me. No matter how many tricks you pull, he'll never love you. To him, you're just a way to scratch an itch." Something inside me snapped. Before I could think, my hand flew up and slapped her across the face.
