Chapter 18

Is he messing with me? I wondered, my mind racing. All those rumors about him being a stand-up wolf—maybe he was just another smooth talker playing games. "You really don't remember me?" Alpha Alexander's voice, as deep and magnetic as a slow - moving river, shattered the silence. "Huh?" I blinked, completely thrown off. What on earth was he talking about? Had we crossed paths before? "My pen. When are you planning to give it back?" His tone was light, but there was an underlying edge to his words. "What?" I was utterly lost, my thoughts in a jumble. I searched my memory, but nothing came up. Seeing my genuine bewilderment, the spark in his eyes seemed to fade. Back then, I'd been so blinded by Alpha Sean that I'd probably overlooked everyone else. "Nothing. Must've mistaken you for someone else," he said smoothly, dropping the subject. I sat up straighter, feeling a bit awkward. Thankfully, he quickly changed the topic. "Olivia, I want to buy your design. One million. Does that work for you?" "One million?" I stared at him, my jaw dropping. I couldn't believe my ears. "Too low? We can negotiate—" "No, no, no!" I waved my hands frantically. "That's… that's more than enough, Alpha Alexander. It's way too generous." "Your piece should have taken first. It's worth every cent. Claire's work? It doesn't even compare," he said, his voice calm but with a clear disdain for Claire's design. I caught his subtle dig, and a warmth spread through me. It felt good to know someone was on my side. He slid a check across the table, and after a moment's hesitation, I picked it up. A genuine, grateful smile spread across my face. "Alpha Alexander, thank you for believing in my work." I carefully tucked the check into my bag, my heart pounding. With this money, Ellie could finally have the peaceful resting place she deserved. My eyes stung with tears, and I mumbled an excuse, rushing to the restroom to compose myself. As I washed my hands at the sink, I was suddenly yanked backward. A strong arm wrapped around my waist, pulling me into the men's restroom next door. "Alpha Sean, are you out of your mind? Let me go!" I felt a mix of shame and rage flood through me. I'd been so caught off guard that I hadn't even noticed the "closed" sign on the door. The stall door clicked shut, and Alpha Sean roughly shoved me against it. "Who said you could have dinner with Alpha Alexander?" His hot breath tickled my ear, his voice low and menacing. "Alpha Sean, we're done. Our bond is broken. I don't answer to you anymore. You have no say in my life!" My heart was pounding, but I met his gaze defiantly. "Broken? Did I agree to that? You think you can just move on to another wolf? You're not getting rid of me that easily," he growled, his eyes burning with a possessive fire. I stared back at him, my anger fueling my courage. I knew his feelings for me were all about control, not love. He didn't want to let go because he wanted to be the one in charge. I scoffed internally. "As far as I'm concerned, you're already out of my life—" Before I could finish, he grabbed my jaw and crashed his lips onto mine. I glared at him, keeping my mouth tightly shut. But he bit down on my lower lip hard, and when I gasped in pain, he deepened the kiss. My eyes burned with fury, and when he paused for air, I bit him back, tasting blood in my mouth. Instead of stopping, his eyes flared crimson, and he kissed me even more fiercely. When he finally pulled away, I was gasping for air, my legs weak. I would have collapsed if his arm hadn't caught me. He looked down at me, and I could see the hunger in his eyes. "Be good," he murmured, his voice rough. I stared at the ground, my heart cold. I leaned against the door, trying to steady my breathing. And then, in a sudden burst of anger, I drove my knee into his shin as hard as I could. He hissed in pain, stumbling backward. I took my chance and shoved him hard, sending him crashing onto the toilet seat. I flung the stall door open and ran out, my heart still pounding in my chest. I could feel Alpha Sean's eyes on me as I fled, his gaze burning into my back like a branding iron. When I dared a quick glance over my shoulder, I saw him emerge from the stall, his eyes locked on my retreating figure. The look in his eyes was pure predator, a wolf sizing me up as his next meal,. Not far away, hidden behind a cluster of plants, I caught a glimpse of Claire. Her fists were clenched so tightly that her knuckles had turned bone - white. She'd always believed Alpha Sean was hers, that his devotion was solely hers to command. And yet, no matter how hard she tried, he'd never looked at her the way he looked at me. When I finally made it back to the table, the food had been sitting there for a while. Alpha Alexander hadn't touched his plate, patiently waiting for me. "Sorry about that, Alpha Alexander," I said, my voice laced with apology and a hint of embarrassment. "No worries," he replied, his eyes briefly flickering to my swollen lips before quickly looking away. I ducked my head, my ears burning hot with shame. I'd done my best to smooth out my clothes on the way back, but there was no hiding these kiss - bruised lips. Anyone with an ounce of sense could tell exactly what had gone down. Dinner dragged on until nearly ten o'clock. As Alpha Alexander was paying the bill, he turned to me. "I'll drive you home," he offered.
