The Hidden Truth

Kane, Lena and Marcus felt the walls of the enclave settling in around them as they frogged closer to its crisscrossing corridors. The weight of what they had found must have been on every step as well — Dr. Cross was not just experimenting with his mind, she planned to use it to control the undead. Rage and fear mixed like magma sloshing in his chest, but woven through it was a fierce resolve that blazed where the concern had touched him. He had to stop her. Lena was beside him, her face drawn out but determined. There was no time for hesitation. They have decided the best option is to shut down all of the systems in Enclave and then take Dr Cross out by force if necessary her location will not be easy they cannot let more people die at Dr. Cross's hand. This was Marcus, who had become one of the Black Doctor Cross's most loyal supporters! It had been hard for him to do it because he never wanted to turn against her. But, there is no other choice but this one! Zoe's Lab is around the corner Marcus whispered as they made their way to a guarded checkpoint. “Let me handle the guards.” Kane and Lena hung back, waiting for Marcus to clear the air. And nodded to the guards at either end, a move that seemed so practised now. “Came to check on things,” he said casually. Dr Cross muttered, 'Just checking to make certain everything is as it should be.' The unbanished guards bobbled their heads in reply. The exorcist passed the duo, beckoning with a jerk of his head only after he'd moved on past them. They nosed into a tight passageway service tunnel as the air around them gradually chilled, dropping deeper within the enclave. The faucet sounded like a waterfall in the echo chamber of the tunnel. Kane imagined all kinds of horrors that could be awaiting them. Time felt short and he had no idea why. Finally, they made it to a little door with no name. Marcus stopped; he took a deep breath and pushed it open. It was a room filled with monitors and wires that seemed to have been around forever because they had. Zoe's lair Zoe was seated in front of a computer, and the blue light reflected off her pale face. Surprised by their presence, she lifted her gaze and saw them. “Marcus? What’s going on?” Zoe asked, her tone wary. “Zoe, we’ve got a problem,” came Marcus. Dr Cross is been lying to all of us. She's not saving us; she's controlling us like that. Alarm bells rang throughout Zoe, and she automatically reached for an implement beside her desk. “What are you talking about? Dr. Cross is trying to save us and keep the undead at bay. Using my memories…to control them, he said softly with infinite finality. She is moulding me and so will she whoever else comes to her. Well… Zoe hesitated, And her hand just hovered over that thing. “Why would she do that? “… trying to find some antidote, measure how this can be made right.” “ Cure-seeking is not what she likes to do ” Lena added. “She’s looking for power. She is out to reshape the world in her image, and she will do whatever it takes.” Zoe was staring doubtfully back and forth between them. Kane saw it in her eyes: the internal battle. At last, she exhaled shakily and dropped her hand. “What do you need me to do?” Kane felt a wave of relief but also knew they were far from out of the woods. The purpose of this is to take down the security system in that enclave, particularly in the lab. Dr. Cross cannot be allowed to carry out her experiments going forward.” Zoe nodded and went back to her computer. The tapping of keys on the keyboard, and all other sounds in the room drowned out © 1999 Radhika Vohra Kane could feel each second as it inched into an eternity while they waited. At last, Zoe turned to face them, looking all the part pale but resolute. “Systems are down but Dr Cross will know any moment now. “Then we leave now,” Lena finished, a sense of immediacy in her voice. The infiltrators hastily passed through what was now a subverted bastion. They ran into a pair of guards, but the quickness and authority Marcus presented as their Chadrik granted them saved them. The deeper they got, the heavier and thicker the air became like walls were closing in on them. Kane followed, but his heart was racing by the time they reached the lab. They reached the metal door which was reinforced with extra steel, and it stood before them as a final gateway to Dr. Cross. Two guards silently watch without realising their imminent peril. Quiet, Marcus whispered to me. '..', Well just have to take them out one by Kane and Lena advanced simultaneously, closing in on the guards from two directions. In swift movements that bespoke of countless repetitions for each part, they quickly and silently focus the guards without a chance to say I-OH! — not even really any more than OOHixedRealityForStun. Zoe rushed ahead and disengaged the electronic lock on the door. She whispered, her voice strained with focus, “It will almost immediately. Staring at the door, Kane's mind whirred and spun; he knew that just beyond it was where the woman who had made his life a living Hell resided. He could not allow fear or anger to distract him, lest he make an error that would cost them all their lives. The door clicked as it opened and they entered. It was all steel and white in the rest of the enclave Serums of Various Colors Wrapped in Plastic lay all over a Numbered Tray, with decanters filled half-full along the walls, A circular glass container filling what could only be described as an Anti-Bion Liquid emitted. There was a twisted, inhuman figure hovering inside. Indeed, beside the chamber stood Dr. Cross: her back toward them. She didn't turn, her voice as calm and even. Suppose you did show up, Kane. I sort of saw that one coming. I knew you wouldn't isolate yourself forever. Kane stayed close until all I could hear was his voice in my ear, the words harsh but quiet against me yet unmistakably threatening. Turn around. Dr Cross turned to her, and the blank mask of computer jargon she handled in place of grief went opaque as well. “You don’t understand, Kane. I did it because everything I do has the best interests of everyone else at heart. Kane's anger flared at that. "You're experimenting… with people like me." "you're not saving anybody— you are making monsters." Her eyes instinctively darted back to the chamber behind Dr. Cross ''You have no idea what you are talking about. That is, hell was too tame — The undead of the dead are just freshly decomposed soldiers. And like, we have to brace ourselves because it only gets worse. “By turning us into weapons?” And Lena was disgusted in her voice. Dr. Cross’s gaze sharpened. “Control or be deleted. I am saving the scraps of humanity. “Not a chance,” Kane said, coming forward. “you are just trying to own it. This ends now.” Dr. Cross' face went stonehard, and she slid over to a concealed panel on the end of her desk. But Marcus was faster. And he rammed her to the ground, pitting as she fought. Or in the words of Ruby Rhod— “You do not know what you do..!” Dr. Cross shouted. “You’ll doom us all!” Kane's gaze flicked to the chamber as he saw movement from within, a twitch. It was worse to be inside the room, where a terrible low sound filled our ears as darkness began eating cracks in the glass. Kane felt his heart begin to pound in his chest as the seconds ticked by. “Zoe, shut it down!” Kane let out a desperate howl. Zoe frantically typed on the keyboard, her face devoid of emotion. I am, but this system is...it's too much! The glass shattered with an earsplitting sound, and the thing inside twisted and released itself into a misshapen monster made up of tooth-like fishbones and those venomous eyes that seemed to bore into her flesh. It attacked Dr. Cross, tearing into her with a vengeance that made blood splatter all over the spotless lab first. “Run!” ”Lena howled, gripping his arm and yanking him backwards to the door. They ran past the sounds of crashing metal and cries from within the lab. Fear and adrenaline flashed through Kane's mind. But whatever Dr. Cross had assembled was on the loose, and who knew what else it would misbehave? They burst out of the enclave into the cold night air, and Kane turned to give one last look at the burning ruins. The world was already dark but now, in the wake of Dr. Cross's abomination running rampant out there that darkness appeared all-consuming The fight wasn’t over. If anything, it was just the beginning.
