CHAPTER 21(MY BOYFRIEND)

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE They returned from Asher’s family house late in the evening. The air in the city was heavier than the countryside's breeze, but something about the trip still clung to them—warmth, laughter, quiet moments, and shared glances. Jude and Zayn had barely unpacked when they decided to leave. “I might not see a break light,if I don't hurry up with my assignments” Zayn joked, tossing his backpack over one shoulder. Jude gave Rhett a two-finger salute and Asher a wink. “Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do,” Jude added, and Zayn laughed like he already knew that meant trouble. Asher turned to head back into the hostel, but Rhett caught his wrist gently. “Come with me.” Asher blinked. “To where?” “My condo.” There was a moment—one heartbeat of hesitation—and then Asher nodded. Rhett’s condo smelled like cedarwood and something darker, like mystery folded into musk. The place was quiet, walls dressed in charcoal tones and warm lighting. Asher stood just inside the door, slowly taking it in. “Wow,” he whispered. Rhett dropped his keys on a marble counter. “First time here?” Asher looked at him like he’d grown two heads. “Obviously.” Rhett smirked, leaning against the doorway. “You’re acting like I’ve never had people over.” Asher narrowed his eyes. “How many girls or guys have been here?” Rhett’s grin turned wicked. “Hard to count.” Asher sulked instantly. “That’s not funny.” Rhett walked over, slow and deliberate, and cupped Asher’s face. “I’m joking. No one’s ever stayed the night. Or seen the real me in this space. Just you.” That soothed the ache. Just a little. Asher let Rhett pull him closer, their foreheads brushing. “You always this smooth?” Rhett smiled. “Only when I’m terrified.” The kiss that followed started slow. Soft. Like the flutter of pages before the story gets loud. But then it deepened—mouths open, tongues seeking, hands mapping skin. Asher’s fingers found Rhett’s jaw, his collarbone, the soft sound he made when Asher bit his bottom lip—accidental, but Rhett smirked anyway. They broke apart for air, panting. “I want this,” Rhett said, his voice a little shaky. Asher looked up. “What?” “You. Me. Us. No games. Not just a fling.” Rhett hesitated. “Can I… be your boyfriend?” Asher’s breath caught. His lips parted, a flush rising on his cheeks. “You’re serious?” “Terrifyingly, yes.” Asher nodded slowly, then smiled. “Then yes. Yes, you can.” Rhett pulled him back into a kiss that didn’t rush this time. That said everything without speaking. That made it clear this night wasn’t about losing something. It was about beginning something. Their bodies moved together like puzzle pieces. Shirts came off, skin met skin. Each kiss deeper. Each sigh more urgent. Rhett kissed Asher like he had all the time in the world—and Asher held on like he finally believed he deserved this. When Rhett hovered above him, hands exploring every inch with reverence, it wasn’t just s*x. It was a promise. And when they fell asleep in each other’s arms, tangled and silent beneath the sheets, it wasn’t just because of exhaustion. It was peace. It was home.
