CHAPTER FOUR

1068 Words
Eric hadn’t gone to sleep yet. And Melissa wouldn’t sleep until he did. She didn’t want to wake up and find all her things gone. She couldn’t trust him. Because someone should explain what he was doing in her house at night. He was still watching the movie, petting Elsie. She almost screamed at him to stop touching her baby. But it was useless. “You know, when you came over, I thought you were a beggar,” Eric says, smiling without looking at her. “Turns out I wasn’t,” she says, stifling a yawn. “And you were being so rude,” he pouts. “Can you stop pouting?” she asks in disgust. “You look like a five-year-old child when you do that.” “And it is really cute, I know. Many couldn’t resist.” She fakes surprise. “How come I haven’t fallen for you?” She stands up and starts checking her dress. “Do I have some invincible anti-arrogant powder on me?” “I’m not Mr. Arrogant. So you can stop calling me that, Miss Prudent.” She yawned in fake boredom. “Alright, Mr. Arrogant.” “My name is Eric,” he said, giving her his hand for her to shake. She looked from him to his outstretched hand and laughed. “I don’t know which is funny,” Melissa said in between laughs. “Your arrogant face, or the fact that you’re trying to call a truce when we just got started.” Eric bit the insides of his cheeks to stop himself from laughing. “Fine then. No truce till one of us gives up.” “Ew,” Melissa said. Getting into a challenge with a total stranger is the last thing she would do. Well, he wasn’t a total stranger. She had met his parents and his cousin. Who else was left to meet? “And anyway, the rain had stopped. You can now head home.” She stood up and went out escorting him out the door. He stood carefully so as not to wake Elisa up. It was quite affectionate of him to do such a noble deed for an animal. But Melissa knew not to trust him. She had come across many others who had done better noble deeds than him. They ended up showing their true characters in the end. Just as she opened the door, he grabbed her wrist and drew her to him. She stopped breathing. His lips were so close to hers, that she could feel his warm breath on her face. He was staring at her lips and then her eyes. “You are the first girl who didn’t jump on me to get my c**k in your tiny p***y,” he said. She almost threw up from the amount of curse words he used in just one sentence. Eric saw her shiver. She wasn’t used to curse words. The perfect bait for some reason. And a first for him. “It’s a good thing, isn’t it?” she asked him back. She could feel her knees buckle and he leaned down further as if he was going to kiss her. He felt it too and held her steady. He tsked. “Why don’t we wait for you to beg me for a kiss first?” “I’m sorry to inform you, Mr. Arrogant. It is never happening.” He smirked again, slipping his hand down her nightgown. Her n*****s made contact with the material of his hoodie. He stared down at her and he smirked again. Without him raising her gown to check, he knew all the things happening to her body. He pressed her ass and stole a kiss on the cheek before leaving. Melissa hurried upstairs to ease her heavy breathing. Eric found himself smiling all the way home. It was 2 am and she had the nerve to send him out of her house. Another first. And he just completed the first phase of his plan. Turns out his car started working again. By the time he got home, Mark was in the living room. Drinking. Eric thought he was seeing things at first. Mark having a violent swig of Sergio’s Smirnoff Ice was not something to see every day. His tie was a mess and so was his hair. Eric wanted to just walk past. But for some reason, he sat on the floor beside his cousin. “Are you back from the club?” Mark slurred. Eric shook his head. “No. I went to see someone.” “Congrats, though.” “For what?” Eric asked. “Your father has finally decided to get rid of me and put you as the CEO of the Revario Empire.” Eric shook his head. He didn’t even have any interest in the family business. He was interested in writing. But once everybody in the family mocked what he was doing, he dropped his hobby. “I don’t even want to be in the business. I was never interested and that’s why-” “You dropped out of school in your sophomore year of studying business,” Mark completed for him. “And you have been working in the company, making decisions since you were fourteen.” “Well, I guess I wasn’t a son enough,” Mark spat in a tone filled with sarcasm. Eric flinched. He knew that his parents never took Mark like a son. Even if his father believed every single thing that came out of Mark’s mouth. His mother was much stronger. And the fact that Mark’s dad never liked Eric’s mom was a bigger excuse. “I’ll go talk to him,” Eric said after taking a swig of the drink in Mark’s hands. “You don’t have to tell him anything. I was just a rat eavesdropping on the whole thing anyway. Eric finally stood up after ruffling his cousin’s hair. Mark might have never liked him. Eric would never know but in a situation like this, he had to stand up for the guy if he couldn’t stand up to Sergio. “Good evening, Sergio,” Eric greeted and walked into the office without asking. He never had to. “I wanted to talk to you about something,” Sergio said with his hands in front of him. “I’m listening.”
