Jove became aware of his personal photographer by chance alone, scavenging papers from trashcans after dawn to k****e fires in his den. He had seen a few mentions of Something Strange in Seattle in the local papers, but it was a news magazine where he saw his picture. It was him, very clearly him, taking flight from the observation deck atop the Space Needle. The bold black headline read Puget Devil … Winged Monster Terrorizes Seattle.
He stuck the rolled-up bundle of loose newspaper under his arm then shook The American Star open, shuffling through the pages until he found himself again, this time a more distant silhouette against a full moon so large and low in the sky it appeared to be floating in the Pacific.
