Vanessa ensures that she’s kept to up her words. I stand beside Van inside the ‘Pulse’ sweat and heat emanating from the room hits me like a tidal wave. In a way I do need this sort of distraction, the week had been hectic and dull. Music, dancing and alcohol was sure to breathe life into mine. “I don’t see any of them Van!” “Let me text him,” Vanessa says over the music. Feeling light taps on my back and I turn to see Bella standing there. “Hey!” “Hello! I just got here,” she says bopping up and down. “Us too,” I reply tapping Vanessa shoulder. She turns and lets out squeals of excitement drawing Bella into a hug. “You look fabulous girl.” Bella smiles and twirls around, the black off shoulder dress accentuating her curves all round. It looks identical to Vanessa red dress that has thin straps, “Thanks Van. I could say the same goes for you. Love the pants Rain.” “Thank you,” the leather pants and white snug sweater crop top with boots were Vanessa choice of outfit for me. Since I was adamant on coming or wearing a skimpy dress with heels. After our class she rushed us to my place to get ready to meet the rest of our group at the ‘Pulse’. “Come on, let’s go,” Sam appears embracing the three of us from behind. He ushers us past the throngs of dancing intoxicated people. I spot some familiar faces from the university. Since bar was closer to the university, it was a hotspot for the campus populous. My mind switches to the atmosphere and I feel myself tune into the setting. “I already ordered a round of shots. A bottle!” “Woo! Let’s get this s**t started!” Van’s yelling hypes up the table. Leon moves around and embraces us in greeting. We stand around the high table and in count of three we all chug down the drink. Sam takes the bottle from the middle of the table refilling the small glasses. The third basket of chips gets wolfed done in a matter of seconds. I’m lucky to have the last remaining piece. The bottle of tequila shot runs out too and we were now switch to drinking beer and various drink. My tolerance level waning I lean against the table for support. My feet killing me from standing too much. What does this place have against chairs, “Stupid bar with no chairs,” I grumble under my breath. “Huh?” Sam grunts besides me as he chugs the beer down. “Let’s go dancing!” I pull Leon standing next to me. That would fool my legs from throbbing. Nodding to my request, we join Bella and Vanessa who were already tearing it down on the dance floor. The two move in sync, laughing and pulling closer to each other. “I’m apologize for my two left feet Leon,” I say wrapping my arms around his neck. “Well I have two right feet. So were even,” he says making me laugh hard. His hands rest of my hips and we continue moving to the upbeat rhythms. Time flies fast as we dance in a circle amongst ourselves, not once did Sam join us. Too engrossed in his phone as usual. Vanessa on the other hand, cracking us with her swank moves. Leon and I pair whenever the tempo changes. Dancing as a couple. An effective move of fending off the unwanted male and female attention. Leon pulls excusing himself to rush to the bathroom, I join my two friend, awaiting my partner. “Hey babe…” a voice invades my eyes as I’m pulled backwards into an embrace. “You look beautiful,” he says turning to face him. “Ugh. What do you want?” I reply straining from his hold. His hands rub against the skin of my back pulling to him, “Dante. What are you doing here?” Dante smirks nodding, his head tips downwards whispers “I got a text from a friend that you were here. Dancing all night with some block. I wanted to see who dares approach you? Where is he?” “None your business. Don’t bother me please.” “I’m not bothering you. I won’t, I swear. I just want to know who you dancing with. Is he good enough to snag your attention? That’s why I’m here…” “Are you stalking me?” I slur letting out a dry laugh pushing Dante’s head away when he starts nibbling on my ear lobe, his hot breathe feeling a furnace blasting over my skin. My eyes gaze into his, “No baby! Why would I? Do I have a reason to,” he whispers cockily angling his lips towards mine. “No you don’t. Because we are not dating Dante,” I reply smiling to match to his gaze. His laugh is rich and he rests his forehead on mine, guiding my body to sway with his. Dante’s hold on me is intimate, and for a while I give in. “Let’s get out of here?” “God no!’ “It’ll be fun… I’ll make it worth your while. Trust me,” “You are bugging the hell out of…” he silences my response with kiss. He pulls me close coercing my lips like before. Angling his head to the side to deepen the kiss. His crotch pokes me a clear indication of how turned on he was and were all this would lead too. The heated moment is disrupted by a figure bumping into us hard. My teeth clank against Dante’s and we crush into the floor. Shouting surrounds us as I try to gain my bearing. The air knocked out of my lungs from the nasty landing and Dante’s entire weight was on top of me doesn’t make it any better. Two bodies had also fallen besides us and I see the two men struggling with each other. The one at the bottom launches a blow at the top one sending him reeling backwards. I’m pulled off the floor my two strong arms, “Hey….hey are you okay? Rain?” Sam’s voice cuts. He holds me steady besides him. Everything comes up and I haul forward belching everything. This goes on for a while, right in front of everyone. Though I think it doesn’t matter as much with fighting fiasco getting all the attention. The pounding on my head is vicious, bordering the feeling of a thousand judges were pounding my brain out with their mallets. “God I feel….I” the words fail me and I slump against Sam. I feel so exhausted and Sam’s firm and warm body feel too comfortable not to lean against. Tuning out all the fracas going around. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ My entire face feels warm so I turn away from the light. The cocoon of warmth draws in the sleep. I rub my nose feeling a staunch smell that has my eyes open in a flash. I look around and pull my hand towards my nose. The scent making me want to throw up all over the bed. As fast as my body allows me I get off the bed racing towards the bathroom. My mouth states off and even after brushing does nothing to remove the bitter taste. A glass of water or juice would do. Walking into the living room I spot Vanessa sprawled on my couch. The clanking of plates in the kitchen indicating the intruders were more. Bella was concentrated on the island, plating the fried sausages. “Morning?” I say walking to open the fridge for some water. They had stayed over though it was unusual to see Van asleep on the couch. She hates it. “Hey. How do you feel?” “Like I’m about to pass out…my heads thumping like a jack hammer.” Bella laughs and lightly rubs my back, “Well…have a seat. You can’t have medicine on an empty stomach,” pulling out a stool I sleep over the cold marble island. The coolness of the surface remedying the ache and heat from my skin. “I’ll go wake up the rest.” It takes a while to hear the dragging feet entering the kitchen. Every one of my friends is accounted for. With two stools left open Leon and Sam hop onto the counter and take a plate each. “You all stayed over?” “Mm-hmm,” Vanessa nods rubbing her eyes, “You puked your guts then passed out and we couldn’t leave you all alone.” “What happened last night?” I sigh. ‘Passed out?’ the sinking feeling in my stomach growing. No matter how hard I try I couldn’t bring myself to remember anything of the previous night. “Rain, you heard one hell of a night,” Sam chortles slapping my back hard, I lean over almost spilling my juice. “And the headache?” I say rubbing the back of my head. My back feeling sore. “That you can attribute to the fall Dante and you had…” “Wait? Fall? Dante was there? How?” I swallow.  “What were we doing?” “You and Dante were dancing and kissing so passionately and freely…” “What! But I was with you guys and Leon!” “When I came back from the Loo you and Dante were a little preoccupied so I went back to the table with Sam…” Vanessa hands rest on mine at the table, “I didn’t think to interrupt. You were so into it…or him until a scuffle…” “Oh… Jesus Christ! What was I thinking!” “A fight broke off and you ended smack in the middle…good thing I pulled you out you could have been pancake on Pulse’s floor.” “Oh god!” “Yeah…not one of my finest nights huh?” I say the throb at the back of my getting worse. I turn to glare at both Van and Bella, “You two why didn’t you stop me?” “You were too hooked up, playing tonsil tennis it’d be rude to interrupt…” Vanessa says causing laughter around the table. “God! Just shut up!” My annoyance level over the roof. As much as it seems amusing it was road I could never get off. Dante had one over me and would never let me leave it down. “Cheer up. We are here for you? Aren’t we?” “Oh you are here? Eating my damn food but not helping me. I should start charging you for that,” I grumble finishing my own plate. Bella slides two pill done to me with a glass of water, “Apart from you Bella. You are helpful. Unlike some ‘friends’” “Quit being spiteful.” “I will as soon as you quit being a s**t friend,” placing my plate on the sink I walk out of the kitchen, “Bella could you please me wake up around 10:30? Please?” “Sure?” Van snickers, “She’s not your maid.” The two hours would be enough to cure the pain in my back. Walking into my room, I fall on the bed, my phone beeps at the bedside table. Thinking it was a text from my group, I find several but the most important one from my brother. I had missed his call.  Another notification pops up, remainder that my days were close. That explains the back and abdominal pains that were starting. My period cramps could be such a bad, so bad I had to lay off for a few days. I drop the phone on the mattress and pull the duvet cover over me. I snuggle closer and fall into the darkness.
