Two years later
I have dated Rosie for two years now and today was our anniversary, I ran to what was now our apartment and hid her gifts better than last year. I heard her unlock the door and I greeted her with a passionate kiss, I took her coat and hung it up. She threw her shoes into the closet and fed our cat, Aristotle. She hugged me and I danced her across the living room.
"How was work?" She asked.
"Murder, Johnny is riding me again." I said, rubbing her shoulders.
"Is he still expecting that report?!" She asked, sighing.
"Yes, but how was your day?" I asked, sitting her down and watching her do her puzzle.
"Janice is being a pain again." She said, humming.
"Again?!" I said, closing my eyes and listening to her hum.
"Yes, but I am not bothered by it." She said, going to cook dinner but I cut her off.
"It is our two year anniversary, so I am cooking." I said, kissing her before she protested.
"Fine, let me get your gifts before I forget where I hid them again." She said, rumaging through our room before she came out with two presents.
"You had them in our room this entire time?!" I said, stirring the meat.
"Yes, remember I am always good at hiding things." She said, hugging my waist.
I twirled her and stirred the meat, I added spices and cooked corn to accompany the ground beef. She inhaled deeply and sighed, I set the plates at the table and we ate. Afterwards it was gifts, so I got mine out of the coat closet and handed them to her when she handed me my gifts. She opened one then I opened one and so on, she tore open the paper and held up the simple chain, with a single rose shaped dimond on it, up.
"Where on Earth did you get this?" She asked, close to putting it back.
"Zales and it was one hundred dollars cheaper than the three hundred it was listed as." I said, putting it around her neck and kissing her nape.
"Alright open yours!" She exclaimed, bouncing on the couch and watching me rip open the neatly wrapped gift.
"A vintage swiss army knife and the original holder, how did you get this?!" I asked, looking at the old knife and case in awe.
"The army store downtown and it was on sale." She said.
"I love it, open your last one." I said, setting the knife and case on the table.
"Alright." She said, ripping the paper and seeing a purple dipped rose with silver edges.
"Do you like it?" I asked, biting my lip and drawing blood.
"It's amazing, I love it." She said, tackling me on the couch in a bear hug.
"I knew you would." I said, the monster getting hungry again.
"Open your last one!" She squealed, watching me open it and widen my eyes.
"How did you get this?!" I said, holding up an old pocket watch.
"Dad said it was his great grandfather's during the war and he wanted you to have it." She said, watching me turn the timepiece over.
" I can't accept this." I said, trying to hand it back.
"Yes you can and will, open it and read the inscription." She said, watching me open it and read.
"The greater man is no one, for every man and woman is equal. Never forget this." I read the inscription.
"It was my great great grandfather's last words before he died." She said, watching me strain.
"Its amazing, I will forever remember it." I said, putting the watch in my pocket.
"You're hungry again." She said, grabbing my hands and the poket knife.
"Yes, I don't want to hurt you." I said, distancing myself.
"You won't. " she said, pricking her neck a bit.
She held my face and when I smelled her blood I had to distance myself, I will burn in hell before I ever try to hurt the love of my life. She held my mouth open and put it on the small wound, I tasted her sweet blood and drank. Her heart was very strong and she held out, I had stalled the monster and that was better than hurting her. She smiled and I grabbed her, kissing her full force on her lips and laying her on her bed. I removed her jewlry and set it on her dresser before I pinned her again, my heart raced at a million miles an hour.
"Why did you do that?!" I nearly screamed at her.
"I'd rather die than see you starve!" She exclaimed.
"I would have left and gotten a sick animal, like I always have." I said, my teeth clenching.
"You could have died!" She said.
"It would have been better than if I hurt you!" I screamed, bursting into tears and burying my head into her chest.
"You would never hurt me." She said, stroking my hair.
"I could have." I murmured.
"You won't. " she said, lifting my head.
"My sweet puzzle girl, I am but a monster." I said.
"You're my beloved monster." She said, kissing me and loosening in my arms.
I watched my sleeping angel and sighed in conent, I was her monster and she is my puzzle girl. I was happy and nothing was going to take it, until my creator stepped in. I woke up and Rosie was gone and a note was left saying that there was an emergency at work, I made breakfast and tapped my plate. I saw a woman right in the apartment with me and I swear she looked familiar, she squealed with glee and I was so confused.
"May I help you miss...?" I trailed, trying to get a name.
"Oh, sorry my name is Vanesza Roberta Sanchez." She said, shaking my hand.
"Torrance and why are you here?" I asked.
" I am here for you silly." She smiled and creeped me out.
"Why?" I said, backing toward my knife.
"You really don't remember?" She asked, puzzled.
"I remember before and after my creation." I said, trying to focus on the erased part of my mind.
"Nothing inbetween about your creator?" She asked, seeing me shake my head.
"No, that is a black void in my mind." I said, grabbing my knife and holding it behind my back.
"Well I am your creator." She said and I grabbed a gold earring from Rosie's dresser, because the creators were not ones for pure gold. I pat myself on my back for getting those 24 karat gold earrings.
"Okay, great to meet you." I said, gripping the earring.
"I broke one of the sacred rules and they erased your memory of me." She said.
"Which rule?" I asked, gripping the earring tight.
"Creators cannot fall in love with their creatons." She said.
"Ah, great catching up and I want you to leave so byeeee!" I said, waving her out.
"I came back for you, we can run away and elope." She said.
"ELOPE?! No way sister?!" I exclaimed, putting my hands up.
"Why not?!" She exclaimed, half way out the door.
"I am already in a serious relationship." I said, pushing her out.
"With that human girl?!" She said, furrowing her eyebrows.
"She and I fell in love the good old fashioned way." I boasted, loving her shocked face.
"I will have you, even if I have to kill her in the process!" She said, making me angry.
"No you wont!" I yelled, stabbing her face with Rosie's earring.
"Gahhhh! You will regret that, now I won't tell you were she is!" She said, pressing her hand to her smoking face (literally smoking).
"Tell me now or I rip out your spine!" I yelled, grabbing her and holding the earring.
"She is taking a little trip to the sidewalk from the Univeral hotel."she said.
"Your going to drop her over twenty stories just so you can get me?!" I yelled, scratching her face again and running as fast as my legs could carry me.
I saw Rosie dangling over the top of the hotel, her eyes were wide with panic and she kicked her legs. My eyes widened and I took the stairs to the top, a man I didn't know was standing there and he was holding the rope that was keeping Rosie from plummeting to her death. Her eyes were watery and I took a few steps before the man threatened to drop her, I backed up and he gripped the rope.
"Please let her go." I begged the man.
"I have to wait for Vanesza to come." He said.
"Fine, but I will hurt both of you if you even try to drop Rosie." I said and saw Vanesza come out of the stairwell.
"Hello Javier, " she was talking to the man holding Rosie up, "How are you?" She asked Javier.
"Fine mistress, we have a guest." He said pointing to me.
"Ah hello darling." Vanesza said to me.
"I'm not your anything, my heart and soul belongs to Rosie!" I yelled, getting in a stance.
"You will love me and when she breaks on the ground, you will have no one but me." She said.
"Please I beg you!" I said, warm tears going down my cheeks.
"Well since you begged." She said sarcastically and made Javier loosen the rope.
I completely lost it and hit Vanesza with the earring I still had, I jumped at Javier and grabbed Rosie. I untied her and pulled the tape off her mouth gently, she just hugged me as tight as possible and I ran my hands through her hair. Vanesza got up and I pushed Rosie out of the way, I punched and kicked Vanesza as hard as I possibly could.
"I gave you life, I gave you my love, I gave you every thing and this is how you repay me?!" Vanesza screeched and I dodged her punches, throwing more punches at her.
"I love Rosie and I will die to save that love!" I yelled back, punching her gut and kicking her side.
Suddenly the Elders, long before Adam and Eve, had come through the door, holding an old book. I had gotten on my knees and bowed my head, the oldest member, Passaic, had grabbed Vanesza from where she was curled in a ball of pain and dragged her over to the others. The look on that woman's face was priceless and in that moment I wish I had my camera to remember it.
"Vanesza you have violated three sacred rules and therefore, must be punished." The elders saidin unison.
"I had not broken another rule since Torrance's creation!" Vanesza said, spitting out blood.
"You have endangered a human, hypnotized a human and saw your creation without permission." Passaic said, showing Vanesza the rule book.
"I have a right to see the man l love!" Vanesza said.
"No, he is your creation and you have violated more rules than what is allowed." The elders said.
"What is her punishment, you honors?" I asked, holding Rosie to my shoulder.
"Death." They said, dragging Vanesza away.
Vanesza's screams could be heard until it was completely silent and Rosie was shivering against my shoulder, I took her home and soothed her to sleep. I read about this shaman in the Andes that could make a mortal person into an immortal and an immortal into a mortal, this man could save me from hurting Rosie in the future. I started packing and kept packing until morning, Rosie woke up and looked at me with her confused look that always made my knees go weak.
"Where are you going in such a rush?" She asked, her voice laced with concern that I was leaving her.
"The Andes, there is a man there that can turn immortals into mortals and that is my only hope." I said, easing her worry.
"That is amazing, so I am coming with you." She said, getting up and getting changed.
"No, this is my journey and I want you to stay here." I said, kissing her bare shoulders.
"But I want to come." She said, pouting a bit and slipping on a tanktop.
"I want you to come, but so you know that I will come back I have a question for you." I said, getting on one knee.
"What is it?" She asked, as I held her hands in mine.
"Will you, Rosetta Marcia Royse, marry me?" I said, pulling out the ring her dad gave me.
"Yes, yes I will marry you!" She squealed, jumping into my arms and knocking both of us to the ground.
"Now you know that I have to come back for you." I said, putting the ring on her left ring finger.
"I'll miss you." She said to me when I was at the door.
"And I you, I love you." I said and kissed her.
"Goodbye." We said in unison, our hands slowly drifting from eachother.
I shut her door and ran to the sidewalk, then to the harbor, then across the ocean, then up to the Andes and Finally into the cave of the shaman. I had a vial of Rosie's blood around my neck as a last resort, but I did not need it when there were thousands of injured goats. I entered the shaman's cave and knelt at the fire, the shaman came in and greeted me with a bow of his head.
"Hello Torrance." He said.
"How did you know my name?" I asked stupidly.
"I know the names of all who wish to see me and you are here for one thing: mortality." He said.
"Yes, so I can live and die with the woman I love." I said.
"All of my miracles come with a price." He said.
"Name it and you will have it." I said, reaching for my bag.
"That vial of blood that hangs around your neck." He said, ponting to the vial and I took it off.
"Sure, why do you need it?" I asked.
"This is the blood of your true love correct?" He asked, opening the vial and holding it over the Fire.
"Correct." I said and watched as the shaman pour the vial into the fire, the fire changed into white and purple and silver flames.
"Her blood is pure and she has the heart of a person who is willing to give her life to save others, that is why and now you shall have what you need." He said and poured what was left in the vial into a wooden cup, mixing alot of other ingredients with it, and handed it to me.
"Here's to us, Rosie." I toasted to her and drank all of the contents, while the shaman was saying some words I didn't understand.
"You are now human and shall die like everyone else." He said.
"How do I know it worked?" I asked.
"Bring in the goat." The shaman said and someone brought in a sick goat, for once in my life I didn't want it.
"It worked, I'm human!" I said, shaking the shaman's hand.
"I give you and your love good luck, may you both live long and happy lives." He said, waving to me as I left.
"Thank you!" I hollered back.
' I'm coming home Rosie.' I thought and got on the first flight home.
It was a long bus ride to our appartment, because I didn't think of leaving the car at the air port when I left. Stupid, stupid, stupid. I arrived late in the evening and saw only Rosie's desk lamp shining through the blinders, I walked up the stairs with a bouquet of roses in my hands and rang the door bell. I decided to diguse my voice and hide my face so she wouldn't know it was me.
"Who is it?" Rosie's voice rang from inside.
"Flower delivery service." I said in a nazzly voice.
"I didn't order anything, you must have the wrong appartment." She said.
"Are you Rosetta Royse?" I asked, hearing her pad over to the door and unlock it.
"Yes I am." She said, letting me in.
"Where should I put these?" I asked.
"I have a vase here, just let me put some water in it." She said, getting the vase and Filling it.
"Nice place you got here ma'am." I said nazzly.
"Why thank you. Who are the flowers from?" She asked, putting the roses in a vase.
"A Mr. Torrance." I said.
"Oh Torrance, you rascal." She said, smelling the roses.
"He also had a message for you too." I said, putting my hand on the hat I was wearing.
"Really? Oh how sweet of him!" She said excitedly.
"He said that he loves you." I said normally and removed my hat, making Rosie's face go into shock.
"You're back and you brought me roses!" She said, leaping into my arms.
"I made a promise didn't I?" I said, kissing her.
"Did you Find the shaman?" She asked, kissing me back.
"Yes, now I will live and die as you do." I said.
"That is amazing and while you were gone I sent invites, booked a nice park for the ceremony, picked out floral arrangements, sent my mother's wedding dress to be cleaned and adjusted, had my father's suit fixed up for you, hired a photographer and DJ, helped pick bridesmaids and flower girl dresses, picked wedding favors and now I need help choosing a date for our ceremony." She said, closing my agape jaw.
"How about on the day you passed out, which should be the fifth tuesday of next month." I said.
"You remembered." She said.
"Of course I would remember the first time I met you and fell in love." I said, holding her chin and kissing her.
We kissed for an hour and a half before we came up for air, Rosie continued to work on her eighteenth puzzle and I watched. I had to get her to bed before she fell asleep and the pieces started to stick to her face, like they did two nights before I left. I held her as she slept and never felt betteras a human, I drifted and smiled in pure bliss. The next morning I awoke a mortal man and made us breakfast, we drove to her parents house to tell them the good news.
"Mom, dad I have some big news that you might want to hear." Rosie said once we were at her parents house and sitting in the couch, holding hands.
"What is it?" Monaca said.
"Torrance and I are engaged!" Rosie said excitedly.
"Thats great honey!" Robert said, hugging both of us and giving me a nod of approval.
"We already have a time, date, location and everything else set up." I said.
"We areso happy for the both of you." Monaca said.
"Thank you Monaca, now I promised Rosie a walk around the neighborhood for a bit and I always keep my promises." I said, leading Rosie outside.
"He always does and he isn't going to start breaking them now." Rosie said, closing the door behind her.
We walked around for a while, stopped at a park and sat on the swings, walked around more and started to head back to her parents' house when the stars came out. Suddenly a man, slightly shorter than me, had stopped us and even if I was mortal I could still whip this jackass.
"Rosetta, where have you been these past few years." The man said to Rosie, making her grimace.
"In my own place and far away from you!" Rosie snarled.
"But I want to get back with you." He said, two seconds away from me killing him.
"Sorry she can't. " I said, two inches away from killing him.
"Who are you?" He asked snidely.
"What are you, the catepillar from Alice in Wonderland?!" I sneered back.
"Rosetta get away from that man, he is obviously delusional." The man said, reaching for Rosie.
"That man happens to be my fiancée." she said, rubbing the ring in his face almost literally.
"But I was supposed to be you fiancée, not this man!" He said.
"Too late bozo." I said, receiving a thumbs up from Rosie.
"Bye!" Rosie said mockingly as we walked off.
"Stay here while I go kick his ass." I said, rolling up my sleeves and trudging over to the man.
"Give him a few extra kicks from me!" She shouted from her spot.
"Hey you!" I said and the man turned right into my fists.
"Ouch." He said, collapsing and I kicked him a bit for Rosie and not softly either.
"Douche." I said and walked over to Rosie.
"Thank you." She said and got into the car.
"Who was that?" I asked while driving, my hands gripping the steering wheel.
"An old ex." She said and my knuckles turned white.
"Oh." I said, focusing on the road.
"He was being too vain for his own good and so I dumped his ass." She said, smirking a bit.
"Glad you did and I kicked him a few extra times." I said.
"I saw that, thank you." She said, making me loosen my grip on the steering wheel.
"I just did not like the fact that the was another man before me." I said, turning into the parking lot for the apartments.
"He barely lasted a day before he started acting like an ass." She said, getting out and unlocking the door.
"What exactly did he do?" I asked, holding the door open for her.
"He started to talk about his future, his life, his everything and not once did he say us or we." She said, kicking her shoes into the closet.
"Well, I'm glad that we are together." I said, hugging her waist.
"Same, you care about me and I care about you." She said, kissing me and working on another puzzle.
"True." I said, watching her.
She completed another puzzle and I put puzzles on my list of things to get her for her birthday, she started another one and it has been laying around for over a year. She scrunched her eyebrows the way I like and I kissed her temple, she stopped her actions and placed a hand on my cheek. I kissed her knuckles and her shoulder, I reached her lips and placed a kiss. I grabbed her and pinned her on the bed, still kissing her. I trailed my way down to her collar bone, kissing and biting her neck on the way. I laid my head and listened to her heart beat, I sighed and looked up at the ocean blue eyes that were hers.
"What?" She asked, running her hand through my hair.
"I love you." I said.
"I love you , too." She said.
"Three weeks until I make you mine for all time." I rhymed.
"I can't wait, night." She said, drifting off to sleep.
"Night, my puzzle girl." I said, brushing her hair off her face and holding her.
Three weeks later it was our wedding and I was messing with my tie, Robert saw how nervous I was and came over. I saw Rosie go into her house a bit ago to get the last touches o her dress, get makeup on and hair done. I was cutting off my circulation in my left hand by squeezing it too tight, Robert patted me gently and Iet go of my hand.
"Its going to be alright." He said.
"I know, I'm just a bit nervous." I said.
"I know the feeling, when Rosetta's mother and I got married I was just as nervous as you are." He said, smiling at Monaca.
"That make me feel a bit better." I said, putting my hands behind my back.
"I better go, I have to walk my baby girl down the aisle soon." He said, walking toward the house.
"Alright, breathe." I said, calming my breath when the organ played.
Rosie was in a lavender wedding dress and her bouquet had roses, lilies, forget me nots and lilacs. Rosie her self had a veil over her lightly make uped face, but I could still see the woman I fell in love with. The priest put his hands out, niether of us are religious, and started the ceremony once Rosie reached the alter.
"Who gives this young woman away to this young man?" The priest asked.
"I do." Robert said, putting Rosie's hand in mine.
"Dearly beloved, we are here to witness the union of two hearts into one. If anyone objects to this union, please speak now." The priest paused. "The couple has their own vows and will read them now." The priest said.
"I, Torrence Sanders Dumont, take you, Rosetta Mayabell Royse, to be my wife. To love, hold and chersih for an eternity." I said, slipping the band on with the other ring.
"I, Rosetta Mayabell Royse, take you, Torrence Sanders Dumont, to be my husband. For every obstacle and every challenge, I want you by my side for an eternity. " she said, slipping my wedding band on.
"Now by the power, vested in me, I now pronounce you man and wife. You may kiss the bride." The priest said.
I tipped Rosie and kissed her passionatly for about a minute before we broke off, we stayed and talked to our parents. Rosie and her dad danced, I danced with Rosie's mom and we danced with eachother. After all the gifts and the feast, it was time for Rosie and I to hop on the cruise liner to the Bahamas. I set our luggage in our honeymoon suite and went out, with Rosie, to wave goodbye to our friends and family. I carried Rosie over the threshold of our suite and took off my shirt, I pulled down the blinds and unzipped her dress. My hands were shaky, but I saw her curve in her back into her hips and into the legs that could have belonged to Aphrodite herself. I kissed from her bare shoulder down to her garter, which I removed with my teeth and kissed my way back up to her shoulders. My hands remained on her bare stomach, because both of us were unsure.
"Are you ready, because if your not then we can wait." She said.
"I was going to say the exact same thing, Mrs. Dumont." I said her new last name.
"Well, I know I want you and I feel ready." She said, turning to me with her arm over her chest.
"I have waited over a thousand years, literally, to be with someone like you and I feel I am ready too." I said, watching her place her other hand on my chest.
"I give myself to you." She and I said at once, kissing after that.
I gently touched her body, because I was not used to my human form, and made her roll my name. I gave myself to her and she gave herself to me, we felt like one body and after we were covered in sweat; we panted into each other. I ran my hand through her now messy hair and traced all my love bites I made on her upper half, I looked at all her marks from her nails and teeth on my body. She still looked beautiful, even when her hair was sticking to part of her sweaty face. I rand my hand up and down her arm to make her get goosebumps, she sighed into my chest before she finally spoke.
"That was incredible, I'm glad I gave that to you and you alone." She said, moving some of my hair from my face.
"Dito." I said, stroking her arm.
"I think everything will be alright from now on." She said.
"I don't think, I know it'll be alright from here." I said.
I was right, because we had a child after our First year of marriage. I came home from a long a*s day at the office and I saw Rosie's purple volks wagon beetle sitting in the driveway, we moved into a house when we found out we were expecting. I unlocked the door and was greeted by our dogs, Galileo and Napoleon, and our cats: Joan, Victoria and Vienna. I saw my one year old daughter, teething, in a corner with a mountain (almost literal) of her stuffed animals and I heard my new wife humming in the kitchen. I headed toward the wo derous smell and humming that came frome my wife. She was looking down at a cutting board and had a pot of soup on the stove, she turned toward the soup and hummed.
"Hi darling, how was work?" She asked, damn that woman has eyes in the back of her head!
"Great and how did you know?" I asked dumbfoundly as I walked toward our daughter.
"How did I know it was you? I know the dogs greet you when you come home." She said, slipping Galileo and Napoleon a piece of meat.
"And hows my little rock star?"I asked my daughter, picking her up and bouncing her.
"Da!" She cooed, smacking my face lightly with her hand.
My life is perfect, how do I know? I told the story. Was it a true tale or just a tale made up by a person? What do you believe?
